New Sync 3 and Map updates available on Ford account website

Featured Replies

Did the SYNC update yesterday (3.4.21020), it took about 25mins, restarted while I was driving, then after about 5mins said 'COMPLETE'. Removed USB stick, checked I had the log file.

Uploaded log file today, and I am now downloading a 22G Map update!

All good so far.

Map update will be done next Thursday (another 1hr trip to make + return).

I’m glad it’s not just me.

I updated the sync 3 from the Ford website. No issues.

Then did all the Map updates Over Wi-fi as the Ford site suddenly said no further updates.

so took about 5 days and then no further updates over Wi-fi,

went back to Ford update site and noticed a new update for maps. 8.9gb I think.

down loaded I’d and I get MEM_ERR01 as well.

tried downloading it 3 times and various usb sticks.

so what Ford have done I have no idea 😩

I can confirm that the 8GB map update was in fact an error by Ford! I also had the same problem but after a few days l checked the website and l was told that l had yet another update. I went through the procedure and successfully completed the update to build no 21020, l then sent Ford the log file and was then told that l had a map update to the tune of about 22GB (a biggy!). This update was done without any hitches and my only advice to everyone is just be patient!

I had the same problem, where the maps didn’t work after updating with a usb stick via Microsoft edge.   Ford support suggested I use chrome as my browser.  That worked perfectly!  My sync update was done via edge with no problems.  I do wonder if Ford really know what they are doing!

How long did the 22G update take to install onto the car??????

I've got the update ready on a USB stick, but no long journeys until next Thursday (and then only 1-1.25hrs depending on the M4/M25)

2 hours plus unfortunately

I’m also trying to think of a purpose to drive non stop for 2  hours!
If you turn off the ignition it’s back to the start??

It does go back to the start if you turn the ignition off and you also have to do a key cycle during the update as well (turn engine off lock car for 2 mins and restart car again) And if your lucky enough not get any error messages as well

Is it 2 hrs total? Or is it 2 parts (with a key-cycle in between). My journey will be 1-1.25hrs each way, with 4-5 hours in between.

If 2 parts, how long for each part?

As I said earlier in this thread when I updated my maps to F10 I found it to be a 3 stage process.

This is the procedure that worked for me.

First enter the vehicle, start engine and plug in usb drive it should then recognise and start downloading the first part of the update. After about an hour it flashes up updated but thats only the first part and you have to do a Key Cycle to enable the second part of the update to start. After about an hour it again flashes up updated but again you have to do a Key Cycle before the third and final part completes. The final part only takes about 2 or 3 minuets as it only checks and writes the successful update log file to the usb drive. Also, this is the only time it specifically says that the update has successfully completed and its now safe to removed your usb drive.

Therefore, make sure you do not remove the USB drive during the 3 stage update process.

I kept my engine running during the entire update process apart from of course when carrying out the Key Cycles.

So you think if for some reason I have to turn ignition off during the 2nd part it’ll pick up at beginning of part 2 again when restarted? That would make this process a bit easier..

also key cycle, in the past I’ve turned engine off , out the car , locked then immediately back in. No 2vmins wait

Ford have told me to do a master reset and then try the update.

If it’s the 8gb map update it’s an error. I avoided it for months after reading on another forum it’s an error by ford .

im being offered a 23gb at the moment

I think for me.  The 8GB sounds about right as all the updates I’ve done actually over the air.

so I may be only be missing part of the updates now, but everything is working perfect in the car. So no idea.

Yes I’ve asked the same question I’d they know what they are doing. It seems like your presented with things when you shouldn’t, they miss files like radio logos and so on.
hey ho. We keep going. Lol

I was being offered a 21gb one last week before it changed to 8gb but both caused the MEM_ERRO1 code. Reset doesn’t work.

After raising a case with Ford Customer service over the numerous problems with the previous update, including the complete loss of DAB radio logos,(rectified free of charge by my dealer, through Customer Services and Ford Technical, at my insistence), they agreed to pay for my next service at 54000 miles.

if we all took this up with Customer Service they would be forced into making updates easier and cheaper to do! I’ve probably used best part of a tank of fuel and 4 or 5 hours of my time just to get my maps up to date.

I don’t think that the updates aren’t easy to do, I just think the updates are botched together and poorly designed by who does them at Ford,

I understand that there are many versions of sync and updates are all different.
but there seems very little in quality control and a lack of understanding of the updates them selves.

I have no idea if they test these updates or what, but there is very little to no support after.  I’ve learnt so much from this forum and so glad of it too.

I'll try this next week... more after!!!

Do we know if mk3.5 is getting F10 maps or have they now ditched updating it?

I've no updates showing at the moment.

The same here with a 2018 Ford Fiesta

About testing updates. It’s like iOS updates, Apple make them, the best surefire way to test them is release them to the public. Get feedback, release another update to fix it and try out other stuff etc etc

Yeah, that seem to be the way of most tech now. Write a shoddy bit of code, send it as an update let it f*** everyone's system up, then update and repeat.

In the past I've give people like Microsoft a bit of leeway, in an open system where people can add  a myriad of different configuration, there is a little bit of an excuse. Ford sync is a closed system, ford should know exactly how every single unit is configured, if some one has hacked into their own system then tough luck, but for everyone else all updates should work perfectly every time.

.. and try again NEXT week.

Attempted the 'upgrade (Maps) today, plugged the stick in, SYNC recognised it, displayed 'updating...' and the down arrow in top right of display, then nothing. The arrow disappeared, journey was just over an hour, no messages, no log file on the stick......

If it helps anyone, last time I went from F8 to F9 I plugged the USB stick in, drove to work (1 hour) turned car off/locked. Then drove back home (1 hour) turned car off/locked. I left the USB stick in for the entire duration. Then next morning got in and within 15 minutes message saying update complete and logs were written, so the good thing is it seems to do the individual files on the USB stick and carries on from the last full uploaded file if you turn the car off.

Happy to be corrected though, but this was the experience I had. 🙂

I'll give it a go next week.

Did you notice if the down arrow was displayed (top right) while it was doing whatever it was doing?
