New to this so idk if this is where I am meant to post this however, I am wanting to change the colour of my alloys from a silver to a black what is the best way to do this?
jeebowhite
depends on the budget! If your wanting them done "properly" you will need to pay an alloy specialist, depending on where you go, it can cost around £50 - 75 per wheel, as they dunk it, strip it back to bare metal, sandblast it to make it smooth, then powdercoat it to the final colour.
bluefiesta
Okay thank out don't wanna spend to much as skint atm but might leave it till December time when I have a bit more cash so it won't be horrid.
jeebowhite
haha, fair game, the alternative is you can do it yourself! I have been contemplating the idea myself, where you just sand back, tidy up the wheels if needed, then you just spray and lacquer the wheels with your choice of paint. Some good results This one is the best success story I have seen yet though, although your wheels are nowhere near it, it shows what you can achieve! :D http://www.migweb.co.uk/forums/styling-wheels-interior/502236-diy-alloy-wheel-re-furb-how-i-do.html

karlos1987
You could do it yourself for about £40 if you don't mind getting your hands dirty. A light rub down with 2500 grit sand paper. Clean and let dry completely. Then spray 3 coats of primer leaving 30 mins between each coat. Then if possible leave for 24 hours before spraying the black. (I couldn't wait this long as the Mrs was heavily pregnant and needed a car incasecshe went into labour) I waited an.hour then sprayed gloss black 3 coats again 30 mins drying time and then again with the laquer as above. You can also sand between the prime/paint/laquer if it is drying to a rough feel. If you do it this way make sure you mask your tyre up unless you want a semi permanent glossy tyre. jeebowhite
no worries Karl! Its definately worth doing it yourself. I just dont have the money to invest in it just yet, but when I get a chance, I will be buying the parts and plenty of paint to do the job, although with my alloys, I imagine that between the spokes will be a nightmare at best! karlos1987
Can't be any worse than my alloys? I've got the 20 spoke titanium wheels. It's not too bad I just done lots of light coats till it was fully covered as didn't want to risk runs. karlos1987
I thought the hardest part was rubbing down. Lol. Gets very tedious after half a wheel. Lol Sent from my C5303 using Ford OC mobile app
