Photos like that make me wonder why some people show no interest in keeping their car clean - looks like new again in the second one!

I bought some Bilt Hamber Auto-Wheel recently after seeing that it won Auto Express Best Wheel Cleaner 2018.

https://www.bilthamber.com/auto-wheel

Although Ford had done a good job of cleaning the ST before I picked it up, the previous owner had let a little bit of brake dust build up on one of the wheels. Really impressed with the results. Probably won't use it regularly though - I've kept the Lotus wheels spotless using Autoglym products over the years and treating them with Bilt Hamber didn't result in much reaction at all, so that should be the case with the ST now too.

Having now washed all 3 of our cars several times (and my dad's car) the Bilt Hamber needs replacing. As a bit of an Autoglym fan I've ordered some Magma to replace it. Apparently for use on bodywork too, as well as smelling better...

Do try out that wheel cleaner I mentioned earlier. I think it works better than bilt hamber which is a big statement 🤣. You can see in the pictures above it removed those dirty water marks which were there ever since I bought the car.

I tried the whole detailing thing however it feels like a lot of work for your car to get covered in muck the next day...

If I'm waxing then I'll squirt the lower half with some traffic film remover. I've no idea where it came from. Could be white spirit in a squirt bottle for all I know.

Personally think this snow foam malarkey isn't worth it. Costs roughly £5 a litre and doesn't really that good results. So far I've tried 1 clean with bilt hamber, 1L of Pro-Kleen, 1L of Autofinesse, and currently trying Autoglym. It's nothing to do with how foamy/clingy they are, it looks excellent on the car, but doesn't seem to perform that well. I will say the Autoglym sticks far better than the others. Usually I'd leave it for 5 mins and there would be hardly anything left, but the autoglym would've took twice as long to dribble off. Just my opinion, but it seems I get just as much dirt off by just jetwashing it from the start.

Anyway I'm also using Meguires Wash and Wax. Cheap enough and lasts a while.
I also use a random wash mitt I got nearly 2 years ago lol. Need to get a new one really as the fibres are starting to stick together.
If I'm re-waxing the car I'd run around it with some Iron Out/Magma.
Followed by tar remover if required (it's a white car so usually is).
Don't bother drying unless I'm waxing straight after. It usually rains an hour after I finish anyway, so little point lol.
Currently using Mer liquid wax. Not really expecting it to last long but we'll see how it goes. I kinda prefer hard waxes, but might as well use this stuff up as I got it for free...
I also apply some Rain-X every now and then. Excellent on the motorway doing high speeds and helps get the snow/ice off in a morning. I might ditch this though and just wax my windscreen...

Also don't do any particular alloy cleaner. Mine are black and powder coated a year ago. They get washed often enough that the Meguires car wash stuff keeps them gleaming.

I live in a hard water area, so need to dry after washing to avoid water marks. That's why I use aqua wax - I'd be doing it anyway so it's really no extra effort. Applying that every wash (and wheel sealant) protects the paint and makes it really easy to wash next time. You could get away with just using a pressure washer and shampoo in addition, but you have to admit, snow foam and fallout remover are a lot of fun [emoji2], and using those makes the contact wash even easier. Interestingly, the aqua wax instructions specifically say don't apply it to the windscreen.

What do you clean your car with?

1 - If it's very dirty I give it a pre-wash  spray with brake fluid, leave to work it's magic for at least 3hrs.

2 - For any remaining stubborn marks I find a Brillo pad lifts them straight off.

3 - For the main wash I dilute some Sulphuric Acid with Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner and some boiling water at a ratio of 9/8/1. This solution is applied with a good stiff yard brush.

4 - I tend to get a bit lazy then so don't bother rinsing and just move on to drying. For this I usually kick the cat out of her bed to use her lambswool bedding. Once dried I take the car down the expressway just to blow off the cat hairs.

5 - After trying many household products I've found copious amounts of extra firm hold wet look hair gel to be the best for adding that finishing shine, just apply it by hand all over then sit back and watch it dry. The added bonus is that it forms a hard shell to protect your now gleaming metalwork.

6 - For tyre dressing you can't beat some good old used engine oil, I like to coat the full tyre rather than just the sidewall as it looks a more professional finish fully coated.

I hope my tips are helpful to you guys and girls, feedback is welcomed!😉

You need some paint left to inflict swirl marks 🤣

Exactly Tim, that's why I said 'Gleaming metalwork' rather than paintwork.😂

I use Bilberry for my wheels and does the job well, only used it a few times yet but was told to use it by next door.
