Plus it has to be plastic/rubber gloves...  I've seen several people in shops this week wearing woollen winter gloves...you know the type with gaping holes between each thread. 🤦‍♂️  And I wonder if they're washing them after each shopping trip...

Plus people wearing woodworking masks which won't have anywhere near the right sort of filtration level for a virus.  A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing if people take more risks thinking they're protected like this.

On a lighter note, I never bother with gloves when filling, the car is always brimming with bacteria anyway so I just accept that's rank and do all my cleaning rituals when I get home.  However, I always seem to get a leaky pump and end up with diesel on my phone, wallet, steering wheel etc with a stench that doesn't clear for days!  I won't be buying fuel for a while now but will definitely use a glove next time.  I'll also try the Shell Fill & Go so I don't have to touch any cards, door handles, PIN machines and obviously don't have to stand in a queue or close to the poor till staff who are almost certainly going to get the virus!

Are we trying to make Hyperinflation a centennial occurrence?   In 50 years time school kids will be learning about the 2020's when everyone had to use wheelbarrows of money to pay for their avocado and hummus! 😮

And it always end with some deranged dictator taking the reins (unless that’s your views on Boris already). I expect there will be inflation, but I don’t think it will be to the levels of 1920’s Germany for example.

FFP3 level masks are suitable. That's what I've been issued and what Wifey wears at work. Scarves or diy store dust masks do nowt. Tbh, as long as you're not being subjected to air coughed or sneezed

I suppose one "positive" aspect of the present situation is that it is affecting most of the world so we're all largely in the same boat, unlike the factors that particularly affected Germany post WW1.

The measures taken by the government are broadly in line with other major economies and have received a large measure of support from people who are normally political opponents, e.g. Len McClusky and Frances O'Grady of the TUC. Boris and Rishi have gone far further in terms of state intervention in the economy than the likes of Clem Attlee and Ernie Bevin could ever have dreamed of back in the 40's.

I agree there is a coming together in this despite the social distancing;

I see two threats in all of this one being the virus and two being the work place employer; in some places there are work place unions which have rejected such things as time in motion and set times for tea breaks,

Now some companies are sneaking these rules in under the terms of COVID-19 you must take your lunch at this time and be out by this time to allow another department in at that time etc.

Also splitting down other departments putting two of them on to each of the contential shifts without any additional payment for Shift rate or any sort of negotiation atall, only to say its COVID-19 to reduce the risk of losing an entire department you are now on separate shifts.

These rules can last forever people; I'm very much aware of the required precautions as I work in the pharmaceutical industry and have done for eighteen years now were part of the rescue party, I now take breaks in my car rather than cross contaminated canteen, It then doesn't matter what time I take my lunch at and I'm not being timed of told to get out.

Just be careful about yourselves and if your still in work be careful what you agree to without negotiations; if your still working its because they need you alot; in which case there willing to negotiate.

I always use thick plastic gloves (medical grade) when I go to fill up my car. I keep them on when I go in and pay by card. I rarely use cash.
I also use the same gloves on ATM/payment keypads if I have to use them.
Once I've used the gloves, I thoroughly sanitise my hands using antiviral sprays/wipes which are medical grade and used in hospitals, clinics etc.

Wooly gloves are pointless because they'll just let germs etc through the holes anyway.

Also, people going crazy for those hand gels are idiots. The hand gels are alcohol based and do not kill viruses like Covid-19.

Now the UK government has stated not to go out and has closed bars, schools etc, you've got the flaming idiots rushing off to the seaside or the mountains which is causing even more issues and spreading it even more.

We now using medical grade wipes and foam sanitiser prior to getting to hand washing stations . Showed my partner what we were using and she said they were the same make  as she uses at the hospices . Unfortunately she is due to change jobs next week and go back in the NHS !! Bad timing or what!

That’s my thoughts exactly. I wonder if we will see some early 1950’s style stop and go economic policies to keep up with any rises and falls in the economy after this period.

I see this morning there's plenty of folk visiting there mother's in Our road

Admit I did visit mine but did so by chatting through the kitchen window from a distance and no present/card( I'm tight like that anyway. Ha ha )

My new wallet

Feels wrong 😂

All the staff at my local ASDA were all wearing rubber gloves yesterday. If anyone is worried about picking up this lurgy from the buttons on a card machine or the cashpoint, poke them with a long stylus or a short stick!. What about these store loyalty cards, I wonder if the till staff will refuse to handle them. 🤔

I think loyalty cards work on the payment card machines don't they?  Either via barcode/QR code or via the mag strip.  Been so long since I've used a manned till, I can't remember.  I just vaguely wave it at the self service till and it works!

The news reports are showing alot of folk out and about in the country side . Really?? Asked to stay at home. Now we all will be TOLD to stay at home except to go to work and food shopping. Just goes to show how thick a large section of our population are!!!

Reports of large amounts (more than normal for the time of year) campervans etc descending on Skye, Fort William etc etc

Rumors up here there have been a few arriving over the last couple of days. I can see the ban on any non- essential travel happening very shortly.

Seaside resorts like Skegness etc were packed yesterday too.
National Trust had opened their gardens and estates (except houses) for free but have now gone back on that due to the amount of people who turned up.

Last I saw we were told that going for a walk outside is fine as long as you're well separated.  Has that changed or is it just that everyone's crowding together?

I was intending to go to an empty beach tomorrow to get out of the house for a bit...there's never normally anyone there on weekdays but with schools and work closed now everyone else might have the same idea! 🤦‍♂️

How troublesome and annoying it my be, just stay at home the sooner people realize that they are spreading the virus and they stay at home the sooner the virus will be halted.

But the same is happening here in the Netherlands mass numbers of people visit the beach or go for a walk in the woods while the government says stay at home and only leave home to go to work and for shopping and if you go shopping go alone.

Going for a nice walk or a drive is fine as long as you observe social distancing.
Unfortunately it's human nature to clump together and it's hard to break that habit.
Travelling on holiday is dumb as it will only likely result in overloading health services in any particular area you may migrate to.

Store loyalty cards are handed to the till assistant and they take them and swipe them and then hand them back, Iceland, Co-Op and Nectar are good examples, it's the ones that you have on your phone through an App that is scanned without any Human contact, you just open the App, the till assistant holds up a scanner to your phone and it reads the barcode and adds the points, Shell is a good example. I'm surprised that all loyalty points are not collected via an App, perhaps it's coming.

Use scan and shop at Sainsburys.
You scan the loyalty card to take the handset then nobody touches any cards but you.
Only contact you need to protect against is the handset and a couple of screen touches at the end.

I have a Nectar and a Clubcard, they both have barcodes on the back.

You can also use them through the respective apps, but I don't see the point...  I already have my wallet out at the till, not my phone!

My local Sainsbury's have been disinfecting all the scan & go handsets for the last couple of weeks.  Not so sure about the till screens though!  And trolley handles are always disgusting...

If you use your phone app for scan and shop then you only have to tap the till screen a couple of times on paying.
About as safe as you can get when shopping tbh.

If you use a wheeled shopping bag and a touchscreen stylus then you shouldn't have to touch anything other than your shopping [emoji41]

I'm not quite at tartan shopping bag age yet!!

I always disinfect my shopping when I get home anyway...it's more the airborne contaminants in supermarkets that worry me!

I also wonder who buys the fresh bread that everyone's been coughing over...

No fresh bread or anything fresh that hasn't got either a skin to peel off or covered in plastic( and yes I know the environment will suffer with the plastic )

The skins of fruit such as apples, oranges and the like has a spray coating on them which is a preservative to stop them rotting too soon before being sold, apples, grapes and other fruits and veg that you eat the skins of you should wash before eating and oranges, wash your hands after peeling. Even the spuds are sprayed with a chemical that stops them sprouting. Some fruits, soft fruits such as strawberries are irradiated to stop them rotting, gives them a longer shelf life, has anyone noticed how they lack in flavour?, they are picked before they are fully ripe. It's quite shocking what processes some of our supermarket foods go through, I believe myself that this is why there is so many allergies, autism and kids with learning difficulties out there nowadays and a lot of these foodstuffs are so clinically clean now that no-one is building up much immunity, the Human species as a result is getting weaker and that's why this latest virus effect and antibiotics not working.is the root of it.
