Hi, just wondering if anyone can help.

2012 focus 1.6 tdci.

When I take my foot off the accelerator i get like a tapping noise coming from the front until it gets down to 1k revs then it stops, only noticed it up to now in 3rd and 4th gear and it doesn't happen all the time. Hope someone can help.

is the car still in warranty? I would take it back and get Ford to have a look? sounds like it could be the tappets though?

I've only had the car about a month so it's still under the the 3 month dealership warranty, I had it back in on Saturday for a test drive but it didn't make the noise, typical!! Only seems to do it once the car has been driven for a while, and even then it doesn't do it all the time.

Also the original post should of said the noise stops at 1.5k revs. If it was tappets would it not make the noise constantly? It's not quite as tappy as a tappets sound if that makes sense? Sounds are hard to describe ain't they? Maybe the sound of someone flicking a bit of card would b more like it.

If it's under warranty I would get the car heated up and take it back to them. Your consumer rights are 6 months anyway so even then you can still get it fixed after 3 months, but I would try record the noise on your phone next time you hear it. Get someone to gradually rev the engine and listen out for it.

That's the puzzling thing about it, even when it's fully heated up it doesn't always do it, I was driving it all day Saturday and it never happened, I drove it sunday and it happened, it's a strange one! Getting someone to rev the engine wouldnt work because it doesn't happen unless im slowing down in 3rd or 4th and above 1.5k revs. Doesn't happen when reving stationary.
