Pictures as promised. You can see in one what I mean by the DAB stations not showing...

Use the ChipEx website - enter a reg for a quote and the VIN is in the address bar.

  • I create my own looms from scratch that will upgrade you to sync3 from sync1. give us a private message and I can sell you one

  • Still working on trying to find a solution to the VIN. If its possible (UK gov. doing everything to make it impossible) I will know in a couple of days.

All swapped in the end (get a screwdriver in the tab and twist worked for me). Coding has fixed everything I was struggling with apart from the station lists. I think this will require a new ACM to get working properly but maybe someone could confirm?

Would I lose the centre speaker if I replaced the ACM?

Anyway, aside from this everything is working well now and am very happy with the retrofit. Particularly like the way Google maps and other navigation app instructions are shown on the instrument cluster as well as the centre screen.

I did also find I had to downgrade the sync version to an earlier build of 3.4 whereby there is a auto dim toggle. This got rid of any flickering I was experiencing.

Another point to make is that my harness was 100% correct and didn't need any modification at all. Even included the usb cables for the new hub.

If anyone has any questions etc I'll do my best to help.

Did you have to do any wiring to get the central locking button on your Sony bezel to work or was it just a straight plug in? Although I've put in place a workaround using the blank button, having a proper working central locking button would be better!

On the harness I purchased which seemed to be the same one linked here but the eBay version, it was simply plug and play. Honestly in terms of wiring couldn't have been any easier.

Hello!

I am new here and have rebuilt my vehicle according to the instructions, it worked better than I thought.
I used a wiring harness from Aliexpress, I still have a few problems and questions, my vehicle is a 2014 Focus with premium sound package including subwoofer.
the following works:

- APIM comes on, sat nav works as far as i can tell
- Adjust steering wheel controls for volume and transmitter. Is not inverted as described here
-Radio works as well as CD playback

What does not work:

- Music from USB stick without sound, stick is recognized and songs are played (progress bar grows), but no sound
- Phone calls: Microphone works, I can be heard. However, I can't hear any sound from the other person, not even a dial tone
- Music from Bluetooth the same, no sound

Special feature: My radio had 2 connections, the one from the subwoofer is a bit thicker and doesn't fit the wiring harness, but it's fine. But could it be that a plug is missing somehow? There are also two connections in the new radio. From the adapter, one plug fits into the radio, but the female plug remains empty as nothing comes from the car.

Does anyone have any ideas?
Is the plug left empty and it's a programming error?

I've already written to Rowan for a custom wiring harness, I think he's on vacation.

Thanks already!

Regards,

Dingo

Upgrade done, used my old ACM and everything works right now!

  • 1 month later...

Hi guys, I'm resuming my shopping on the missing parts...

So today I've bought the "european" fascia (I know I will miss the lock/unlock button, but i'll take the empy place near the "park button").

I've also bought the harness (on ebay).

I'm just trying to find the usb hub and it's bezel... but not sure about the one I need... Anybody would have a link? (with the finis code, my ford dealer can't find it... and on ebay, the finis codes are not usable)

Thanks in advance, regards.

Hello, how did you setup as builts data when use old ACM?

Hi I’ve done the upgrade from sync 1 to 3 on my 2014 focus titanium navigator everything works ok but can’t get the hands free to work no sound from speakers and the other person can’t hear me

ive tried charging some bits on forscan  someone please help

hello!

i didn't have to set anything, it just worked. i simply updated the relevant components in forscan. not via codes but via the dropdown fields in plain text.
the hands-free system then also worked for me without any problems.
i had also bought another radio, but had the premium plug, which didn't fit the new radio. so i just tried my old one and it worked.
what doesn't work is the display of the parking sensors in the sync system, otherwise everything actually works for me without having to change much in forscan.

Can you instruct me to connect the turn signal switch on both sides and the door lock switch to this mask?

did you buy it from ebay?, how much is this one?

i bought a wiring harness from alieexpress, which included the connections for your panel. however, i installed the panel from the european facelift model. my panel doesn't have a button for locking, which means i didn't connect the remaining cables.
the locking mechanism now works automatically when I drive off.
I don't need the locking button.
did you also use a cable adapter?

Hello, could you send link of the harness

i think so, i still use the connection for the orifice plate as before and it works, just without the lock as there is no button on my orifice plate.

with the wiring harness, the cable from the vehicle should then end in two plugs, which then fit into the panel.

it is best to contact the supplier to find out whether everything fits.

Is there any way to find out how much storage the APIM has? I'm planning to buy Sync 3 APIM and the touchscreen, but the APIMs that I keep finding on eBay, etc., don't tell me how much storage they have.

Try find your serial number here https://cyanlabs.net/fhub/sync3/hw-db/

Hi guys, I now have all the parts to do the upgrade (except 1) the usb trim and hub but, for the moment, it will be OK with my Sync1 USB hub, and 2) a GPS fakra antena, but I'll use my Sync1 and see if it works).

So, as I have the European Sync3 fascia, I'll lose the "door lock" switch..., and I have 3 solutions to keep it..

1)program the "automatic lock" in forscan...mmm well, why not but what if I wait in the car, ignition of, and I want to close the doors (for example, if I drive madam somewhere, and wait in the car)

2) buy a new button and put in on the central console (should make a hole, and...not a big fan of it)🤔

3) use the "hidden" button on the climate controle panel...Don't reaaly know hot to do it (seen some pictures of the back ot this panel...and well, I'm lost on this modification...).🙄 if anyone has done it and can share some pictures...

So now, the only thing is to take some time to do the upgrade, test if everything works, and ask for some help here if I need some forscan programing.

Stay tuned ☺️, my Focus will celebrate it's 10th aniversary with this Sync 3 🎂

I recommend finding the USA fascia that includes the door lock and hazard button.

I’m also preparing to upgrade my old Sync 1 system to Sync 3. The only parts I still need are the APIM, touchscreen, and USB hub.

I’ve heard that I can reuse the existing GPS in my car and connect it to the new APIM. Do you have any advice on where I could find affordable APIM and touchscreen options?

@nhatientri is it better to have a My20 device, or should I go for an APIM without My20?

And what ist the Difference  between 14G370 apim  and 14G371 apim ?

  • 3 weeks later...

Hi guys, I'm preparing for the upgrade, as I've got all the parts needed... But I have a silly question when I look at my harness...

1 - So, here I'm OK, the big connector on the APIM, I will connect my car "old Sync1 connector" to it (if i'm correct)

IMG_20241026_093616.thumb.jpg.1ef5a255cdf76858cdcc7e1504bb903c.jpg

2 - the USB cable and the connector that goes to the USB hub are OK

IMG_20241026_093622.thumb.jpg.c8de9194dfa1ac8f84bb97d6f70626a6.jpg

3 - This little connector is the one on which I'll connect from the Sync1 old screen , if I'm correct?

IMG_20241026_093638.thumb.jpg.0632c3dcc27d37bcb80b03cf07574ea5.jpg

4 - Those ones are from my "old fascia" to the new one (loosing the door lock, as I bought the european fascia)

IMG_20241026_093709.thumb.jpg.409e15b9b4c3ee26f4bd778b89c94774.jpg

5- But, where I'm afraid is here... connecting on the ACM... as the back of my ACM has 2 connectors, and my "upgrade harness" only one... (am I missing something? Or I'm just stupid and it's the "power" connector from my car? )

IMG_20241026_093604.thumb.jpg.5e31e1322ce6f8f738808a33d39295e6.jpg

I've just try to see how it works in my home before going to my car... don't want to loose time if something is wrong on my harness 🤔

The lights , from you guys who already ugraded from Sync1 to Sync3, will be highly appreciated 🤗

Cheers

Update from this after lunch!

1 - Sync3 stuff is all installed in my car (everything plugged, usb dual hub , euro fascia with the little adjustment needed).

2 - Programming on Focccus is done

3 - fisrt test, audio is OK (USB or radio), voice command seems to work (I hear the voice), bluetooth Ok too (I called myself to leave a message on my phone -> I can hear myself clear, and I also heard the vocie saying "your correspondant is not available, please leave a message😁 )

4 - nav seems to fail ! "navigation fault" message. The car can't localize me where I am. (didn't test with Android auto). I use my Sync 1 antenna, and I think it's plugged correctly)

5 - I've lost my parking sensors (front and rear), my rear camear (aftermarket one), and surely my "semi auto parallel parking (aka SAPP) "

Not big issues , as I was expecting those... So I'll need some help to fine program things not working at the moment.

And now, pictures!!

Before, with Sync1

IMG_20241026_112448.thumb.jpg.2365c82d782de8cb2b396737df6ae79f.jpg

Now, with Sync3

(I took back the air vents from my Sync1 fascia, there in better look than the ones of the new fascia, and they have a little chrome part on the middle)

IMG_20241026_130134.thumb.jpg.35941b73a1448197b9a7114b3d2ff1ad.jpg

It makes the car younger than it is🤩

Now, let's see for some halp in the programing

Cheers

Hi guys, hope you're fine on this saturday😉 (yep, it's me again, Greg from France).

After a success in installing all the parts in my car (except the GPS antenna.. my Sync1 seems faulty), I've tried programming to make Sync3 totally OK, but... I've lost my haed and it's a FAIL...

So...

What's OK : audio, and bluetooth (USB is OK, radio is OK, phone calls are OK, voice command is OK, sterring wheel controls are OK)

What's NOK :

1 - GPS signal (seems to be my Sync1 fakra antenna - will buy a new one

2 - CD player : can't put a CD in (seems to be the opening of the fascia not aligned with the opening of my ACM?  - not the most important issue at this time)

3 - No beep from my front/rear sensors, no image from my non OEM camera, and no Semi Auto Parallel Park - hope it's just a coding issue bt I've tried to find where is the mistake, failed...

Strange thing is that some lines are not writable to edit them in the APIM ASbuilt configuration.

Looking at the AS built of my "donor car", here's what I've got (and don't know what's wrong or need fine coding)

configdonneuse.thumb.JPG.0268c924274c3c4da1a0cafa2c851f0f.JPG

The 3 lines with the orange arrows are related to the "parking" side of the APIM (according to what I've found on cyanlabs)

7D0-01-01 is not writable, but, as the x*xx-xxxx-xxxx, the * is set to B, it says :

B=Parking Sensor Display Enabled, Camera Enabled, DC HMI Enabled, Illumination FoE

so it should be OK?

7D0-02-02 is not writable, and in the xxxx-*xxx-xxxx, the * is set to 0 (should be 2 instead? )

0=DS Off, RSS Not Present, PDCA CGEA 1.3, TCU Not Present

2=DS Off, RSS Not Present, PDCA CIMCA, TCU Not Present

(related to Parking Distance Control Architecture... CGEA is for US cars? )

7D0-04-02 is writable, the xx**-xx is set to 07 (instead of 05) as my Focus is Front/rear sensors and SAPP, setting to 05 doesn't help...

05=Front/Rear PDC SAPP (EU HMI)

07=Rear/Front PDC with APA (12 Sensors) (APA + SAAP + PPA + POA)

So... what the hell am I doing wrong in the coding, what am I missing?

Big thanks to JPW who made this thread, big thanks to every one here who always have kind words to help newbies making this upgrade working. (And sorry for the ones I've MP before installing everything... might PM you again to try to find help and solution 🤐 )

Hope I'll find the solution (don't want to revert back to Sync 1)

Here's what Rowan suggested for me which brought my SAPP back

Quote

for parking sensors go to apim asbuilt

7D0-02-02 xxxx-*xxx-xxxx

change * to 2

as for the beeps - I'm not sure - I know when upgrading the instrument cluster to facelift you lose the beeps but for your situation I would guess the error lies in the BCM config / central config as that should tell it where to route the parking sensor audio IIRC. It's been a while since I looked at this.

Thanks  @dontpannic

But as stated earlier, this  7D0-02-02 xxxx-*xxx-xxxx  seems to be non writable in my APIM asbuilt in ForScan... can't find out why...

So I'm totally in front of a wall and can't climb it up☹️

For the beeps, they would be "mute"? Try to find something in the BCM so...fingers crossed.
