Fordista
Hi all, I've got a 2009 Titanium, unfortunately my wife has lost the spare key so we're down to one! Popped into the nearest dealership and were quoted over £300(!) for a replacement. I've seen rumours of being able to recode Transit keys which can be had fairly cheaply but not sure it applies to this model? I'm not overly fussed about it being a genuine replacement (especially if £300+ is the going rate!) but for peace of mind just something that works if the main one gets lost. Any help appreciated!
dezwez
A good locksmith should be able to clone you a spare key a lot cheaper
Fordista
Good shout, I remember places like Timpson's can cut a blade but wasn't sure whether there was anything special about this model where it'd need some sort of special coding? simcor
Timpsons quoted me £75 to cut a and clone a non remote key for an Astra my friend had. Expensive just for a key that will start the car. Local auto locksmiths are a better bet. You can buy a key off eBay cheap enough even cut to fit, just program the remote locking, but you need the transponder coding to the car with diagnostics equipment. I paid for a Key from eBay £31 cut to fit with new transponder. Using an ELM327 modified interface and Forscan you can learn how to code the transponder in yourself if your tech savvy. Interface around £15. Total cost £46. This is only for cars with a physical key blade not the keyless entry and push button start. ScaniaPBman
I bought my flip key from the same supplier as Simon (simcor). The service was excellent, I sent a close-up picture of the blade as cut on my current key at 13:00 ish and the finished key dropped through the letter box first thing NEXT MORNING, amazing. To top it off the key actually turned in the door and ignition! Programming it to suit the car was not so quick. I am not up to all this Forscan clever stuff. The delay was mainly my fault since I had not done my homework properly. Local car key specialists quoted £60 to match the key to the car. My frequently used one said he would do it for £40. I sent Mrs ScaniaPBman round and he did the biz in 10 mins. Total price comes out at £31+£40= £71 If the frequently used man had done the whole job he would have charged £100 to supply the key and fully programme it. The others started from £125 for the same thing. I didn't even bother to get a price from my neighbourhood Ford dealer, I felt certain they would not match these prices. ScaniaPBman.
