Knocking Sound After Starting

Hi all, i'm after some advice or info. I have a 59 plate 2.0 (136) diesel with 49,000 miles.

When i started up today there was a knocking sound, not really loud, but loud enough to notice with radio off. When i put the clutch pedal down the sound went then came back when released.Turned the engine off to open bonnet then started back up to listen again and the noise had gone. The car drove fine all day no problems changing gear etc.

Any ideas? or has anyone else had this?

Many thanks Stuart

Sounds like a DMF but im not sure if you car has one. can you hear it if you dump the clutch? leave it idle and in neutral and quickly release the clutch

Hi its got the 6 speed manual box, so it may have. i've noticed today a bit of a "judder" when idling, not constant. How long should one of these last?

No way of knowing how long one will last, all depends on driving style and if its had a previous owner who wasn't so careful with it. Mine lasted 110k miles, but have known others to let go at 30k, and your symptoms do seem to point towards the DMF. If it does turn out to be this, be sure to change the clutch and slave cylinder at the same time. Not a cheap job unforunfortunately.

What other symptoms should I look/listen for? The knocking noise hasn't returned. spoke to local dealer and they said bring it in for a listen,
