Things I Don't Like

I don't like it's now 4am-ish and I've only just finished the paperwork I thought I'd do for a couple of hours, whilst Brandy dried off from her walk in the rain: five hours ago:ohmy:

Haha, beaten me then... I still have a lot more left >.<

Further to my post in the "do like" thread, although the GTX started, it refused to do so again after letting it run for 20 minutes.  It acts like the battery is simply dead and not holding a charge (jumps fine, then won't start on its own power) which is what the previous owner thought the issue was when he sold it to me.

Problem is, that battery was perfectly fine when I fitted it (Bosch S4 out of the Quasar) so I am highly doubtful that is the problem.  Either the battery has a full charge and something is causing it to crank slowly/not at all (seized pulley, or bad starter), or the battery is dead but not because of the battery itself, but rather a charging issue.

It would be easy to find out what the problem was if I had a volt meter, but alas I do not!!

I do not like having to book hotels for family for my at a more expensive rate for my wedding after they have been told waayy in advance (in April) that they should book it at a cheaper rate

I don't like falling/sliding into the river Stour, whilst stretching out to pick blackberries that are just a little bit further than I'd thought:sad:  It also doesn't help, that you can't see where the edge is in the tightly packed shrubbery, one foot forward on what I thought was riverbank, turned out to be a bush above the water:ohmy:  I then, lost my container of around 500 grams of very plump fruit as I went in:ohmy::sad:, I should think it's heading towards Christchurch now:laugh:

I also don't like, later on, near Dudsbury Rings/Fort also blackberrying, also straining to reach a particular clump of large succulent blackberries, tumbling forwards into the adjacent gorse bush face first:sad:

Although, being a spectacle wearer, a face full of prickles is less of a problem: than it would be for the contact lens wearer or the visually able.  I was also able to recover the dropped blackberries and container from that tumble.  Which was something.

I don't like it again had another 54 plate astra up my backside this morning on the bypass - doing 60! Funny thing was though, he sped up around the corner to pass me (I was doing speed limit)and ended up nearly rear ending a Peugeot ! as he was obviously not paying attention to anything in front of him

I also don't like that my ribs still hurt from Mondays accident at work, husband has suggested it might be cracked ribs rather than just bruised ribs

You are more accident prone than me!!  And that takes some doing, trust me.

I love it when they do that, makes them look like complete idiots and (I hope) brings them down a peg or two.  I had two instances today where I came around a blind bend on an NSL road to find another car coming towards me on my side of the road!

The first one was (of course) an Astra this morning whilst in the 405, and the second a Seat this afternoon whilst driving the Focus.  Both got back in just in time, but if I had been going 10MPH faster it could have been a head-on collision in both cases.

Ghana how deep was the river?

I'm not usually so accident prone. It was a first to have two in the same morning though.

The last time I fell into a river whilst fruit picking (elderberries on that occasion, still the Stour but much further upstream) was during the mid 1990's.  The last time I fell into thorny bush would be during sloe gathering, when Brandy was 2, on Corfe Castle common, which would be October 2002.  Falling into a gorse bush was a first time experience, which I don't recommend:laugh: Not that I'd recommend falling into a sloe thicket either

Yes, I did have a few gorse bush "experiences" as a child, none of which were pleasant.

I don't like having one of the worst nights sleep I've had this year.  Plus for the past couple of weeks my dreams have been consistently negative (rather than a mix of good and bad) and often very realistic in terms of work and life etc...

The main "genre" (if you will) has been running late.  I.E. not getting to work on time, or going for a break and then realising I "forgot" to go back and have now been away from work for hours!  Things that I would never allow to happen in real life, but because I am dreaming about them I wake up and go through the whole day worrying that I'm running late, even though I'm not.

Just another day in paradise...

I had this the other day, keep meaning to pull it from the dashcam!  Not sure if it was instant karma though...

I was following a learner who was barely managing 20 through the 30 limit, very hesitant at the junctions, and actually stopped for a speedbump, I was already late and getting riled.  Now, I hope it was their first lesson, and I'm not blaming them, I didn't get close or beep or anything, but if I was the instructor I'd have pulled them over before a very long stretch of NSL with few overtaking places, that would've been the courteous thing to do with a queue behind!   Anyway, they managed to reach a dizzying 32mph in the NSL, and at the first overtaking place I checked it was clear and booted past no problem and carried on at 50-60.

Half a mile later coming round a shallow bend I see what looks like 2 cars side by side in the distance (I'm doing 50ish so they're getting close fast)...very quickly realise there's some slow BMW on my side that's not fast enough to overtake the other car and get back before a full frontal impact with the Focus so I brake hard and he just gets in in time, only due to my braking.  It also makes me wonder if the overtakee sped up...

Now technically, neither of us did anything illegal there!  Overtaking is legal, don't think I was speeding but I wasn't looking at the speedo, he definitely wasn't speeding lol, and presumably he thought there was a long enough stretch of road to overtake before the bend.  Still can't work out if either of us should've done anything differently, such a weird scenario!

I woke up in panic thinking I'd missed the school bus this morning...  I haven't got on a school bus since 2008!  I can only it's because the kids go back to school here today lol.

Further to my post on things I like about school holidays being over. The flip side is now they are back at school the following I do not like.

1. The extra traffic on the roads

2. The school run idiots that cause havoc around the school because little jonny can't walk 150 yards to school so mummy has to take him in the car!

3 Can't go into to local shop as its swarming with parents and kids before going to school.

4. Kids just stepping out without a care in the world in front of you. Then give you a load of verbal, and hand gestures because you beeped at them.

Could go on for ever. Feel free to add your back to school grips

It was just above waist high where I went in, so it would be about 800mm-1M deep.

I'd forgotten that the schools were back this week:sad:, when I booked Brandy's follow up vet appointment on early Thursday morning.  With school holidays, from here to the vet is about 20 minutes. It'll be about an hour now:sad:

Working a lot from home, means I don't have a daily commute but any appointments between 8-9am and 3-4pm, seem to take at least three times as along to get there.

There's a big secondary school on the the top of hill behind us (75 metres by road, less if you walk as there are shortcuts between the houses), and the first school is at the bottom of the road.  The little ones in their first year might make some sense but I've seen neighbours drive their teenage children the whole 75 metres to secondary school!  Perhaps modern teens can't cope with hills:laugh:

I don't like that!

That really is pathetic mollycoddling of the worst sort!angry.png

When I was in primary school, almost all the kids walked to school, usually without any parents. For me it was 0.4 mile (700 yards), along some quite busy London roads. We would all troop into school in great gaggles.

In secondary school, I had to use the school bus. I often had to run to get it. Once, when I missed it ohmy.png, rather than face the maternal wrath, and beg for a lift, I set off to walk & hitch the four mile journey. Cadged a lift on a Corporation Dustcart for part of the way!laugh.png

That school bus was the bane of my young life. A constant nightmare, and it made after school activities, from clubs to detentions, very difficult.

I have had a great many close encounters with gorse bushes, all rather painful, but with no lasting effects. Falling in a 1m deep, large river, is another matter: And then to lose the fruit of your labour too!huh.png

Yes, same here.

Apart from one JW family (who were driven everywhere, including being taken home for lunch - religious reasons I think.), everyone walked to primary (½ mile) and junior school (2 miles).  We all used to stop off at the conveniently located sweet shop on both the outward and return journeys. Most of us learned how to budget from that, spend it all before school, or split and have confectionery before and after school. Strawberry bonbons featured heavily in my childhood purchasing decisions:laugh:

It was only on the very first week (at primary) or first day (at junior) when a parent might accompany you

At secondary school, which was about 4 miles away, I cycled, along with around 75-80% of my peers, those who were closer would walk.

The only times, you might get collected by a parent, was either through some misdemeanour, resulted in you being suspended for the rest of the week or term. The head would summon your parent to remove you from the school. or a medical appointment that couldn't be arranged for lunchtime.

I can't believe you got detentions!

I never once had one.

I also never missed the bus...still worried about missing it every day though lol.

I don't like Western Digital portable hard drives. Particularly the My passport 1 TB.

Lynn bought it to store all her Knitting and crocheting patterns plus pictures. 1 month in, and it is no longer recognised by her win 10 laptop or my win 7 Ultimate PC.

Western Digital support don't give a stuff, Yes they will send a new drive. However the problem is the data on the drive can not be accessed. 100's of £ worth of patterns on there plus important docs.

They sent me to one of their partners to recover the data. However, the quote was between £300 to £1200 I was expected to pay. The drive cost £50.00

Have had new cables still no joy. Computers still will not recognise the drive. Apparently it's a well know issue with them for some years too from google searche

Not having a good day.

Whereas, I am having trouble believing you managed to get through your entire school days, without at least one detention.

Getting detention was a right of passage that you went through; like puberty or long trousers in the winter

I think I just managed to avoid it, in fact. Though I did get lines to write, bad handwriting was one cause. It is even worse now, that is why I type! Even then it comens out garbagee quite ofthen, and di ahve to spend agees edittinf it.

I did have a sticky interview at primary school. I was co-ringleader in a great game in the playground. We all joined in a long chain, and ran around, curving about like a demented snake. The aim was to throw the kids on the ned of the cahin off (oops there goes the writing again), and into a brick wall or some prickly bushes. And to mow down anyone not taking part, and unwise enough to get in the way. Boring teachers took a dim view of it after a while, and put a firm stop to itohmy.png. We were on a warning to be on best behavior after that. mellow.png

But it sounds like Ghana was a real badly behaved pupil.laugh.png Or was it just a tough school?

Hahaha sorry Ghana, but that is so funny (you falling in a river!) - obviously glad you're ok, and I'm very sorry that your fruit was lost in action also, but damn that's funny!

On the topic of bad dreams, I still get a few about uni - my course was actually fairly intense compared to some - I think we were about 35 hours a week in lectures... all the lecturers were strict and it was all in all, not a relaxed form of education... My dreams vary from lecturers asking us to hand in big essays as we leave the room, naturally it's an essay I had no idea was due. Or them announcing we're having a big test - again something I didn't revise for... haha... sigh..

I got one stroke of the cane for forging a sick note 😎

Used to get detentions for not handing in homework (used to have to write the school rules out continuously for an hour to cover 4 sides of A4 with more detentions if we cheated and left big gaps between lines).

Still left school with 6 O-levels though.

I don't like the second sleepless night in a row!  I thought yesterday night was just a one off, but this seems to becoming a regular thing now...
