I'm not taking too much notice of the ongoing Covid enquiry. It seems to turning into a bonanza for lawyers, and a forum for those who seem to blame everyone else.

I would refer my honorable gentleman to my comments made over a year ago LOL

Yep, I think they've already spent nearly as much as HS2 was supposed to cost!😀

Pleasing that this thread has been quiet for a while.

I mentioned on the  "Things I don't like" thread that my Mrs had returned from a few days with a friend, complete with Covid, so now we've both had it (again!). Felt pretty cr*p for a week, but we seem to be on the mend, and I'm sure it would be a lot worse without vaccination.

The same thing happened a couple of years back, same friend (who didn't test positive either time), and I was puzzling over why.

Only answer I could come up with was change of behaviour. We, and our circle, are by no means paranoid over Covid but are careful to avoid crowded spaces, etc. On these occasions the "girls"(ha ha!) seem to have relaxed their usual caution and eaten in busy Italian pizzerias, etc.

The explanation as to why the Mrs got it and not our friend, is probably simply down to the Mrs being classed as vulnerable because some of her meds are immuno-suppressant. Ironically she had a message from the NHS that she was now eligible for a further booster, which she'll certainly be having once the recommended period from testing positive (28 days) has elapsed.

So, just a heads up really, it's still out there and sensible precautions are a good idea, and do get your jabs when offered.

I personally strongly disagree on that point, but I think individuals are entitled to their own views, unless of course you live in Scotland 🤣

We just hold different ones!😀

My mum in her 80s is having her 'spring' booster next week. I was also offered one but on this occasion I have declined.

Me and "her who must be obeyed" had boosters on Wednesday. Both in our 80's and never missed a jab yet. Not had covid either thank goodness.

It's been a while since stated, the vaccine doesn't prevent you getting Covid, but it's designed that if you do get it, it should keep you out of hospital. Best of health to you both...

Same here. As long as they keep rolling them out we'll keep having them. I just turned 80 and the mrs has COPD. So far we both seem to have avoided actually geting Covid therefore no immunity from that so happy to keep it topped up with vaccinations.

Interestingly the leaflet that was given out (Moderna) stated it prevented getting Covid which is clearly incorrect. As Stephen says it's purpose is to strengthen immunity so you don't get seriously ill with it.

Not had a Moderna, only Astra Zeneca for the initial  couple, latterly the Pfizer Cominarty. The online version of the leaflet for that also mentions it is "for prevention".

Every study I've seen draws the conclusion that vaccines substantially reduce the chance of serious infection, and mitigate the symptoms of whatever you do get. In some cases I guess that means you could have it and the symptoms are so mild you might think it's just a sniffle.

I'll look carefully at the paper leaflet next time and see if it's still saying the same, but the use of the wording as above seems misleading and should be clearer. Certainly the NHS online guidance says:

getting a COVID-19 vaccine can:

  • help to reduce your risk of getting severe symptoms
  • help you to recover more quickly if you catch COVID-19
  • help to reduce your risk of having to go to hospital or dying from COVID-19
  • protect against different strains of COVID-19

Do you work for the government? That's the kind of ambiguous nonsense they often spew.  LOL A swathing one line statistic without reference to source, or indeed, without reference to what you are actually talking about 🤣 I'm not surprised @unofix is confused!

I wonder if that's a figure for the number who will survive the election campaign without cutting their own throats in frustration? If so, it seems rather high.

Been quiet on here for a while!.

Anyway, something got me thinking about this season's Flu and Covid vaccinations and I find that the eligibility criteria have changed slightly since last time, mainly in that the 70-74 age group.don't get one unless they qualify for other reasons

Now:

For autumn 2025, COVID-19 vaccination will be offered to:

  • adults aged 75 years and over
  • residents in care homes for older adults
  • individuals who are immunosuppressed aged 6 months and over

You can get the free NHS flu vaccine if you:

  • are aged 65 or over (including those who will be 65 by 31 March 2026)
  • have certain long-term health conditions
  • are pregnant
  • live in a care home
  • are the main carer for an older or disabled person, or receive a carer's allowance
  • live with someone who has a weakened immune system
  • Frontline health and social care workers can also get a flu vaccine through their employer.

It will be a very cold day in Hell before I'd let the government/NHS vaccinate me against anything ever again. 🙁

With current Government policy, particularly on energy, you'll be queuing for your jabs quite soon, then!😀

I think significant money could be saved by only offering the jabs to people who fit ALL of the above criteria.

I don't blame you at all. I wonder how many know what was in the astra zeneca jab ? If I'd known before l wouldn't have let them near me or my family with that 🤬 l suffered from a collapsed lung that the NHS doctors was certain was through working around birds too much never had 🤷‍♂️

Usually had the Pfizer jab, the time it was not available ended up having a Moderna one, couple of months later ended up with micro blood clots, DVT, in my lower right leg and foot. Never again, will take my chances.

If you was to break the astrazeneka 1 down as 5 ingredients ( was more like ) 3 was water based, 1 a steroid the other was genetically modified organism. this is available info which was probably only released after the you can sue them was brought in after all the massive side affects bumped a good few off ( they dont disclose what the gmo actuallyis. I decided given Ai is meant to assist us l thought about an hr ago l would ask it about that part as it can or should answer our questions truthfully where it's allowed this was it's reply. The best part was when l asked it if it would be willing to take any other vaccine if it hypothetically had the jab and had side affects. It basically said that it would depend on the specific vaccine so it knows but can't say the full truth. I just asked it this ( What ingredients was used in the Pfizer jab and what sort of based ingredient was each 1 used ) it turns out it is virtually the same as the Moderna vaccine. If you ask the Ai n just change the Pfizer to Moderna or any other vaccine it will or should provide you with the answers. 1 other part to add which l found through the Ai telling me about side affects that was only meant to have any affect up to half hour l can't go near hamsters or other rodents because l now suffer from Anaphylaxis.

Just booked flu and covid jabs for me and her indoors. Our surgery was offering both together but I've never been comfortable with that although neither of us has ever had an adverse reaction to either vaccine (other than a mildly stiff arm for a day or so) so I've booked the covid jab with the pharmacy and the flu jab at the surgery 10 days later.

We never had the Astra Zeneca vaccine. By the time it was rolled out to us they were offering the Pfizer mRNA and more recently the Moderna which, as Marc says, is essentially the same although tweaked for more recent mutations. For all the criticism of the Astra Zeneca it did go through the full certification testing, did have the great advantage that it only needed to be kept in a fridge unlike the mRNA versions which needed storage in liquid Nitrogen and undoubtedly saved millions of lives in third world countries. Add to that it was provided virtually at cost so I don't think they have anything to be ashamed about.

Maybe some people don't like it because it was developed in record time by a team of women. :whistling:

Very sad update:

Today 16th December 2021 my 52 year old nephew "Andrew" has died of blood clots in the lungs caused as a result of the Booster Vaccination. He was a nice guy and thought he was doing the right thing and doing as he was told by those who know best. His death is to be recorded as Covid19 complications.

Andrew leaves behind his partner, daughter, son, and grandchildren as well as his Father and 3 brothers. - RIP

I have no idea of who created it, l can say that at first l had no adverse reactions to it, my other half had the dead arm from it me nope nothing, but l have had 2 of the supposed short term reactions ( numonia ) which the the lung docs constantly kept asking me if l worked with them at all ( spent about 5 mins at most in avery with parrots if that and still do now with 1 of my jobs no problems ever since, and I now suffer from the high allergic reaction of rodents ( I've nearly stopped breathing just because l held 1 😂 ) l can laugh it was me.. but seriously l even stopped smoking due to the numonia problem it's not like l can pick up a ***** n start again either my body now rejects nicotine itself I've tried the tapes and gum same reactions nearly puke, but yet l can stand in a room full of smoke breath it in n not be bothered by it at all, l even used to get headache from the smell of the cannabis skunk weed even if it was very light smell of it now nothing. This is all well after the supposed time line of after affects and I've been the kind of kid who never had jabs played around dumped chemicals as a kid and basically never ended up at doctors for anything the worst l know l had was German measles as a kid. Never had the booster at secondary. When it comes down to it those who decide to get jabs take there own risk ( l n my family did under false pretence ) but neither side should or should have decide if anyone will have it, if you didn't take it then good on you if you did n survived like a lot of us then good on you too the government's plan didn't work on everyone. But in the end it was massively wrong for all those who refused and lost there job for it especially now as it was only proven to be an improved version of the flu and nothing more.
