The front mount is less stiff than the other 3 that you will be replacing. I guess that is because the down pipe and centre section join here so there is a bit more movement required to allow for the engine movement

Finally managed to bag myself an exhaust, woohoo!

Hopefully sometime next week. As I didn't order it till this evening, I don't imagine it will arrive before Monday. Then I'll need to book it in. Will probably pop into the garage that did my other mods on Monday and aim to get it done on Wednesday. Any advice about the fitting of the exhaust? I'm not too sure what to do about the stock exhaust mounts. I think I'll probably just stick with them, and if there's any problems, consider changing them for the Focus ones.

I assume the guys at the garage will know what they're doing, they did a great job with my Intercooler and charge pipe upgrade, so I reckon it'll be fine.

I'm excited to finally be getting it sorted, can't wait to have it installed.

Yes the exhaust is finally back in stock on the website, nearly took them a month after I got mine. Hopefully you'll be ok with the stock mounts but listen for it knocking at the back. I'll be getting the upgraded mounts fitted tomorrow hopefully.

I just hope there won't be any issues with the clearance after the new mounts are fitted, because the standard mounts are stretched quite a lot by the weight of the exhaust and there isn't much clearance at the back. It might sit slightly higher with the stronger mounts but I'll see how they get on. Is there any adjustment in terms of how the exhaust hangs and the clearance? I assume they will just fit the mounts and that's it.

Mine is on standard mounts albeit new ones I think. No issues for me.

Past experience with stainless powerflow exhausts there's very small adjustments in the hangers (from the installer)

Got the new mounts but didn't have time to go over to York this morning due to Post Office losing the parcel and taking ages to find it lol, so I'll go Monday afternoon.

These poly mounts are very stiff compared to the standard ones so I hope it will all be ok in terms of clearance and allowing the exhaust to move as much as it needs to. Did you buy the mounts from sico-developments? If so Stoneacre could have ordered them as they are ford parts and would have had them for your visit.

I ordered them from http://www.fordpartsuk.com/ but yes I could have just given Stoneacre the part number, would have been easier.

I emailed Mountune again about installing the poly mounts, and here's what they said:

If you are experiencing knocking from the exhaust, it is clear that the exhaust is not fitted correctly.

When it is fitted correctly, you should not experience any knocking.

In addition, it is not necessary to fit different or uprated exhaust mounts to fix this!

All this is likely to do it transmit additional, unwanted noise and vibration into the cockpit.

So I'm a bit confused as to what to do now. I'll give Stoneacre a call before I go later and see what they make of that, because it could just be that after 2 attempts they are simply unable to fit an exhaust properly.

I assume going over bumps it's the vertical movemnt of the exhaust that causes the knocking, so it should be obvious where the contact is happening shouldn't it?

Also has anyone else with uprated mounts noticed increased noise in the car as Montune's email suggests?

I spoke to Mountune about the same issue myself, asking about the mounts and was it worth using different ones. They gave me the same response: "If anyone is experiencing knocking with the Fiesta ST cat back exhaust, it is very simple - the exhaust is not fitted correctly! There is plenty of scope for adjustment, and when fitted correctly there should be no knocking.

There is no need to change the rubber exhaust mounts.

The exhaust is designed to work with the original mounts."

It would seem as if Stoneacre haven't done their job properly. I would keep on at them about it until it's sorted, using the response from Mountune to back yourself up.

Yeah I agree with bit about scope for adjustment. Had plenty of stainless systems that needed adjusting after a proper heat cycle.. There not like a standard of the shelf oem steel one.

Poly mounts will transfer more sound into cabin, weather that's a problem will be down to your own ear.

Cheers that's good to know, especially "There is plenty of scope for adjustment". The guy at Stoneacre said the opposite so I'm not going to let them make any excuses this time. I'm taking it over there later this afternoon so will make sure they sort it, and failing that there's another Mountune dealer just down the road from me where I had the MP215 fitted so could get them to have a look, and send the bill to Stoneacre lol.

I have booked for the exhaust to be fitted on Wednesday morning, here's hoping it arrives before then;) (it should be here tomorrow). It's been a long wait, but I reckon it will be well worth it.

They did some more adjustments, it seemed fine but I heard it knock once on the way home. Strangely this was under acceleration I think when I changed gear, so must be due to the engine movement. I'll see how it gets on in the next few days, but either way I won't be going back to Stoneacre again.

Silly question but ate you sure the exhaust is knocking, and it's not the overrun popping, that can sound like a knocking if the windows are up?

^ Definitely the exhaust, most of the time I hear it knocking when I'm going at a steady speed and the road has bumps or dips. There's one point on my commute to work where there is a sudden hump in the road that usually causes it, so I'll see what happens in the morning. If I hear any more knocking there will be some angry phone calls happening

Well I don't know what else it could be so I assume it's the exhaust, certainly sounds like a hollow metal thing hitting another metal thing lol. I think I heard it again this morning but will give it a couple days and see if anything changes.

I only received the exhaust today, for some reason it got held overnight in Bristol.

I've booked her in for tomorrow morning, 9am.

I had to take a quick peek at the exhaust, without removing too much of the packing, mainly to check the serial number; however, I noticed that instead of the 'mountune' laser-etched text, it has come with the way cooler looking M logo with the chequered flag on the exhaust tips, little things haha;)

Exhaust fitted, looks and sounds epic! Took them an hour and a half to fit, £90, bargain!

So far so good regarding any knocking, I brought her back across very bumpy roads and some speed bumps to make sure.

There's definitely more 'cabin boom', but it's not intrusive at all. I imagine it will settle down once the exhaust has bedded-in.

I love the throaty grumble at low revs and subtle pops on the overrun. It's amazing that when you put your foot down the noise equalises out and has no rasp at all. Really happy to finally have it installed.

Took it round town a few times, windows-down, to hear the sound bouncing off the buildings, definitely turns heads;)

One thing the mechanic mentioned, which may apply to your knocking issues Phil; they had to move/adjust the handbrake cables slightly so they weren't touching the exhaust. I wonder if the knocking you can hear could be cables on exhaust? Probably not, but worth mentioning perhaps?

I was wondering what you guys did with regard to your old stock exhaust?

The garage kindly wrapped up mine and gave it back to me.

I spoke to them briefly about 'scrapping' it, and some sort of 'cash-back'; but it's not something they could do.

As the car/exhaust is only a few months old, I imagine there's still some good value in it.

Just wondering if anyone has any advice on what could be done with it?

I also have the stock intercooler, charge pipes & induction pipe just lying around my garage.

Must be something worth doing with them;)
