Sync 3 maps F9

I’ve got 3.4 but only have route directions on the main instrument panel when using Ford nav. 🤔

Have you got Ford navigation?

I have the standard Ford navigation and use Google Maps and Waze via Android Auto and on all 3 I get the route directions on the main screen behind the steering wheel. I do have the virtual electronic instruments on the dashboard. You may have to enable the extra functions but supposedly if your vehicle was 2018 on then they should just work, as mine did.

That just generates the XML log file to upload to Ford servers. Same as the one you can download separately if needed.

I’ve got Apple CarPlay, Apple maps. See the virtual electronic instruments on your dashboard, what do you mean by that? Mines a 69 plate. As it’s a lease car I can’t modify it in any way. You talking digital dash that all new Fords seem to have ? 🤔

Yes, it's the digital dash so it can display lots of information and the dial needles are virtual. However, your problem is that Apple CarPlay does not support showing the directions on the small screen, only Android does that.

My 2019 Mk4 Focus with real speedo and rev counter shows directions in the small screen in the middle.

While using Ford nav only? Or CarPlay or android?
I just assumed only Ford nav would have directions on the dash..

I’ve got an iPhone. I won’t be changing phone for that but Ford know how to pi*s off a lot of people. What about google maps on iPhone?

Hi Alex, I only use the built in Ford maps (Sync3), I've never tried to use anything else.

It’s a nice feature, I usually use sync for satnav. There’s a few extras I should’ve got instead of the blue paint. HUD ,blind spot warning, adaptive cruise control. I think they were all in the convenience pack..£500 iirc . White paint was £500 cheaper at the time.

Yes I would have liked them. I used to have adaptive cruise on my previous car and I miss it 😟

Hi,

I hope someone can help. I've just updated my Ford Focus (69) to Sync 3.4 build 21194 but still have no radio logos. I installed 1U5T-14G658-AF_1598633324000.TAR which the system said it installed successfully but still no logos (I tried a key cycle and master reset). I'm wondering if there is a newer version of the .TAR file available?

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers

John

If you have the HUD screen the sat nav directional info appears on there too.

Looking everywhere for the latest SYNC thread and failing, haven't updated mine since maybe June-ish so thought id have a quick look if I have an update due and it says I do

any new features that I should know about?

Evening guys what’s the difference between the F9 and F10 Map SD cards

about 3 years of road updates

A big difference then 😂

F10 is still quite out of date but I don't expect we will see an update anytime soon

iirc google have done a deal with ford for all the computer stuff from 2023. Not sure what sync4 will be like if they’re planning to change over to google next year.

“As part of this new, six-year partnership — and beginning in 2023 — millions of future Ford vehicles at all price points will be powered by Android, with Google apps and services built-in. To drive ongoing innovation, we are with Google establishing a new collaborative group,”

I’d maybe change my phone to suit my car. But definitely wouldn’t change my car to suit my phone!

So, when trying to update to F10 maps, i run the download and then unzip (decompress) the folder, I find I’m missing most of what they say.

• The folder with the title “SyncMyRide”  - NOPE - I have a couple of dozen compressed folders with SyncMyRide in the title, plus a load of version characters.

• One file “autoinstall.lst” - GOT THIS ONE - the only one i do have.
• One file “DONTINDX.MSA” - NOPE - Not a sign of this.

Obviously I can create the SyncMyRide folder, and dump the dozen or so compressed files (Which themselves contain 3 or 4 files each) but I have a DONTINDX.MSA file, which is some form of instructional file to order reindexing of the system, post install, from what I can gather.

Does any one have any idea how I might solve this?

On the other news of Android powered Sync 4 etc, I guess I’ll be dropping Ford as my car of choice in future, as I am not a massive Google fan.

The easy way to solve this is use the CyanLabs website which does it all for you.

OR

You can do it yourself from the Ford site. You are meant to start with a blank USB and format it in ExFat. Then you have to create the folder called 'SyncMyRide' yourself, the Ford site does not do this for you. Next you download the files on to your laptop and save. Next you unzip the files from your laptop in to the folder that you created on the USB drive.

The file DONTINDX.MSA is of no importance and has been missing for the last year. It simply tells the Sync System not to bother indexing the USB pen drive. Without it all that happens is the Sync System takes a couple of minutes longer to install since it makes an index of the USB.

Thanks.  I’ve got the files from Fords site, and I’ve got the USB set up.  Extracting the files at the root level has given me these dozen or so sub files also compressed.  I’ve got to assume these remain compressed on the USB. I’ll give it a go when I’m next on a long drive and see what happens.

I can’t use Cyan labs unfortunately.  I havent had a Windows laptop or desktop for nearly 15 years, and havent purchased any pc for 8 years.  These days of powerful tablets etc, mean insisting on a computer to create and work on things is a little archaic.

@Jus1973 this is the likely reason you’re having issues, sadly the documented and tested workflow requires a desktop PC. If you’re reasonably savvy the process is straightforward.

all files need to be uncompressed / unzipped, you may have some work on your hands to get a tablet to uncompressed all folders and sub folders and then export to an ex-fat formatted USB Drive.

Do you have a friend / relative with a PC that you could use, you’ll have a much better user experience via the more traditional route.

Thanks.  Unzipping is not a problem for the tablet at all, just that the published method, from ford, isn’t accurate.  I can get this done no problem.

Thanks all.

Justin,

The USB directory structure needs to be as follows:

autoinstall.txt

DONTINDX.MSA  (although this file isnt technically required for the install to work)
SyncMyRide (folder)

Then within the SyncMyRide folder

All the .tar.gz  files

Hope this helps and makes sense.

I used my bro’s PC and his knowledge every update this last 2 years. I’ve only got an iPad too. If it’s possible to do I would’ve thought someone would have posted on here about it 🧐 Good luck

Cheers for this.  Good to know the tar.gz folders don’t need decompression.
