R0bin Tremblay
Just tried this. Failed. First time got the error code PKG_003. Re-downloaded and got the error code LST_003. Last try, nothing happens, either with USB key plugged after or before starting engine. Perfect task to give to your mother-in-law.

serge.coeleman@hotmail.com
Hi everyone, been dealing with PKG_ERR03 for the past month, basically since I have bought my Mondeo. The first part of the update goes fine, the second one never finishes. Called the Ford today, they referred me to the dealer, motivating it with "we don't know if it's the file that's corrupted or you are doing something wrong". Dealer said: we are getting out update file through the same channels as you do, so Ford website, and performing the same steps. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. You should try again after the new version is out. Total disappointment.
serge.coeleman@hotmail.com
Gave up and took the "rogue" detour today, installed Sync 3.4 + F9 maps with this https://cyanlabs.net/tutorials/update-ford-sync-3-2-2-3-0-to-version-3-4-all-years-3-4-19200/ Took about 50 mins. Graeme_r
I have been able to update my maps to F9 whilst still using Sync 3.3. Going from Sync 3 v 2.3 to Sync 3 3 was a nightmare as Ford posted corrupted upgrade files for a while on their website. Maps F6 to F8 upgrade was over 24Gb, but I got a 64Gb stick in an Argos sale for £8. After travelling any distance post Lock down was finally permitted, it took about 40 mins to do the first phase of the f6 to F8. When the upgrade re started a corrupt file was reported. When I got home I found the maps had got to F8 and all appeared to work. I downloaded the F9 update and rather than try to finish off the F8, I just let it install F9 from the stick, which took about 35 mins. After restart it proceeded to do the rest, but I had to go home so that was only 15 mins and was forcibly partly interrupted. it took a further 15 mins of driving to completely finish the F9 upgrade. Reply if you want more info.
NovTam
After a few tries without success with error pkg_err03 made a master reset in settings. After the reset update went through flawlessly
PatoB
So I had this exact same issue which I suspect was caused by power to the unit being interrupted during the upgrade. I inadvertently expected the car ignition to remain on after I had locked the car (not with the engine running) but the car chose to override and shut itself down after a period of time. After this i got this PKG_ERR03 error and couldn't get the update to try again. However I found a fix which I have detailed below. Some of these steps may not be necessary but i have included them anyway because I am not sure which one fixed it. Re-formatted my USB stick but instead of using the 'quick format' I used the full format. This takes some time and I think my 64GB stick took about 3/4's hour. Downloaded the MAP update again (note I had already successfully downloaded and installed the Sync 3 update using a separate 16GB USB stick) Uncompressed the downloaded file directly on to my newly formatted USB stick using the Windows 10 decompression utility - it worked fine for me. Opened the car up and put the Map Update USB stick in - got the same PKG_ERR03 error. Locked the car up and left it for >2 mins ('key cycle' according to Ford) I then put my original 16GB USB stick with the 'Sync 3' update on it in to my computer, looked in the 'SyncMyRide' folder and deleted the 'Sync_NW6E00TG_xxxxx(VIN Numberxxx.xml' file. This was the confirmation file that the Sync 3 file had been updated successfully previously. Went in to settings and disabled the automatic update. Plugged in the 16GB 'Sync 3' update USB stick in and sure enough the updating message came up again even though the Sync 3 software had already been updated. However the system knows that and you only have to wait for about 5 mins before it comes back with the message 'System Updated Successfully - please remove the USB stick'. This will have created a new 'XML' confirmation file in the 'SyncMyRide' folder. Up to you if you upload this to the Ford site again - I did and had no issues but suspect it wasn't necessary to do this. Switched the car off - stepped out - locked up and left it 2 mins. Opened car back up again and plugged the 64GB Map Update USB stick in and straight away it recognised there was an update available and started the 'System Update' process of the map updates again. Made sure power was not lost to the system whilst the ran (took nearly 2 hours) and the update completed successfully. Confirmation file created for the map update was crated in the 'SyncMyRide' folder again and uploaded this to the Ford site. Job done - hope this works for you. 👍
ian183
Hi, I am trying to update my fiesta maps from F6 to F9. On the ford website when downloading the files I keep getting the wheel of doom before it fails after several hours. I have even tried doing it overnight thinking the would be less internet traffic. I managed to update the Sync software yesterday with out and trouble so know that side is good. Does anyone know if there is a problem when downloading or if there need to be a mnium download speed for getting the files?
anon
The latest maps are F10. The Cyanlabs method uses the original Ford files with their own loading program. I have used it through several updates, starting from F6 and now have F10. It just works and I have no reason not to reccommend it.

Must admit I got so fed up with the official downloads constant errors I thought i'd try Cyanlabs version, downloaded the Syn3 Updater and created the usb stick, Took 50 mins to install (including maps) - it has a progress bar! installed with no errors and seems to run fine. How do you know if/when updates available?

I had the same issue downloading F10 maps from the office Ford Site, however 2-3 weeks later it was ok and downloadable. I updated mine, took about 1h10mins. Try the Ford site, it should be ok. Jaxpony
I am getting same issue trying to update maps . I am running Sync 2.4.23188. I attempted map update to NAV 2 22 and getting same error. USB provided by Ford 😡 I did troubleshooting with Ford CRC , master reset after a few soft resets . My case was escalated to a research escalation specialist that provided a recovery file to install (which will delete Nav , gracenotes and voice (they never updated) . They are sending me a new Nav USB . My about sync says my Nav is Nav 2 22 but all files have not installed as I do not have updated gracenotes and no voice commands are present
unofix
Your profile says that the car is a 2020. Ford provide a 3 year warranty so take it to a dealer and let them sort it out.
alexp999
It's 9 months in to 2023, the car could be out of warranty. They are also wanting to install the North American maps, so I don't know if the same warranty is offered in US and CA.

I'm not sure how. 1st January 2020 to the 31st December 2023 is 3 full years. If you are saying the car was registered in September 2019 then it could only be out of warranty by 7 days, and I expect this problem has been around for more than just a week. Perhaps Jacqui will be able to tell us when the vehicle was registered new when they return ?

No, that would very much be 1 day short of 4 years, lol. 1st Jan 2020 plus 3 years, is 1st Jan 2023... 1
unofix
Doh !!! You are indeed correct. I was just adding 3 years on to 2020 but not actually counting year zero 🤣
