How To: Focus MK3 pre-facelift SYNC 1 to SYNC 3 upgrade for late 2012, 2013 and 2014 models

also the chinese have actually started to make good harnesses, you could just purchase this harness as it's a sync1 to sync3 harness and i've had multiple people come to me saying it works. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005006356770462.html

I Purchased the chinese harness and have installed it. Everything is working correctly except for the revesing camera. When I put the car in reverse, the sync 3 system recognises it is in reverse but I get no camera image ( I first get a blue screen with a cross in the top left and then the screen goes black with a camera error message). I used the fakra to rca adaptor to link the oem camera cable to the new harness, but cannot get it to work. I did some research on this forum and some people stated that their car had extra wires on the oem acm connector and when they removed the connector on the back of the acm, the camera would work. I tried this, but still no change. Can anyone suggest a fix, it is the only thing not working.

Use the ChipEx website - enter a reg for a quote and the VIN is in the address bar.

  • I create my own looms from scratch that will upgrade you to sync3 from sync1. give us a private message and I can sell you one

  • Still working on trying to find a solution to the VIN. If its possible (UK gov. doing everything to make it impossible) I will know in a couple of days.

Have you connected the camera power to an ignition live supply ?

It sounds like the camera is just not switched on.

It Should be connected to power, the rear collision sensors work and I believe the camera and sensors are on the same harness?

Yes it is.

i would say grab a multimeter and check if there is continuity going from the rca to the correct pins 14/15

are you sure you plugged in the camera? it's a biege connector if i recall correctly, can you take a pic of what you did?

It was the beige connector I connected to. I used the following and connected it to the female rca connector on the chinese harness.

I was also able to connect an aftermarket camera directly to the female rca and got a blurred black and white picture on the screen.image.thumb.jpg.386e60782b3dd542ebe793e31047b0ac.jpg

Can I ask a question.

If I live in Australia and own a 2012 LWII Ford Focus ST which is sync 1 and built in Oct 2012. What is the best car to get an "As built" file to use in mine after upgrading to sync 3. The replacement screen, apim and ACM I have used were all out of a 2017 ford focus titanium (Don't know if that matters)

I will check those pins as soon as possible. Is there a setting in forscan for the oem reversing camera? I thought that maybe there is an incorrect setting for it there.

I originally thought that maybe I had a blown fuse for the camera. But it seems that the reversing camera and the rear collision sensors run off the same fuse, and they are working correctly.

Pins are correct. I installed the "as built"  from a 2017 ST before I connected the reversing camera. Could that have caused a problem. Do I need to reinstall the "as built" file again.

interesting, well i never use a asbuilt import i just edit the configuration myself.

i would say check if the transmission type is manual or automatic (depending on your car) in the apim forscan module configuration

don't use asbuilt, just go through apim configuration non-asbuilt and use the drop down menus

and check transmission there

Sorry, I worded it wrong. Those settings are what's in the car now.

I have had the harness checked. The rca connector wiring on the new harness is OK, but the oem reverse camera does not work. I have connected an aftermarket camera to the rca connector and that works. We disconnected the cable from the oem camera and found that there is no 12v power, its like the camera isn'treceiving any lin information. Attached is the apim configuration non-asbuilt. Can anyone see something wrong.

After reading threads on another forum. People are saying there, that I might need to replace the camera power module (start-stop module) behind the obd2 port. The module needs to have Ax in the last 2 letters of part number for it to work. If the last 2 letters are Bx, then it will not work. Has anyone got any comments.

Will an oem 2013 sync 1 ford focus ST reversing camera work work with a 2017 sync 3 head unit?

No.

That was an easy question to answer 🤔

If I purchase a replacement camera for a 2015 to 2018 model, is the anything else I need to replace for it to work (other than changes in forscan)

Do you have all the wiring for the reverse camera in place ?

Yes, the 2013 ST came with factory reversing camera. I have converted sync 1 to sync 3 but reversing camera does not work.

  • 1 month later...

A bit late to the game but the factory fitted Sync 1 reversing camera does work with Sync 3. It just needs coding in, and some ASBUILT changes to get the dynamic parking lines working.

Hello friends.

I'm new here and I'm going through a translator, so sorry.

I have a Focus 2013 EU MK3 2.0 TDCi/120 kW. I switched from Sync1 to Sync3....and here's a problem :-D

Problem number 1: my parking sensors don't beep

Problem number 2: the original Ford rear camera doesn't work from the factory/only a black screen is activated. I have the wiring from PL company Komorowski and they tell me that everything must work. I think I have everything set up correctly, I use Forscan and I also have a one-year license.

I would be happy to help.

Hi, could you please show how you made the "blank button" functional? That's the last thing I have to make on this upgrade. PM if you prefer .
