VSS problem driving me mad

Old father focus

I had the age old Focus problem of speedo going to zero. I also felt a drop in power when this happened. I have tried three speed sensors all bringing different results. The last one I fitted seemed to have cured the fault, for just one day! Now the radio has gone very low although cd is perfect. The Speedo needle wavers most of the time 30 to 40 or 50 to 60. Also when changing gear the revs stay up about 2000 when i dip the clutch, but if I rev it up in neutral it's perfect and comes down to tickover as normal. Seems to surge at speeds over 50 too. Any ideas anybody? Help!

Replaced 2 vss on a focus I had a few years ago and turned out to was the wiring to the sensor itself so maybe look at that as well.
