Great guide. Iv just brought my first st 2012 and plan on upgrading to sync 3. One question is what do you do about the door lock buttons. Do you just have to sacrifice not having them?

Nevermind after a second read iv noticed the solution.

  • Thanks Luke. Your guide inspired me to see if it can be done. I must admit it took around 6 days to write up the guide, an hour per day when I got chance! Did you end up on SYNC 3 in the end

Hi All- just thought I would add a bit of info I've found, regarding EMERGENCY ASSIST UNAVAIBLE message. If you go into the RCM 737-02-01 Xxxx xxxx xx and change X to 8 it should work. I have done this on 2 different cars and it worked

I can confirm this also works for me. Thanks for sharing 🙏🏻 I drove with it for a few months… it was really annoying me 😅

Cant figure this out, maybe someone in here experienced the same problem since im talking about an bt-vc to sync 3 conversion:

Got an sync 3 apim non-MY20, worked for months but it randomly started acting strange when the weather temperature started dropping like only a bit. So when its around 10 degree Celsius and i get in my car, i start it, everything works only my sync is repeatedly trying to boot but fails every time. When finaly the whole car is warmed it is getting some further in the boot process and if im lucky it finaly boots (but rearly). When the weather is a bit more warm it wil boot like normal. To check how big the problem was I switched the apim module for another one and everything works normal now. I hope this one is staying alive for a much longer time but i was still hoping someone knew an fix for my old apim since they are not that cheap.

Next, you need to cut the wires off the end of the old connector that went in to the back of the FCDIM (screen). Label them before cutting again so you know which is which.

Pictures here would help
