FreeFocus
I have a 2008 Mondeo Ghia (BA 7). My headlight units aren't as water tight as they should be and let in a bit of water in prolonged periods of wet weather. I decided to replace them (didn't fancy the option of using sealant), bought some "top quality" after market units off eBay which had the usual after market problems of poor fit etc so had to refit the originals. Ford parts are £300+ per side, can anyone recommend an after market spare that is a good quality replacement? I've seen various parts companies offering brands such as Abakus, DIEDERICHS... once bitten twice shy.
DaSlave
I know that this isn't exactly what you are asking for but. A friend of mine took out the old, removed everything but the lamp unit, put it in a low heat oven for about thirty minutes, split them at the seals (the oven part was to make that possible!). Cleaned them out (carefully - mainly using glass cleaner and a soft cloth) thoroughly. Then used a silicon sealant to reassemble them. he also replaced with HID's and added a LED halo to each at the same time. That was a few months ago and he hasn't had any 'moisture' in them since. like you, he bought some after market ones that were a bad fit and just decided; "well, I'm going to replace them anyway!" Do a search on YouTube (example: Easiest Way To Open Headlights [Separate Lens From Housing // All Cars] (w/Pro Tips)) there are a number of them! Have you tried https://www.partsgateway.co.uk/ to see what the best price is that most of the UK's vehicle dismantlers can do?
FreeFocus
Thanks for the feedback, shame that the after market suppliers can't make a decent product. I'll giuve parts gateway a try, in the past it's been hit and miss with decent parts and junk being suipplied (I bought several BMW E39 spares via breakers on parts gateway). May try sealant if I can't find a good alternative.
