Question from a newbie relating to the 'vinyl stripe'

Hi there

First time to post...so hello! In need of some advice. Just bought a Ford Ka zetec mk2 in white, but with the stripe in pink (not the reason I bought it I swear!!). Somebody has vandalised it whilst it was parked in work. The wear is not really majorly noticeable (to anyone else) as its on the roof but keen to replace it to get it looking tip top and before it gets worse.On closer inspection it looks like the pink vinyl was placed on top of the original red, which hasnt been removed fully if at all.  Am I better just putting a new one over the existing pink (and red) or is it better to attempt to remove whats there first?!? Can this even be done?

Take it all off and redo. I work with vinyl everyday and that method of putting colours over different colours is an extremely lazy approach. It's ok for small things but a full stripe kit? No way. If you want to cut down on cost, get a hair dryer and start peeling yourself. You could always get a quote for new stripes from a graphics company but specify that you want the old taken off first.

Yip if a jobs worth doing its worth doing well, kpg is spot on - putting new over old is a recipe for future disappointment!

If it's possible to remove all the vinyl and have the paintwork buffed and returned to original (without a stripe) then it may be worth considering.

Good idea. I can't see why that wouldn't be possible. The most difficult thing to remove, if any, would be the adhesive residue left behind. That requires an industrial glue and tar remover.

I use petrol myself it gets rid of everything especially if you light it afterwards and kick the stupid thing over a cliff!

You know those decisions you make in life and you look back and think "what was i thinking".

That is one of mine!

Cannot even sell it now that ive refurbished it and replaced just about every sensor , fuel pump , sparks , brakes etc etc etc.

Its in factory condition after all my work but no one wants a Streetkrap softtop ,not even in summer it seems!
