Hi everyone, does anyone know if the ST 170 alloys is a straight swap to my MK 1 1800 diesel because I took the alloys to my tyre fitter for the upgrade and said they don't fit ha ha so I've got 4 alloys with brand new tyres in the boot at the moment.

I'm sure it's a strait swap. Why don't u just put the 2 fronta on with ur jack and see if they rub on full lock. If they don't rub then they fit. But loads of people have got st170 wheels on a mk1 Focus so I don't think it will be a problem

The alloy wheel centres won't fit on the hub.I've just had the wheels refurbished my fitter seems to think the new paint on the inside of the centres is so thick that it's too tight to get on.Should I burnish the internal centre down or maybe take it to a machine shop and get it hollowed out to the same as my OEM alloys?

I think I'm going to buy a 80 grit flap wheel and sand the internal centre down and remove the paint.

Are the wheels powdercoated? If so the company who powdercoated the wheels is the one to blame. When powdercoating wheels all mating faces and wheel nut holes must be covered using masking tape or plugs to prevent the powdercoating to attach to these surfaces.

ST170 wheels will fit perfectly to any "normal" MK1/MK1.5. The only thing to be aware of is the tyre size. The ST170 has a different tyre size than the "normal" Focus MK1/MK1.5. The ST170 uses 215-45-17 while the "normal" Focus MK1/MK1.5 uses 215-40-17.

Yes the tyres are 215/45/17 the same as on the ST 170 and yes they have powder coated the internal mating surface.I think i'm going to try washing up liquid first, see if that works.

I don't think the tyre fitter wanted to damage the new paint job which is fair enough.

Sounds like they've had a nice thick coating of paint...I hate the way 17 and 18 Ford alloys corrode... the 15 in alloys that came on my 52 foccy though seemed invulnerable... It had like hairpin spokes...check it out...

You need some paint stripper dude, certain types contain a certain ethanol which removes powder coat, that way you won't remove any material u don't want to!
