By the way, that's a beautiful machine but a definite candidate for de-tangoing =)

I do like getting the all clear from the doctor further to a cancer scare.  Still got lots of problems in my life but at least now I've (hopefully) got a lot of time to deal with them.

  • I do like finally finishing a model kit I first started 5 and a half years ago.  It's a very special model that i was supposed to finish by the time the aircraft took her final flights across the UK

Ok ok so I should have listened to Clive. Rule one!

Insuring an st-3 like above would cost me £10 LESS per month than the one I have. Do they just pluck figures out of the sky??!!

It makes no difference really as I couldn't afford the repayments on a new ST. Mine costs me £120 per month at the moment...

Why is it that when it comes to insurance, whatever combination of variables that apply to me at that time happen to be the most expensive?

I even farted around with the quote. Adding another year ncb put it down a bit, but making myself 35 with 8 years ncb made it higher again? I mean.....just...but...wtf???!!!

Try 2 things. Put down any postcode starting the postcode ND24 9DR* and your occupation as Staff Nurse NHS. I guarantee that will bring about more favourable numbers.

Clive - stunning car!

*not my postcode, not even my country

insuring  brand new st3 tdci £50 a year more than my 2013 1.0 focus. i just checked out of curiosity. and mustang 5.0 £89 a year more.(£289 a year with 2 accidents not my fault and 3 points speeding) i never understand motor insurance premiums and how they are calculated.

Jonro I would love to but unfortunately I neither live in ND24 nor work as a staff nurse. I think that is called insurance fraud! =)

I would love to know what the major variables are between us. As I've mentioned before its £800 a year for my 1.6 diesel, though with another years ncb this drops to around £600.
Is it just down to the amount of no claims that's making the big difference or is it a combination of variables that a make a difference together?

There are web sites that list 'acceptable' alternative names for jobs that are more insurance friendly.

Just like everything else

Thieving gits all of them. We should get Clive to go nick them and put them in cells for a week with the local gang leader and some ky gel.

I didn't mean for you to change the details and then accept the quote, obviously that would be fraud. I suggested it to prove a point. You said yourself you had, out of curiosity changed your age and added years to your NCB - also fraud [emoji6]. It was to highlight the postcode and profession lottery. It would be interesting to see how much your car insurance would be if you had the same vehicle but lived in an 'A' rated postal code area and had a more favourable profession. So to reiterate, I was not suggesting insurance fraud [emoji846]

(I meant 'BD24' not 'ND24') go on, give it a try. Clive is right, there are websites that will give you accepted alternatives to your profession, and how much the alternatives are compared to the job title you chose. For example I am a Nurse Practitioner but that is not an option to insurers. I could call myself a Nurse, Staff Nurse or even a Medical Advisor as they are similar.

Lol I knew that jonro, my joking tone didn't come across in text :)

Yeah I have a few options as a pipe organ builder: musical instrument maker or instrument engineer. Doesn't make that much difference though.

I know what you mean about postcode though, just changing it to my previous postcode drops the premium by about £50. My incredulity was really that a more expensive, more powerful car was cheaper to insure.

Anyway I'm singlehandedly derailing this thread into a grousing about insurance companies (a thread on its own) so I'm going to stop being jealous and grumpy now and say

I do like being able to drive at all! :D

I missed the subtle undertones of your sarcasm there, I'm bad for that lol. Insurance is just a lottery and at the end of the day, the only winner is the company providing the cover ☹️

I may be enabling you to derail the thread so I'll leave it here too.

Back on track.....

I do like my daughter, she's 1 and seems to be growing into a real person now. Lazy Saturday mornings where made for families (and hangovers)

Precisely.

I was shocked to find out that it costs slightly less to get insured on a 240PS nearly new Mondeo, compared to my 8 year old slow (100PS) Focus. It'll be at least another 9 months until I can buy it though :(

I think that must have something to do with a perceived notion that the security is better, build quality is better (less injury) and the stop pedal works better. Plus, they may think you will be more careful in what is seen to be a 'nicer' car?

Insurance has many variables. The main one is how much it will cost to repair. A former workmate instead of buying his 18yr old daughter an older car he found it cost a shed load LESS to insure a brand new car purly coz of repair costs.
My beloved tit x sport mondeo ecoboost is going soon for a smaller car. I've made enquiries of insurance costs and been gobsmacked at differences between car models. For example a golf gte is half the cost insurance wise than my mondeo and a lexus is300h.
It's weird but I see why.
Older cars cost more to insure coz of repair costs. Simple.
Ok where you live also and your job have influences but not as much as age of vehicle.
At the end of the day car insurance costs are an effing joke and an evil necessity unfortunately.

I see the logic in that but how are the older cars more expensive to fix? (This is a genuine question, I really don't know the answer.) older cars seem to be more robust and solid. That could mean there will be less damage or it could mean that any impact damage is carried through more of the car, I don't know?? A newer car has all the crumple zones so in a crash there is more to replace isn't there?

When I was younger I had an 'F' registered Mk2 Astra GTE, I tried to do a U turn in a road not quite wide enough and hit a dry stone wall, some of the wall came down (I gave it a good whack) and I just had a chip and damaged paintwork to the bumper. In a modern car the whole bumper would need replaced I would have thought.

the cost to repair modern vehicles is far higher than older ones. just think of the technology in these vehicles. at the front you could have expensive adaptive headlights, radar for adaptive cruise, front parking sensors. and how many airbags now!!

I never even thought about that. So that would show the above post about cost of repairs is not true?

If that is the case then it just goes to show that insurance is hard to predict

We've had a couple of cases up here whereby random insurance documents and correspondence have turned up at addresses relating to vehicles that are unknown to the occupants! Seems folk are using addresses picked at random for insurance purposes. I presume if caught the policy would be void but the car would be classed as insured on ANPR etc.

camping out since thursday for some ***** sparkling vinegar!! only in essex! lol
i would expect this sort of report on april 1st.

I do like seeing this headline! It actually made me laugh so much I couldn't tell my wife what I was laughing at 🤣[emoji23]
