Any iPad can, with an adapter write and read files to a USB drive, including compressing/decompressing, however the one flaw is formatting a USB drive.  This does seem an oversight.

    Yeah.  Kinda means you have to hope its come preformatted in ExFAT, which to be fair, most do these days.
