Thanks @colinmcg71 that is really helpful.

I'd forgotten about the side airbags! Might be best to get a specialist to quote me on it.

Yeah, that might be the best way to go. I was charged £100 for two hours labour. Well worth it for the lack of hassle and improved satellite reception. Plus the newer stubby aerial looks better imo.

Did my update to 3.4 a couple weeks ago - I saw it now supports turn directions in the instrument cluster for android auto and maybe CarPlay.

Has anyone got this working in CarPlay? When I get a call through CarPlay now I see it appear in the instrument cluster but Apple maps / google maps don’t seem to show directions.

Quite like the look of 3.4. I have a fiesta registered in 2019 fordpass says its a 2020 fiesta so fingers crossed I get the update at some point. So far sync update site is saying I'm up to date though :(.

If you have 3.0 you will not get as an update but if you have 3.2 or 3.3 you might get it in the future

your assumption is wrong the problem is the firmware only supports LHD its not written for RHD compatibility with  the heater control module.

Hi all,

I am thinking of upgrading to 3.4, i have the Cyanlabs download. However I do not have forscan or the adapter tool needed to write to the car to the APIM upgraded for radio logos and calm mode.

Is there anyone around Berkshire/Hampshire/Surrey/South UK that would be able to do this for me (happy to drive to you and pay you).

I have a 65 plate Mondeo that came with Sync 2, I got it upgraded to Sync 3 (in 2017) and have been doing the official Ford upgrades myself, but I would like to go up to 3.4.

Can anyone help me?

I have 3.3 so fingers crossed 🤞 😁

Anyone know when the official 3.4 will be released to 2018 models of focus ST?

I’ve just bought a new car, it says I am on software version 2.3 so assuming there is an update that I need to apply?

You won’t get 3.4.

Highest yours will go is 3.0. Update is already out you should be able to check on the ford site for the download for your car.

Thank you, I have read all 17 pages and cautious about upgrading to a non official version. Does the 3.4 unofficial update improve things all that much? I am coming from a Mazda 3 (2011) which was had the worse infotainment system ever. Previous to that I had a ford focus 1.6 MKIII that did not have sync or sat nav. Just a screen so Sync 3 will be great. The only thing I dislike is the bright blue theme I would prefer a dark black theme or something.

Hi,

So is the Cyanlabs all in one tool the easiest and safest method now?

I originally swapped out my old Sync 2 Touch for Sync 3 and had to reprogramme my APIM to allow Park Assist to work again so would I have to do that again??

Also for the USB Stick is it still preferred to use a USB 2.0 or should a USB 3.0 be fine.

USB 3 sticks work fine, they just operate at USB 2.0 speeds.

They can be faster just because USB 3 sticks usually have faster flash in them though.

I've updated to 3.4 build 19101 on my Focus Mk3.5. I can't for the life of me get rid of the climate screen. It's so minor yet bothering me!

Anyone know how to shift it? I've tried numerous changes to the APIM using Forscan but nothing changes it.

No you shouldn't have to.

You could back up your apim as asbuilt with forscan just in case.

Matt

Just did the upgrade, the automatic windows installer worked without a hitch. Took about 50 minutes.

Question is how easy is it to upgrade the APIM firmware to get these new features?

I've got the suggested cable from this thread but not the beta software

Thanks Matt,

I coudn't figure out how to initiate a backup so took photos of the config settings.

Any chance you could advise how to do it for next time?

To update the APIM as described on Cyanlabs you need to get the currently experimental version of Forscan version 2.4 which you need to request from the moderators over on the Forscan forum.

A couple of people on here have gotten it, but not sure how long they had to wait.

Personally I had hoped that with the increased requests for the beta software due to the APIM update issue the necessary version would become public soon, but this hasn't happened yet.

My MK4 focus come shipped with Sync 3.4 - I already seem to have radio logos but can’t find how to access the calm screen - is this something what needs to be enabled in forscan? I’m guessing because I already have radio logos my APIM shouldn’t need an update?

Press the screen button on the audio control bar under the screen.
It cycles from normal view to calm screen and then screen off.

All done, around 15 mins.  No problems after sorting out the .lst file.

Nice theme, I like it!, also updated maps to F8 which is nice!  I will have a play and see whats new!

Thanks Tezza!!

EDIT:

  • first thing I notice is that long press of the voice button bypasses SYNC and activates whatever phone assistant is enabled on your phone.  That is mega handy and a feature I've missed from SYNC 1.1!!!

  • There is now a setting for automatic Summer Time

  • There seems to be few POI choices, but the most important are still there.

  • Now a high-occupancy lane option in nav, to make use of carpooling lane

  • Find Parking Automatically option  - will search for parking as destination is approached

  • Choice of 4 plain-ish backgrounds.  I like no. 3!

  • Quite a bit more responsive, though returning back out of a menu takes a second or so.

  • Tuning in an FM frequency, it doesnt autoseek after a long hold of the Tune button.

  • Much faster to change DAB regions

  • USB playback controls are much faster - eg skipping tracks, as is via bluetooth.

Thats probably not everything as its raining and Im cold and I want to go in now, but its a massive improvement!!!

I couldn't find the setting for automatic summer time after my upgrade to 3.4  😞
