haha! I am quite happy today, as I take this (the 300th post of my own thread!) I got a call from the wife a few minutes ago, a letter had arrived from the police (dreading it, wondering had I been s

  • Maybe they overestimated the number of actual thefts though, I mean they should realize that the front of a Vauxhall is likely to fall apart by itself.

  • God help you James can't ring them and say your not satisfied with the junk they gave you. Just ring them up and say that the poor bin man is getting confused he couldn't figure out how to get the Va

Not quite my course content :p

Haha, must admit I would love to do that course as a civilian for 2 reasons, 1) when the police stop me for speeding I can say it's alright, I'm ART approved and 2) because I would genuinely love to be able to say I am officially one of the best trained on the roads.

The hopeful but inevitable failure of the gem out of jail free card is one thing but I would be happy driving around paying a lot less on my car insurance lol

To drive with blues on you need Response training.

To drive fast with blues on you need Advanced Response.

That's why you won't see PCSO's and many Specials with blues on even if their car is fitted with them.

I did my Response course in a 2.0 Focus and Advanced in a BMW X3.

Observation, hazard perception and risk assessment are key.

Clive, do you ever see the police force, or at least a 3rd party offering this level of training to Joe public? Of course I would never expect it to be a case of an excuse for speeding, but whilst I think IAM offer an extensive level of training, this type of education to drivers is IMHO a level that you should learn and be approved for. I think it would make the roads a safer place for responding to situations not necessarily where Joe is trained to speed, but more so to react much more safely at speed.

Plus there is the added benefit that when you are caught doing 130 on the motorway, the court may knock about 3 hours of your sentence when they realise your qualified lol, not helping the other t years of the ban lol

Unfortunately AR training is not offered to JP.

IAM training is pitched lower than Response driving (and much cheaper too).

Are you attempting to bribe an Officer of the Law?

Now why would i do that,

Nah he's offering to compensate you for filling some forms in accidentally...

as Jeebs said im only offering compensation, What you do with it is up to you.

Nobody would be daft enough to bribe you, however we're always happy to donate to your retirement fund should you help us with any favours, I call that private contracting.

I think I'd better recuse myself from this conversation.

My dad did the RoSPA course when he was a driving instructor.

Does teach you a lot about reading the road ahead, little things like looking for phone lines and the direction of hedges so you can gauge where the road is going, and obviously a lot more.

I might do one of the advanced driving courses in future, I definitely think that some sort of pass plus at a minimum should be required for new drivers. There is so much that it is not taught before being given your licence and getting in your rust bucket corsa...

Haha, back on track, imagine if the majority of people where trained to that standard, the insurance industry would not be anarchy, corrupt, in affordable, and riddled with claims. I recon insurance would be a lot cheaper and there would be so fewer accidents.

My hatred towards corsa has once again been reiterated. My wife and I had a lovely weekend in a very luxurious hotel. On the way home, one of their ex employees who so happened to be picking things up decided his corsa and he were capable of taking a bad corner at 26mph. Sadly my car was in his way. I type this whilst laying in hospital strapped up and neck and spine immobilised...

Long day...

..

I hate corsa's more and more every single day!

Can't say the pass plus did me any favours over more practice on dual carriageways.

I'm also thinking of doing the Rospa course soon, I even joined their local group about a year ago and went to a few meetings. I was all ready to get assessed and start training when I decided to order the ST, and thought I'd put it off til I have the new car and am used to it, but just kept putting it off because this car makes me want to drive in ways that Rospa might not agree with lol.

I need to get the training started really, everyone I've spoken to says it's well worth it, including my dad who did the IAM course a long time ago. It seems unfair that insurance companies don't usually offer reductions for advanced drivers though. What was the statistic they mention, something like 35% less likely to be involved in an accident? Surely that deserves a reduction in insurance costs, then more people would get the training too.

I thought one of the questions for insurance was whether you have done any advanced training...

In truth doing an IAM course gives you no financial benefit at all.

A Pass Plus course gives you a bit of a saving on your first policy after passing but after that you fall back in line with everyone else.
