My Mondeo is a soft ride with suspension and 16in rims. I do 14mile trips to and from work at 30-50mph. No issues with the dpf. It's a manual as I don't like autos. Downside is 65mpg 😂😂😂 and not the most reliable at 95k miles ( water pump failure, expensive thermostat leaking )

I can only dream on doing 14 mile trips now...  I live 2 miles from Tesco and 5 miles from Sainsbury's.  That's about the furthest I go now!

It's all town driving as well.  Haven't been on a dual carriageway since March.

In fairness, I haven't seen the DPF light come on ever...but it's trying to regen every week in town traffic.

Must admit, I've been surprised to hear so many car people say they don't like autos since I bought one...why didn't I know this before?

  • Yeah, this is why I make a lot of posts but don't generally make threads! I'm terrible at taking advice, keep changing my mind and doubting myself constantly... There is some good news tho

  • Toms-tranny or trannytom😂😂😂😂

  • Something a little less boring with compliant suspension. 😂😂😂

Haha some of these modern SUV’s you definitely have to climb up into! Even me!

The best car I've had from a purely driving standpoint was my 2008 w204 C class, it had a lot of tech but it was passive, not active.  It never tried to think for me.

Tom do you have to change soon?  I very much think you should drive the different versions.  The end of Covid is coming.

I love auto. I'd never go back.

I also think that the mk8 Fiesta is a better car than the MK4 Focus.  Controversial! 😄

Better not let my Mrs read that or I'm in the doghouse 😮

I would agree too , the fiesta is a better car than the focus.

I third the motion of the Fiesta being better!

The Fiesta Active I had for 6 weeks was a lot of fun to drive, even on a 600 mile round trip to Staffordshire (pre Covid) but I was glad to get my Titanium back because it is a lot more refined overall.

Yeah, due to slightly confusing circumstances, I will need to change as soon as I can get rid of the Leon.  I already have a buyer for the Golf as well.

This isn't caused by Covid though, I never have been able to deal with people or test drive cars...last car I drove before buying was the Mk2.5 Focus back in 2014, only made it half a mile before anxiety and nausea took over.  Obviously not long enough to actually test anything so essentially I bought that blind anyway lol.  Covid has just been the last straw for my issues, I could at least get to a dealership before then, but can't now.  It's going to take months once covid ends to get back to a 'manageable' point mentally, and I just have to hope that eases the physical issues a bit as well...  Although I'm not known for my positivity and optimism, I'm really hoping the 'right' car helps with that.  The last time I was anywhere near as bad as I am now was when I had the Vectra due to it's poor ride and lack of reliability.

I also agree the Fiesta is a more fun car...but I'm not after fun.  Even 4 years ago I couldn't drive the Mk6 ST far...and my guts have worsened considerably since.  I basically just want a luxury living room that teleports to different locations.  I did want something that looked interesting this time though, rather than another Match or Titanium.  Was hoping to go to local car shows again (I've always had to park outside and walk in so far) but I can't see myself getting to any shows next year now anyway.

Not fun so much as better value and a nicer ride.  It's very compliant and the Fiesta is amazingly roomy for a small car.

Yes, inclined to agree with Guy there. Comparing your old Mk 6 ST with a Mk 8 is apples and pears.

Lots of comments on various threads on here about how refined people have found their Mk 8s, not just by supermini standards, but compared to other cars in general.

I find my Fiesta easier to drive over long distances than my old MK2. A Vignale may very well be a good choice, or a Titanium X.

Yes vignale has all the spec just no auto.

The current version has the 7 speed DCT on the 125ps, prior to that it was the 6 speed slush box on the 100ps, but I think Tom's gone off the auto idea anyway!😃

If you get a car via Ford Direct (not approved used) you get 2 years warranty. They've not got any Vignales anyways!

The most comfy car I ever had was a Citroen BX back in the 90's!

Just had a look and found a couple. It seems to depend how you set your search parameters.

Yes, that Citoen BX was a lovely comfy car, friend of mine had one for years.

Agreed but the CX was in another league again and I just know that I shall never have such a comfortable car ever again but the Mk8 Fiesta is very good.

A friends family had a grey BX for a lot of years, Known as the Tank. Probably still running for someone somewhere!

My left leg and arm want an auto...my brain doesn't.

It's a shame Citroen don't make proper comfy cars with air suspension any more.  I looked at the DS3 when I was looking for DV6 powered cars but the ride was too firm on them unfortunately.

As for the Mk8 being more refined...anyone want to lend me one for a week?  Don't think I can risk actually buying one...ride doesn't look great on paper!  They do look nice though, there's an old guy with a Mk8 Vignale that regularly parks next to me in Sainsbury's.  Always think he's taking a chance parking next it to a battered old Golf!  Better than a people carrier with child seats I suppose.

C4 Cactus is very comfy I find, but the looks are divisive. I’d give you mine but a) I need it and b) it’s an ST-Line so no good anyway XD

Plus the DS3 has a shocking reputation for poor reliability (Mainly the electrics)

Focus march 19, before the hybrid engines

And Fiesta the same.

Note you can extend the warranty for up to 5 years old.

The missus Active, shows the ride height.  Yes it is on 18s but they are not that low profile and they make less of a difference than the suspension IMO.  It is a good ride.

Also before this she had a Trend, both Mk8s.  The seats in the Active are much better, side and lumbar support but not constrictive.
