How hard is it to remap the 150PS 1.6 EcoBoost to the 182PS version? Is it a just a matter of some dropdown menu in the software or is it a full remap needed?

To upgrade the 150 HP version of the 1.6 ECOboost to 182 HP the PCM needs to be reprogrammed. The new software needs to be the exact 182 HP equivalent of the 150 HP software that is currently installed.

Because of several (technical) changes through the Years there are several different versions of software for the 1.6 ECOboost. Before even considering to upgrade to 182 HP you have to know the exact software version that is currently installed. Based on this software version the correct 182 HP software version can be determined.

The recent recall makes it a bit harder to determine the correct software. The recall introduced several new software versions which are not all known yet. It will take a bit of research to determine which of these software versions is the new equivalent of the older software versions before the recall.

Thanks. I suppose I can see the software version through ForScan? And where should I look for the different software versions - Etis?

Or also with Focccus you can simply see what firmware version in installed in PCM module.

map change from 150 to 182 can easily be done with Russian diagnostic device UCDS but you must now the firmware version you can install as was mentioned above by JW1982.

I've been reading up on this today. Not sure if it's worth the risk as from what I've read the effect is mostly a higher top speed. However, if I decide to go for it I need the secondary bootloader and also the PCM file, correct? And a Ford IDS diag with the vbf loader? My current sw version is BV61-14C204-EXA and hw version is BV61-12B684-AD.

As far as I remember the 182 HP equivalent of software version BV61-14C204-EXA is BV61-14C204-EYA.

When using the Ford IDS diagnostic system there is no need to download the software or secondary bootloader manually. The 182 HP software can easily be installed by performing the non-Com procedure.

I see. Thanks. If I ever get round to purchasing a Ford IDS, I'll write here.

If I remember correctly the two versions have similar torque (around 177lb ft) and the benefit of the extra bhp is largely felt after 4,000rpm and clips the 0-60 time by around half a sec, maybe a bit more. I had a C-Max with the 182ps for a while and really it was no benefit in a car like that. I have however driven a Zetec S Focus with the 182 which went very nicely, so could be worthwhile depending on how you like to drive😀

I did it time ago and would say waste of money 🙂 you really would not feel the difference most of the drives. As @Eric Bloodaxe mentioned above the additional HP comes after 4000rpm and torque is the same.

And as i said you do not have to use IDS for this also UCDS diagnostic cable that comes with it's own software that has all the capabilities to perform the firmware update of the PCM.

I guess the torque was set to ensure longevity of trans, drive shafts etc.

as they no doubt are erring on the side of caution, a different map by a specialist will probably give a much better curve with more / smoother bottom end and more torque where you need it (as the chip guys don't need to match legislation on emissions) so for a far better drive and whatever top end hit you want you could go after market and get a better map

of course if you go budget nasty by local animals it won't be nearly as nice

I've heard good stuff about these guys  http://www.angeltuning.co.uk/contact_us/
