Good Driving Roads Near Manchester

I've lived in Manchester city centre for a year now and whenever I want to take my car for a blast (like today) I always get a bit stuck for places to go. I'm originally from Huddersfield close to some nice country roads which are ideal, but it's a bit of a trek sometimes, so I'm wondering if there's some good places closer to home!

Get over to north wales around Bala and Ffestiniog and the Evo triangle they are awesome roads wish I was closer but takes me 1 1/2 hours each way at least you should be only 40 mins or so

You could head to Macclesfield then over to Buxton via the Cat & Fiddle road - bit notorious for accidents but there's 50mph average speed cameras on there now to stop people getting too carried away. Heading Buxton back to Macc the same way gives you a second dose, or peeling off just before the pub down the A54 is another option.
