I have no doubt whatsoever there will be a whole new tier of snake oil salesmen flogging the 'ultimate charger', guaranteed to prolong your battery life by 50% or more LOL Using new space age technology developed as a spin off from the Musk/Branson rocket programs. With the scams being regularly highlighted on BBC Watchdog! We have so much to look forward to 🤣

Perhaps Maypole might do one?😀

That sounds very generous, till I think of my own car 17 years old, 112,000 miles. Still on the road with a bit of modest maintenance.

Looking at it another way, your car is still giving good service many years after the warranty expired.

That the thing, they are saying if it goes wrong in 8years or 100,000 miles they'll fix it, Ford only say 3 years or 60,000 mile, it might go on for 250K and it might not.

I've had Toyota and Nissan cars for over ten years and 100K+ miles each, no issue, but way back in the day a friend across the road got a 12 month old RS2000 and the engine blew on the way home .

Lets all be honest with Toyota saying 8 years and Kia say 7, Fords 3 is looking a bit mean.

Yes, but Toyota and Kia don't make the 1.0 Ecoboost 🤣🤣🤣

I can see this thread talking me into a Toyota if I'm not careful, particularly as I see the 2023 MY Corolla gets a light facelift and power boost to 193hp, which should make it fairly nippy.

I'm a big fan of Toyota. Have owned 4 ( 3 x Celicas and 1 x Supra). All started 1st twist of key and never left me abandoned at the roadside. Indeed my mums 20 year Toyota Yaris has been sitting on my driveway for almost a year now, never touched it for last 3 months and this week went out, started 1st time!

and it was a proper £1 note that felt it was worth something!

I remember £1 notes but that’s an antiquity ! In Scotland we continued to use our own pound notes for a few years longer than England. I vaguely remember old £5 notes , were they from before decimalisation? Definitely felt like they had proper value!

Northern Ireland used £1 notes right into the late 80s! We had an additional problem that our bank notes were issued by numerous banks ( Bank of Ireland, Ulster Bank, First Trust bank) with the result that if I tried to pay for anything on the mainland, it was treated with the same contempt that I would have got by trying to pass Monopoly money  🤣

We were the same with £1 notes . 3 different issuers too , Royal bank of Scotland, Bank of Scotland and Clydesdale Bank. No wonder English don’t accept them , used to annoy me , now I completely understand!

First "pocket size" calculators for the retail market appeared about 1969. First one I bought was a Rockwell (LED not LCD as nowadays) in the early 70s. Can't remember the exact price, but it was a ludicrous amount of money at the time, even with my staff discount at the leccy board as it then was!😀

First one I has was a Sinclair Cambridge in 1973, yes, pricey but I saved and used Birthday money. Not only that, it was an actual 'kit' which involved some minor soldering LOL

My Nan still has her first husbands calculator (making it pre-1985 at least), it's a solar powered Casio and still works perfectly!

When I was at school, maths teachers were always saying 'you won't have a calculator everywhere you go'...clearly they never predicted the rise of the mobile phone!

I still have numerous calculators round the house and often use them. There is something nice using a device with a singularity of purpose...

This is my favourite, from 1985, solar powered so 'green' before it was fashionable, and huge keys a delight to use when doing accounts.

All the above is the same as my recollection, plus the British Sinclair ones were technically far superior but the Keyboard and Display were poor, the Casio ones had spring loaded keys just like a modern Keyboard.

I can't remember if calculators were allowed when I sat my O Levels but I couldn't afford one anyway and used a Slide Rule (see below image) and Log Tables were provided. The head in the clouds Greens would be proud of me😁

Certainly slide rule and log tables for me!😀

Log tables. We had those at school and when I left I did wonder if I would ever need to use them again in life.........

Nope.

I still remember the 'quadratic formula' from school, still waiting for an opportunity to use LOL

Any of you guys seen this fb group ‘Stand Up To Fuel Prices UK Wide’ ?
Seems not very well organised but definitely picking up pace today. Plans for demonstrations , I assume blocking roads,  on 4th July 6am.
Also a call to boycott all petrol stations apart from supermarkets.
Seems to work for the French so ….. 🤷‍♂️ lol we’re going to find out!

They’ll need portaloos . My prostate will only allow me to protest for 30minutes !

Sadly, I don't 'do' FB but already only shop at supermarkets for fuel so  boycotting 'garages' is already in my routine! Northern Ireland has a proud tradition of blocking main arterial roads, usually with a burning bus 😁 (!), I wish you much success...
