Ok I placed the video recorder 3mtrs away from the exhaust so you can't really hear the idle properly, a much deeper sound then the recorder shows, but there's clips that show that nicely. Of load revs. Had to turn my iPad to full volume, in the flesh it's actually louder by half again. The amazing thing with this exhaust the harder she revs the quieter she gets! The idle note seems to clip the recorder, making a rasp that isn't present in real life.

Better idle version, max of 1500rpm blip of throttle.

Lovely growl to it, just makes me crave one even more;)

  • The big hose on top is the induction hose, you can't really see the boost pipes from above.

  • It won't increase power by more then a couple hp if any with the cat in place. But even with a sports cat or decat you won't see hp increases without a remap after fitting. The turbo will spool quick

  • Got it done yesterday and it's amazing as I expected :) I think it sounds best at low revs when you can actually hear it over the road noise. It's not rediculously loud and that's a good thing, espec

Isn't it just! Gets a little deeper o boost too, but no louder, which is the part I can't get my head around! It just changes its tone, which means you get no drone! Best exhaust I have ever had!

Should also point out not only does it sound amazing, it looks very well made, nice looking welds, and compliments the rear of the car nicely too, with the pipes sticking slightly out from the bumper. Been well worth the wait!

^ Yes I agree it looks great, and I was surprised by how much bigger the exhaust tips are than standard.

True they are much bigger, but really check the bore coming out of the box compared to standard, that's easily twice that of the stock version

Does anyone know if the standard hose clips fit the mountune charge pipes?

They do apparently, but the replacement clips are much easier to use.

Has anyone replaced the exhaust mounts after fitting the Mountune exhaust, and would this affect the warranty? I think I heard the exhaust bumping against something when driving on a bumpy road yesterday, I assume it was the exhaust anyway.

Am I right in thinking that fitting some better exhaust mounts this will keep the exhaust more securely in place, and do Mountune sell them? (can't see any one their site)

Go back to the dealer doesn't sound as if the fit was right.. With a stainless system it needs to fitted cold, them adjust hot.. If they didn't do a hot adjustment it could just need to be adjusted.. I know Mountune took mine out for a drive after fitting (heard and saw them doing it) then adjusted.

^ Ok I'll give them a call. He said he had checked the clearances and warmed it up, and I didn't notice any knocking until yesterday, but I'll see what they say. Should the standard mounts be ok, and would this exhaust be heavier than the standard one?

What adjustment can be done to this exhaust anyway, is it just forward and back a bit where it mounts behind the cat, and then it just sits on the mounts?

I believe my on is on the original mounts but haven't checked.. You can move them around by bending the mounts. But leave it to the dealer to check..

Won't do any harm to replace with silicone mounts they will last longer.

It will be the rubber mounts mate, as the exhaust is abit heavier they tend to stretch, you can either put some cable ties around them to strengthen them up or upgrade to the focus rs mk2.5 exhaust mounts you can buy them from ford.

Thanks Will, I'm taking it back to the dealer tomorrow so will ask them about the mounts.

or upgrade to the focus rs mk2.5 exhaust mounts you can buy them from ford

Do you know how I can get a part number for these, and will they be the same size?

Maybe ask Mountune what they use?

On side note, how's it bedding in? Seems to get better everything I drive it.. Although a couple of my neighbours arnt to keen.

^ I think it's bedding in nicely in terms of the sound it makes, but it's hard to tell. I'm pretty sure I can hear the turbo when giving it a good rev :)

I'll ask Mountune too so then I'll have some more info before I go to the dealer tomorrow afternoon.

Mountune will say it needs adjusting and that they've never had an issue with the mounts. Some people don't have an issue but some will, the exhaust is heavier so is going to put more strain on the OE hangers.

RS mounts from Ford 1688752 about £9 each or use powerflex EXH-005

I got my silicon mounts off Sico developments eBay shop think they were around £30 post-38083-144467901622_thumb.jpg

Just had a look under neath mine.. Tried getting a photo but struggled to an image. But they look like those yellows ones above but in red. No idea what the normal ones look like.

They are the Ford ones that sico buys from a ford dealer and sends to you when you order them from him. May aswell cut out the middleman and go direct to Ford.

^ Are those yellow mounts the Focus RS ones mentioned above? And I assume I would need 4 of them looking at the pics of the exhaust on the Mountune site.

Yes they are, 3 will be fine although you would probably be ok just changing the 2 on the backbox, I think the one right at the front is a different shaped rubber mount.

Is the part number the one in large font i.e. 1 688 752 ?

Edit: Just noticed that's the part number you mentioned Mark so that's it then :)

Found it on Ford Parts UK: http://www.fordpartsuk.com/shop/ford_focus_rs_2009_exhaust_rear_silencer_bush_f_1688752.htm

I'll see what the dealer and Mountune say about the mounts and then might order a couple just to hold it more firmly.

Here's the response from Mountune:

Yes the exhaust is designed to fit with all of the original rubber mounts.

If you've got knocking coming from the exhaust, it simply needs to be adjusted.
When the exhaust is fitted correctly there should be no knocking.

So hopefully if they adjust it properly it will be ok.
