Dwarf Giant
After staying off for over a month my engine light came back on and then kept coming back on despite me disconnecting the battery. Took it for a diagnostic and it's the dreaded IMRC. How much damage will it do if I drive it like this for a few months? Xmas is coming and the expense of that means I'd rather leave it for a while. Also, would it fail an MOT for something like this?
troy45
Can't see it causing any damage at all, it just means the intake manifold stays in one position instead of switching over at 6K rpm or so. Many moons back when the cable end snapped off my ST170's manifold I only noticed something amiss when showing a mate that my K&N induction kit let you hear the intake note change...... Think in your case maybe the actuator unit might have be faulty, heard in some cases if the cable has broken off it can lead to the actuator failing. Would expect for an MOT having the engine light on will be an issue regardless of the cause. May be possible to disconnect the unit's wiring plug and link out some pins or add a resistor to kid the system it's still working but you'd need specific details before trying this.
