GazGaz
Hi everyone, OK just bought a 2006 focus 2.0 tdci 232000km. Driving along and she cut out with warning lights am dash. Turned car off then ignition on got :esp failure and engine management failure. Car started and idle but weak. Then tried to pull away and it stalled? It won't move bUT can idle with a ticking noise from engine. I have searched about this problem all say look at maf/egr/abs but all the other cases say they can drive their car still I can't. Any ideas? Besides takening it to dealer. Thanks
Jonro2009
If you have only just bought it why wouldn't you take it back to the dealer? If you try and fix it yourself then the dealer will take nothing to do with it if you aren't able to repair it.Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Jonro2009
Ah right, sorry to hear that. Some real scum out there. With the mileage on this engine it might be worth thinking about getting a reconditioned lump and swapping it? I have no real mechanical knowledge at all, that's just the first thing that came into my head. Changing a wiper blade is about my limit lolSent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Then tried to pull away and it stalled? You need to be able to read the DTCs (error codes) linked to the warning lights. With that mileage and history I suspect it may take quite a lot of diagnosis to track down the problem(s). Forscan is the best diy system for Fords, but does require a fair bit of technical knowhow to get the best out of it. A Ford dealer will probably charge loads of money and still not find the cause. A small, good specialist garage might be better, but not easy to find. Given DTCs and detailed descriptions of symptoms, there are people on this site who could help. It would need quite a bit of input and work on your part, but that is often the cost of an 11 year old, high mileage car. An engine swap would be expensive if a garage did it, the rest of the car would have to be tip-top to make it worth while.
