How To: Focus MK3 pre-facelift SYNC 1 to SYNC 3 upgrade for late 2012, 2013 and 2014 models

Featured Replies

'morning everybody, hope you're fine today 🙂

Well, this morning I went to the office, driving my Focus. Testing my Sync3 upgrade (audio ok, etc).

And guess what... when reversing on the parking.. "beep beep" whaaaat?? I couldn't believe...

This week-end, when I tested, I dind't drive front or back, I was just stationnary on my parking lot, and maybe battery not strong enough (I read somewhere that there could be a battery economy strategy on some cars, disabliing some functions... ) But hey, front and rear sensors beep perfectly.

My SAPP still doesn't work (I made a quick test in a street thos morning, not far from the office), but well, I used it 3 times in 4 years I have the car...)

And I've noticed that, when I lock my car, the screen stays active a little too long for me (the "shut off" delay can be changed I think? )

So, I still have to solve the dispaly of the sensors on the screen. And will have to solve this 7D0-02-02 xxxx-*xxx-xxxx that I can not edit...If someone have a clue...

Still to test, nav with Android auto (test this on the road to home, this afternoon).

Still to solve, buying a new fakra antenna for the integrated nav.

Stay tuned😊

Use the ChipEx website - enter a reg for a quote and the VIN is in the address bar.

  • I create my own looms from scratch that will upgrade you to sync3 from sync1. give us a private message and I can sell you one

  • Still working on trying to find a solution to the VIN. If its possible (UK gov. doing everything to make it impossible) I will know in a couple of days.

Hi, I also upgraded my Sync 1 to Sync 3 this weekend, just like you 😄. Unfortunately, some things aren’t working:

Navigation: No voice prompts for turns.

PDC (Park Distance Control): It’s audible, but the lines are missing on the screen.

Auto Park Assist: No longer visible on the display.

Steering Wheel Controls: Not working.

Sound and Balance Settings: Don’t save permanently. Treble, bass, and mids always jump back to max on the right, and the same happens with balance and fader settings.

Do you happen to have the full version of Forscan? That might be the reason you can’t change certain code lines. I was also advised not to use the FoCCCus program as it can cause issues. I used it myself and had problems with my Active City Stop module for a day.

Sad to read that you have "non working" features.

On my side, I only used Focccus to disable the bluetooth and other things from Sync1 and also tell my car that now, it's an 8 inch screen.

Still testing my car. Will buy a new antenna for the GPS when my salary arrives.

Navigation: waiting to buy my new antenna

PDC (Park Distance Control): It’s audible, but the lines are missing on the screen for me too

Auto Park Assist: visible on the display, and audible.(changed a number in the 7D0-04-02 asbulit line). tested this morning, but I stopped when my rear wheel touched the pavement . Will test another time.

Steering Wheel Controls: working for me

Rear "non OEM" camera : not working, not visible on display (was OK on my Sync1)

Door lock button : don't have (cause European radio trim), activated "auto lock when driving"

On several parameters, I can see (on the APIM easy mod config) camera is enabled... but not displayed on the screen...

The paid forscan license would allow me to edit that famous line on which one I can't write? (worth trying, it's not that expensive).

Hi all, hope you're fine.

@dontpannic for the editing of the 7D0-02-02 xxxx-*xxx-xxxx (which seems to be related to the displaying of the camera view/parking sensors), do you have the paid license of ForScan?

@Sukru92 the missing voice and other audio things seem to be related to the ACM?

Tested again my auto parking.

First try, on a ***** parking place (but the car said OK, there's enough space) -> the rear wheel hit the pavement, so I aborted the try;

Second try, a bigger place -> auto park OK! 🤗

@Gregfocusi can upload you an actual apim asbuilt if you want to try it maybe your audio Problem could be fixed. Which year is your focus and does your pdc is now visible if u put the reverse gear in it. ?

@Sukru92 hi mate!

I don't have audio issue (since the beginning of the upgrade everything related to audio works OK for me).

Last week-end I've changed my GPS antenna. First , I still had the "navigation fault" message, but the map displayed, localizing me at the exact place in my city. The day after, I took the car for a drive, navigation was OK without any message.

I managed to edit the 7D0-02-02 xxxx-*xxx-xxxx and now I have the parking sensor diagram displaying on the screen (with the green/amber/red colors when approaching obstacles).

The only thing NOK is my rear camera. Don't have neither a blue screen (as when camera is activated but not connected), or anything else...

It's enabled in APIM easy mode... and don't know what to edit to have it working.

Maybe "disable" it in the BCM using Focccus? (like some options related to sync 1 that needed to be disabled?  - my reverse camera is a non OEM, I made the upgrade on my sync1 a few months after buying the car)

Once again, a massive thank you to the creator of this thread, to the ones who experienced issues and managed to solve them, giving us many many tips and advices to make this great upgrade!

I have a pre-configured APIM as-built file that triggers the rear camera/blue screen. I can upload it if you want to try it out. The funny thing is, I don't have a rear camera, but it still triggers the blue screen, and after 2 seconds, it says 'No camera available.' However, I ordered a camera from AliExpress, so I’m leaving it enabled.

I had already tried a few settings, but unfortunately, without success due to the PDC.

Did you have Sync 2 or Sync 1 before? And which value did you use for the 7D0-02-02 xxxx-Xxxx-xxxx setting?

- i would not use foCCCus as i mentioned earlier. Just go in forscan and go in the ccmain Config. U can edit there the same variables.

@Sukru92 hi,

My focus is a pre face lift mk3, from september 2014 (from the very very last pre face lift), and was originaly equiped with Sync1 (without camera).

I changes 7D0-02-02 from xxxx-0xxx-xxxx to xxxx-2xxx-xxxx and then, my radars displayed on the screen. (even if I didn't have the "write" button on the line, I was able to change the value and save it.

I also changed 7D0-04-02 from xx07-xx to 05xx-xx to have my "auto parking" working

No problem to try your pre config asbuilt for the APIM (as I also have the one from the Sync3 donor car, I will be able to revert to the config that actually works on my car (except for the camera)

And early in the morning, when I went to the office, parking on my parking lot

IMG_20241112_063738.thumb.jpg.21f36f4db626e411e890694df7b88296.jpg

Didn't look at the CCmain menu for the moment, to try to solve my camera issue.

@Gregfocus

Thank you im gonna try your settings for the PDC an hope its gonna work.

i just need to update my Sync 3 to the latest Update 3.4 and update the Maps.

i have send u an PM 😉

@Sukru92

Fingers crossed for you to make your PDC work.

Thanks for the PM.

Will also update to 3.4 and last map version using cyanlabs updater.

Stay tuned.

Hello, How do I connect to prelift sync2 if it has no socket, output for GPS antenna?

Hi guys,

thanks to @Sukru92 (a big big thank you) I managed to activate the display of my reverse camera.

But, the image is so greyish... I thought it was because the camera was dirty but ..; still the same after I cleaned it... so it's something else, but what?? (maybe the type of camera ?  or a parameter somewhere...) (and yes, the image is that bad, even day or night)

IMG_20241118_063312.thumb.jpg.e470ef755a1cb1e663edc48842a9dec9.jpg

Funny thing with the asbuilt file @Sukru92 sent me, is the different color for each icon menu (audio, phone, nav, apps, settings) (with my asbuilt, all were blue)

IMG_20241118_063332.thumb.jpg.4c63e32571b8e68caaf6f2bc631ae872.jpg

IMG_20241118_063338.thumb.jpg.d7ca48c07bfec6e05c01e9f11a00014d.jpg

IMG_20241118_063344.thumb.jpg.346a1785cedc650179097d058c5f65f0.jpg

So now, everything is nearly OK, except the camera image...

Will have to upgrade to sync 3.4... but as it seems to be long (from 3.0, upgrading to 3.4 with the map version... is it possible to... firstly upgarde to 3.4 with the same map version I actually have, and secondly, upgrade only the map? )

If I have to do all at once, i'll do this when dring back from work to home (1 hour of driving)

Cheers guys!

Do you have a PAL or NTSC camera? Can you send me a picture of your current AsBuilt configuration from FORScan? I will check—maybe you can change the region on the APIM to adjust how it detects the camera. That could be the issue, mate.

You could try to change this parameter  7D0-01-01 : xXxx-xxxx-xxxx to xAxx-xxxx-xxxx

No problem 😊, I help where I can.

I would recommend updating everything—version 3.4, the latest updates, etc.

Hi @Sukru92

I've upgraded to Sync 3.4 last tuesday, and wow, what a change! (quite easy to do, following cyanlabs tutorials)

For my camera, it seems to be a NTSC camera (according to the description I've found in the history of my orders on ebay). Could it be the issue, a NTSC camera on a PAL system, or a PAL camera on a NTSC system?

For the moment, 7D0-01-01 : xXxx-xxxx-xxxx is set to xBxx-xxxx-xxxx (Parking Sensor Display Enabled, Camera Enabled, DC HMI Enabled, Illumination FoE), I'll try to set it to xAxx-xxxx-xxxx (Parking Sensor Display Enabled, Camera Enabled, DC HMI Enabled, Illumination FNA)

I'll send you a picture of my APIM parameters when I'll be back fromp the office.

And for my CD player issue... it was a silly issue... as I've got a "euro" radio fascia ... with the hazars switch below the CD player...the cable runs from the top of the player to the connector at the bottom, and is right in the middle of the player slot... so you can't put a CD in the player...😅 (you don't have this issue on the US fascia, as the hazard switch is on top)

So I ran the cable on the side (as it's long enough), and it's all OK with my CD player🤣

Back from work, and @Sukru92 here is the config of my APIM

maconfigAPIM.thumb.JPG.259ae47026031af4a38a5e7923806129.JPG

I've tried setting 7D0-01-01 : xXxx-xxxx-xxxx to xAxx-xxxx-xxxx, and still the same "grey" image.

So, for the moment, I've disabled my rear camera, don't really need it (I took the screenshot before disabling it)

One thing I've noticed when I checked my connections is that one leg of the RCA is a little bent... don't know if that could cause the issue...

If the grey picture dont goes away with the changed settings it could be the bent rca cable. You mean the yellow rca connrctor ?

Hi @Sukru92 hope you're fine.

For the grey image... as I told, I disabled the camera for the moment. The front/rear sensors are enough (the camera is juste a bonus, the cherry on the cake)

I'll try to see if I can have another RCA cable (a cable extension).

The part damaged is the one in the red circle below (picture for illustration only). Don't know if this can really be the cause of the issue... Or maybe simply my camera (4 years old).

Or... a Sync 3.4 version issue? (some versions caused that kind of image...)

Have you installed your rear camera?

image.jpeg.e72ce3e0f8006447e998da5d13c735e1.jpeg

Hmm 🤔 it could be that part. Did you try moving the cable while the reverse cam is on to see if the gray image goes away?

I didn't connect the camera. I really don't know whether I should go through the car under the floor or inside the roof 😅

But before I install the cam, I want to test it to make sure that it works and doesn't have any problems.

I don't think that your camera is too old. Which harness did you buy? Or did you splice up your old sync 1 cable and do it like in the tutorial?

But before you install a new cable again through the whole car, buy a new camera from AliExpress and check if that also outputs a gray image.

Can you send me the link to the camera you bought?

Hi @Sukru92 , nope, didn't try to move the cable when the image is on. I'll try this during the week-end (won't be home, but my laptop will be with me, so I'll be able to test different things, as I'll be working on a friend's car).

To make the cable go through the car, it's not that hard (the most difficult part is to go through the part between the trunk and the roof), and you'll need to go both under the roof and inside the floor (I'll try to make you pictures to show where my cable goes)

I'm waiting to see your camera 😊(which one did you buy? a PAL or NTSC?)

For the harness, I bought that one -> Plug n play harness Sync1 to Sync3 conversion

For the camera, i bought that one -> Camera with trunk handle

I'll buy a new camera and try it (but there are parts to dismantle just to install the new camera, like the boot lining, and other things... so... It's not that urgent, as I don't have a garage, it's a little boring on my parking lot)

I bought this cam, should be an NTSC Cam😊

https://a.aliexpress.com/_EudktN3

And this harness:

https://a.aliexpress.com/_EGoiSW1

It would really be nice if you could send me pictures how you connected the cables through the cam.😁

You still have the Colored Theme with 3.4 ?

It seems to be same harness as the one I bought on ebay.

And the camera looks identical too.

Nope, no more multicolored theme with 3.4, I have the default theme.

No problem, I'll try to take pictures on saturday if I have the time (I'll have the place).

Just hope it won't rain 😁

Hi @Sukru92 , hope you're fine.

I managed to dismantle my trunk lid. And also to make the test "camera enabled/camera disconected". I have a black/blue screen when the camera is not connected.

IMG_20241130_151500.thumb.jpg.543dca6e3b18f632792f255fc4e38896.jpg

For the camera connection, here's how I did it.

-passed the cable into the rubber part (between the top of the trunk, and the roof)

passecable.thumb.JPG.eaa2cf641889e3dab9b691b64ca1bb47.JPG

- connected the ground to the 12V socket in the trunk

IMG_20241130_154710.thumb.jpg.d987244dc8ecf73c4bcf9c1ea46721f9.jpg

- connect the + to this "double fuse" cable (I hade to make it longer than it was...) in the fuse box under the glove box, to the wiper fuse (that way, I have an "after igniton +"

IMG_20200831_192010.thumb.jpg.676be6799de977f9e28f1ebd5496d206.jpg

Hope it helps you. I know I could have made it more simple (connecting to the fuse box in the trunk..)

Have a good week-end

Cheers

  • 2 weeks later...

Dear all, I have a question before I start the project.

now my old acm is dead( with 10 speaker version)

can I buy a F1BT18C815-ZAM to replace the old one?

My old one is bm5t-18c815-nj/g, with one big black connector and one big grey connector for subwoofer and sync1 stuff.

the F1BT18C815-ZAM/H has 2 big black connectors and 1 small connector for the subwoofer.

My problem is I only have one black connector from the car or the deeps in the car to the old ACM

but for the new ACM, I need 2  black connectors, where is the 2nd from the car?

Have you got any photos?

I'm using an F1BT-18C815-ZAH with subwoofer plug in my 2013 with Sync 3 retrofit.

The Sync 1 ACM and Sync 3 ACM have the same plugs so should be a straight swap for your current ACM.

image.png.b4beada28095bfc640e65770193e9f2b.pngthis is zam,

image.png.70b99ac2b7713c3e8b5100ae88f15735.pngthis is bm5t-18c815-nj/g.

one small black connector is missing on the bm5t.

As far as I know, the grey connector is for sync, Bluetooth, aux, and subwoofer. So I have no idea how to get the second small black connector to the new acm
