Did you have the cooker, tumble drier or kettle on at the same time?

Is it a Smart Meter screen or just a generic plug-in?  I'd be wanting to know why there was such a major error on it myself!

Lol. No. Even the fridge freezer was turned off at the time and the microwave and no other lights on etc etc but ...............

I have a gut feeling that the monetary measurement that I was told it was taking per hr is more than likely the daily amount of Electric consumed but seems as I was in the kitchen and the other half was in the room where the meter thingy is ( yes it is a plug in) then who knows.

Extinction Rebellion up to their shenanigans again today, protesting in the house of commons, and gluing themselves to the speakers chair. Simply hilarious with their banners demanding 'Let The People Decide', in the very place, at the heart of our democracy, where the people did indeed decide!

What a bunch of woke morons. I would leave them glued there till parliament resits shortly. I'd also turn the lights off and the ventilation - they'd like that 🤣

Should be, but we've been waiting over a decade.  They could've built it by now if it wasn't for all the opposition.  Still not 100% sure if it's going ahead at the moment.

Well first thing they have to sort out is where are they going to get the water to run it (it can't be sea water)

One thing's for sure, it's a massive strategic target. You only have to look at Ukraine to see that.

Now don't you be giving that Vladimir Putin any more silly ideas. He's been a very bad boy already this year!

Indeed, very naughty, not the messiah at all!!

Vaguely back.on the topic.

Having a few days in Amble, Northumberland and noticed the Council have finished a new car park extension, complete with EV charging, since our last visit, so went for a look.

Disappointing to see yet again the charging can only be paid for by app or RFID card, despite all the Government promises to ensure normal contactless cards can be used.

Nonether, the chargers were pretty busy, one was a Nissan Leaf from Poland so he can't have range anxiety!

Yesterday we went to a new Lidl opened in Belfast. Advertising 126 car park spaces, with one EV charger. As we went in, there was one guy at it with his phone out, and his wallet. On going back to our car 30 minutes later, the guy was still there, though this time accompanied by 2 x Lidl staff, still faffing about with his phone & wallet. Obviously a few teething issues needing ironed out 🤣

Bit bleak if you need a charge in amble then only other point is at Morrison's and that not contactless either.

Yes, that's right (unless you have a phone full of apps and a wallet full of RFID cards, of course).

Called in there on our way and it's still the same - hard to find anyway, in a far corner.

Always seem to have trouble just filling with petrol there, too. When I try the pay at pump it never seems to work so I have to go in the kiosk. This time I got ready to go in the kiosk and the guy comes running out and says the pump is stuck on the pay at pump option!

I'm surprised anyone's allowed to drive in a place called Amble... :whistling:

I know it's likely geographically wrong, but I keep hearing the theme tune of James Herriot, All Creatures Big & Small, in my head on reading that, sounds really idyllic...  😁

You could get it even more wrong like Google, they seem to think that Alnwick castle used for the filming of Harry Potter is in Scotland !!! 🤣

Well, I've learnt something there!  Just Google mapped it, not even close to the border.

Wonder why we (Southerners) think it's in Scotland?  McGonnagals accent perhaps?

Sadly, us Northern Irelanders have never even heard of it LOL I've always said, this forum, every day is a school day!

My late Nan & Grandad went on holiday up there a few times in the 2000s...I still have a souvenir Hedwig somewhere.

Have you seen the Game of Thrones trees?  They're probably not far from you?

Surely you've heard of Scotland? Ah, you meant Alnwick!😀

A further bit of useless trivia is that 'Alnwick' is pronounced Ann ick.      'Annick' 😉

I have seen 'the trees', many times, and many decades before they found international fame, just a beautiful local sight. I have never watched a single episode of GOT but delighted at the money it has brought into this wee place...

My dad was born there, och eye... 😅

(Spoiler alert)

To bring this slightly back on topic, Liz Truss has just been named as the new PM.  Will be interesting to see what measures she's going to implement with regards to the energy crisis. 🤔

Also worth noting she only got around 55% of the vote.  Meaning 45% of voters preferred the other candidate.  I'm not entirely sure our current democratic voting system really works...

Tom, Brexit was won on 52% to 48%, a win is a win LOL 🤣

Oh, and NI has PR voting, and we still get muppets, the voting 'system' makes no difference!

Well, as Winston Churchill said, democracy is the worst form of government.........except for all the others which have been tried. You don't need to look far to see his point.

But I guess you meant voting systems. Yes, "first past the post" is far from perfect but at least it usually produces a clear result and spares us from the horse trading and ill matched coalitions you see in countries with PR. I used to enjoy watching "Borgen" and all the machinations they went through to get some form of government in place.

And as Stephen says, you still get Muppets with PR, mainly because most of us are smart enough to keep out of politics. Maybe we should get more involved?😀

I loved that show! Once read that Dominic Cummings based himself on the character of Kasper (The PMs spin doctor) - unlikely though, DC wasn't that smart!

When I was working in the Utillity sector in west yorkshire, used to get asked every other week as to where Leeds castle was.......
