I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

Now, no one likes a show off LOL Not that I'm jealous or anything - enjoy your holiday...

Don't forget to plug the plane in before bed. They take longer to charge in cold weather 🤣

Funnily enough, they do actually plug in to the electric and warm the cabin up.

Down side to holiday was driving to the hotel in a petrol 3 cylinder Citroen. C4 and double whammy of manual transmission . Yuk.  Still it was as an upgrade on the Dacia jogger we ended up with last Jan.

Spotted some hotel guests from last year and year before . Creatures of habit like us. 😂

Do like finally getting to the end of the chargeable photo storage on Google.  Have deleted around 5GB worth, so should have space for another couple of years minimum.

Don't like checking how much I've saved by doing this though.  Costs around £1.50 a month to upgrade to 100GB.  Considering it's taken 10+ hours over the past few weeks, I probably should have just paid.  Oh well, nevermind.

It's always nice to see someone enjoying their job

How very true. 😆

Good to see you're still around Uno.

Was his dad a tool maker?? LOL

I have a canopy type garage door (about 20 years old) and noted a few weeks back that one of the cables was badly frayed.

What I do like is that the local installer/repairer turned up this morning at exactly the promised time and completed the work (replacing both cables and cones) quickly and efficiently.

What I liked even more was that he said the quoted price (which I'd been quite happy with anyway) took account of the usual poor condition of doors and access difficulties. As mine was otherwise in good nick and the access was good he found the job easier than expected and gave me a further discount.😀 Can't remember that happening before!

Changing the cables and cones are pretty easy to change

I did mine a few months ago. Hammer , pin punch, pair of vice grips and used an Allen key to stop the tension spring from unwinding.

Yes, I had a look at the instructions and reckoned its the sort of job my younger self would have tackled. Sadly I'm not that guy any more!😀

I too had a very positive experience with a similar garage door repair. Like you, 20 years ago the repair would have been a fairly easy DIY job but advancing years has made so many things more difficult. As well as cables, the door had slipped off it's runners adding the weight of the door onto a repair, making it impossible for me. The whole thing, new cables various other bits, soon had it working better than it ever did, and very cheap for cash!

Not sure if this is a 'do like' or not yet...

Has anyone else got this £20 cashback from USwitch? Looks like a scam to my suspicious mind but as you can't click through from the email, and have to download the app instead, that does make it seem genuine?

What did you switch?

See there not many posts on the like or not like threads anymore. Seems like there's not as many posts of any thread nowadays on the ford forum.

Car insurance. It does seem to be genuine after trying the app. Although not quite as quick as I thought. They only pay out on 2 dates each month so could be waiting up to 2 weeks to get it.

And yes I agree, the forum seems to be going down the pan. Not sure whether it was the major update or whether Fords have suddenly become much more reliable... 🤔

i like getting a whole mk3 focus speedo cluster for a tenner just cos i want the blue needles for my smax :D

I do like salted chocolate!

Whoever decided to throw a bag of sea salt into a vat of chocolate deserves the Nobel prize for catering in my opinion! 😀

I enjoyed a local classic car show yesterday, held in the staff car park of John Smith's brewery of all places.

Lots of the usual suspects - MG, Jag, Mini, etc, and several Fords including an Escort Twin Cam which you don't often see. An immaculate Mk 1 Cortina estate caught my attention, very standard looking until I saw the Zetec engine under the bonnet and the gear knob with 5 speeds!

Similarly, spotted a Mini with what (I think) was a Nissan Micra K11 powertrain which seemed to fit surprisingly well but probably not as easy as it looked. Would have liked to get more details but couldn't find the owner - maybe gone for a pint!😀

No more stinky diesel ambulances ticking over for hours waiting at a&e to drop off patients.

IMG_20260521_140510004_AE.jpg

I assume they need to tick over as in some cases they're running medical equipment (or at least heating/aircon) in there. Electric is certainly cleaner/quieter but presumably they might be running the batteries down for the same reason.

Issue is not so much what drives the ambulances, but that A&E can't cope with demand, which in many cases seems to be triggered by difficulty getting a GP appointment these days.**

Last time I took the Mrs to our local hospital for an appointment, couldn't even get into the site for queuing ambulances, had to drop her off outside, go home and come back for her later and pick her up from the roadside.

(**Case in point - we've recently been advised that our local surgery where we've been patients for 35 years is closing for "efficiency reasons". Alternative GP surgery (if we're unable to drive which is inevitable eventually) is 2 bus rides away if you can get an appointment after negotiating telephone triage. A&E is one bus away and walk in.)

My surgery is really good when it comes to getting an appointment with a doctor or nurse depending on problem. Usually same day or no later than the next morning. We can now use the NHS app to contact Triag team with full details of problem and they assess then ring back with appointment.

Ours used to be the same - really went the extra mile. Now it seems its the patients who are expected to go the extra mile(s)!😀
