the Astra, that so far, the only interested buyer has failed to turn up

I was lucky when I sold my (one & last) V*****ll, the buyer paid up without quibble.biggrin.png

It was Janes & co, Tiverton, scrap metal merchants. And they gave me £205 for a Vectra, a spare Cat (the platinum/rhodium sort, not the miaow sort!), and a Lawnmower.

And I had the pleasure of driving home in my New (well 120k mile, 4 year old) Focus.

A good day!smile.png

As was mine, although not a local seller, it came from a village just north of Hereford.

I did notice when i went looking for one, all those that appealed were at least 100 miles away, and Scotland and north west Wales had the best ones.

When buying my last car (2011), I had a shortlist:

Focus, Estate, 1.8TDCI, Mk2, Under £4000.

(Focus cos it looked & seemed nice, Estate for logs & general rubbish, 1.8 to avoid DPF, Mk2 for OBD2 compliance, under £4000 for obvious reasons. Did quite a bit of homework!)

And short was the right word for the list. I noticed quite a few in Wales, did not look in Scotland!.

I had put the Vectra in for MoT at the earliest date, it failed on emissions (cat/O2 sensor), so I had a month to find a replacement. Only just made it! Ended up driving to Tiverton (Vectra still running as well as it ever had, on its last journey!), twice.

I have not regretted the choice so far.smile.png

Though I had a little scare today: Oil inside and around the pipe from intercooler to inlet manifold. Did not seem to be coming from the crankcase breather. Eeek: could it be the turboohmy.png. Had a look at the input side of the intercooler, that was not oily. So no major leak there. Perhaps it is old, built up over time. But also when the oil was changed in June, he put a bit too much in, & I siphoned out a jam jar full, maybe it happened then. Will just have to keep an eye on it. Even so, the beast has served me pretty well, for £2700.

I learned today how use the organise tools in Foxit Phantom, or more specifically how remove the massive A4 white space that my scanner had included around an ID card, I'd scanned into pdf

I have learned today that are some really obscure and very specific apps on Google Play:unsure::ohmy::laugh:

I discovered whilst browsing through the reference category for an app whose full name I couldn't quite remember (something, something disease by a developer beginning with G) , such gems as:

Rice Doctor - an encyclopaedia of diseases and pests for the rice grower.

Parkland Seed Potato - catalogue of seed potatoes available for the North American grower from Parkland Potatoes

Diagnosis of Oral Ulceration - self descriptive

Sweetpotato Diagnotes - an interactive tool for diagnosing 80 disorders in sweet potatoes.  It only appears to have been downloaded once!

I learned today that in certain circumstances, smoking actually saves lives...  It keeps me calm and stops me killing people!  Although I dare say that pushing a certain person down the stairs would have been more satisfying...

On the same subject, I also learned today that if I have to stay at my current place of work for the forseeable (which is looking more likely by the day), I need to change managers ASAP, or the above mentioned idea may become a reality.

I've learned today, it's not a good idea to get a Roomba if you have a dog that might have an accident on the floor.

One of my colleagues found this article on the mirror website, detailing how one couple awoke to a problem one night. The tale of a Roomba plus puppy plus toddler

I think I'll stick to my Hoover Senior!

I learned today that no matter how much of a cabbage someone is being behind you, you should try and refrain from swearing at them when they finally push their way to the side of you xD they only jump scare you by pretending to drive into you in their useless piece of junk. I don't even know what it was. Will have to check the dash cam!

I have also learned that you probably shouldn't give chase either, cause someone else in a Vauxhall Astra van will join in and start acting like a drunk driver... O.o interesting morning I can tell you!

Not unlike dogs and cats with painting

Once when I painted the bathroom radiator, Brandy decided to come in and stand right next to my newly painted radiator, whereupon she set about wagging enthusiastically. Gloss paint doesn't readily come out of tail fur, or at least there aren't any "dog safe" solvents to remove it.  She wore a lilac highlighted tail for a few months

Whilst emulsioning a room, I was waiting for the first coat to dry, I thought the cats were outside. Only Tigger the 1st wasn't, he walked through the paint filled roller tray, along the dust sheet covered floor but then out the room:ohmy:, leaving a trail of gradually fading paw prints all through the hall, on the contrasting carpet

I've learned that trying to assemble bedroon furniture with 3 dogs in the house is nigh on impossible.

Every time I go to move something heavy I have to negotiate a slalom of furry obstructions intent on watching me from a distance of 6 inches.

I know they love me dearly but wish they would bog off into the garden and give me space to work.

You don't have any cats then? My cats are very technically minded and insist on helping me at all times

Today (Ok yesterday lol) I learnt that the comedian Tim Vine is presenter Jeremy Vines brother...who knew!!

And i also learnt just how recently a lot of drugs were produced...  Penicillin wasn't around when my Nan was born...  And small pox was still killing people in the 70s...the 1970s!  As much as I hate medical stuff theres currently a bbc4 series on it which has been really interesting tbh, although I spend half the programme looking away from it!

Yep I have been watching that program too. I do love a good documentary full of facts and how medicines were developed. The more gore the better.

A year ago I had major heart surgery to replace the main aortic heart valve and re place 3 coronary arteries. 8 hour op. as soon as I got home I watched the operation on you tube. Not mine, but the exact same op. Fascinated I was.

Eww, I couldn't watch that haha, you obviously have a stronger stomach!

My Nan was awake for one of her heart ops, think it was the pacemaker one, and she watched it live on a screen!! What was even worse is that she wanted to tell me about it afterwards, umm nope! :yucky::laugh:

I have learned today that CDR substrate is not the same plastic as commercial CD and DVDs, and you can shape and cut CDRs with domestic scissors and office hole punches.  Try that with commercial CD and DVD, you end up with a load of shards flying across the bench.  The way it cut to easily would suggest PET or PVC, or similar polymer.

Whilst not in the same league of open heart surgery, my dentist has a number of cameras on his instruments, which enables you to watch your own dental work on the 42"  monitor on the wall.  You get all sorts of views you can never get in the mirror at home.  Like behind your front teeth, your otherwise obscure inner gum and the filling hole he's just carved out:lol:
