Hi tomo2001 please can you let me know when you find a fix for this, i have a 2019 ecosport with the same issue

Go to the CyanLabs website and use the files from there to re-download the update.

I spent 3 hours today trying to sort this, ive done several factory resets and removed the 2 fuses with no joy.

I somehow managed to connect my phone which worked until i switched off the car then failed to reconnect. Then i managed to connect my wifes phone then the same issue again!

Strange thing is i cant even remove the phones now, i click remove device and then confirm, but they dont go anywhere.

Ive tried 3 phones now and i have the same issue with them all but android auto works fine when plugged in..... ***** cars why's nothing simple!

Also i wonder if there is a way of re loading the update again incase this might work

Mine still not right. Can connect one phone and it works for a couple of days then can't connect again. Once this happens you cannot do anything with Bluetooth. You can scan from another phone and find 'Ford Focus' but cannot connect to it without another Master Reset. It really doesn't like you trying to pair more than one phone even the the system is capable of accepting 12!! Think it will be a call on Monday about a warranty claim

Mine is still under used car warranty as i only purchased it last week, i have booked it into ford for Wednesday

Thanks lol!

Im actually a qualified technician/Electric vehicle technician. Thing is if i can get someone else to do it for free then hey its worth a go, i have a couple of other minor things that need replacing under warranty aswell so will get them to do everything at the same time. If they cant sort the Bluetooth then i will definitely be trying the software you suggested, just will wait until warranty passes.

Hi unofix, couple of questions please,

  1. If already updated to Ford latest Sync version and have issues, like me and others on here, does the Cyanlabs update overwrite the Ford version or will no update be detected?
  2. What is different with the Cyanlabs version over the official Ford release that would mean similar issues would be avoided, like intermittent Bluetooth, inability to unpair/remove existing phones?

Thanks in advance

With Cyanlabs you input the details of what you have (version) and it creates a download for your system.

If you have update issues and the system is stuck, there is the option to format and start again.

There is no difference between the files obtained from Cyanlabs and those obtained from Ford. They are the same identical files.

The difference is in the way that files from Cyanlabs are packaged/installed.

In one of your earlier posts, you advised Ecosport2019 to download the Cyanlabs version after having issues with the offiical Ford version.

I am just trying to understand why the Cyanlabs version would be installed over the top of the Ford version and if this is considered safe to do so. The advice on this forum is great and very much appreciated, just don't want to create more issues than me and Ecosport2019 already seem to have. Wonder why the Ford update is working for some but not others?

Yes, you, Ford, and half the owners wonder the same thing !

I'm not forcing you to use Cyanlabs. It is purely your choice at the end of the day. Many on here use there site for all the updates as it seems that the way in which the files are packaged and installed is both simpler, faster and as far as i know works every time. I've not seen anyone report that they used the Cyanlab site and it caused a problem. Maybe it has for some but if so they've not made it obvious on this forum.

I repeat again they are the exact same files as you get from Ford. Often you get the newer versions of the files and updates a few months ahead of the Ford site.

As I said there is the option on the Cyanlab site to format the system and start again if all else has failed. If you're not happy to use them then just stick with the Ford website and the problem you have at the moment. It is quite possible in six months time Ford may well sort the issue and you will be back up and running.

Thanks again unofix, I like the sound of the option to reformat the system and start again as I think this is maybe what is needed. Is the procedure for this self explanatory on Cyanlabs site? Can I reformat the Sync now with the Ford version and then install the Cyanlabs version instead?

I have tried the battery disconnected for 30 mins route and so far the system has behaved for 2 days but I have not tried adding/removing phones which seems to be when the issue occurs.

Unfortunately Ford do not offer any means to format the system and start again, which would seem perhaps an obvious solution to many update problems.

If you go to the Cyanlabs site and follow the instructions it will guide you through what actions you need to do. I would try to update the system using there system first. If there is only a minor problem then a quick re-install might be the answer. If that is not possible or does not fix the issue then try the format option.

Hi folks, I just wanted to report here that I had this exact issue with Bluetooth not working when upgrading from Build 21194 to build 22110 followed by Maps F11.

My update method was all done via USB on an MXS 5.0 battery charger (which saved a lot of petrol) but also while having Wi-Fi active and connected.

The full process took me 2 days, with the majority of the update done on the charger with the engine off. FYI you can do this by inserting your MBR (Ford doesn't mention this) formatted exFAT USB stick and simply switching the radio on with the ignition off (playing music is not necessary). Once it says updating... on the screen you can close the door and lock the car. The screen should stay illuminated while the update is in progress and switch off once that stage of the update is completed.

If the screen switches off very quickly after locking the doors - the computer likely doesn't think the car / alternator is running, or your battery charger isn't supplying 14V so it will initiate a shutdown.

If you are not present to see the "update completed" message, switch on the radio again and check to see if the new version is applied in the update settings. If so, take the USB stick out, upload the xml file to Ford, then prepare the USB for the maps update and repeat the process.

Each time you notice the screen turned off, unlock the doors and push the radio back on. The screen should say it is updating again as the phased update takes at least 3-4 reboots for the full 22GB update.

The Bluetooth failed shortly after the F11 maps update, whereby I could not connect with / or remove my phone from the list. I did a master reset at this point - but the Bluetooth issue was unaffected.

Unfortunately it just seems to be a matter of patience. I suspect it needs to fetch a new OTA update over Wi-Fi (or Ford's cellular modem) after the F11 update. This is frustrating - please always indicate when the system is updating Ford, I can tell when the system is loading something silently.

I can only speculate, because the system showed it was up-to-date after the F11 update and the few people who have disconnected their battery / fuses were not able to resolve this either.

But if the Bluetooth module was made incompatible by the F11 update - until another update is fetched OTA - I recommend scanning for updates over Wi-Fi, every journey, until it says you should remove your Bluetooth phone, at which point, you can remove your phone and reconnect - if necessary. It took me the another day driving around for this to happen to me.

Btw I haven't noticed any changes with version 22110 except that my satnav no longer says "caution" at me while approaching speed cameras, like it used to.  However, I do have the new roads added in my area that I drive on.

Keen to understand your progress later this week if possible? Be interesting if Ford have a quick fix and they will carry it out FOC, as it seems that it is their update that is ***** things up.

I got a call this afternoon saying there was a massive pcm update and instrument cluster and radio unit. Apparently this has solved all my other issues aswell.

I am going tomorrow to check if its fixed, keep you posted.

Ok so....

I sat in the workshop with the tech so he could watch me pair the phones.

Tried to pair my phone, nope. Tried wifes phone, nope. "Probably because you have android bla bla" tried techs iphone, nope!

Great! So we then decided to go out of the workshop and drive down the road incase there was a signal issue going on.

Tried on road test, all 3 phones connected, tried switching between them all whilst driving and removing them. All seem ok.

I have parked up 4 times this morning and all phones connect everytime.

I know its early days but fingers crossed.

However ford does not cover firmware updates and neither does the warranty company.

Updating various modules was a fixed 1 hour fee which was £130 inc vat.

I will say though my fuel consumption has gone up massively since the ecu updates so should get my money back eventually lol!

Have you got a service report, detailing the work done that you could share please?

It literally just says carried out updates to PCM and TCU update to vehicle bluetooth system.

Just had the same problem with Bluetooth.

Latest Sync went on OK, then did maps (took 5-6 days).

This morning it said 'update complet', followed by 'connect a phone' (my phone was in the car).

Tried to remove phone, wouldn't disappear. Completed my journey and return, got into car with my phone and wife's phone - both Android. Her phone connected, mine not even in the list.

Tried adding a new phone, phone said it couldn't connect (but could see Ford Focus).

Turned Bluetooth off and on on phone, tried adding again, all OK. Set it is default, both phones seen, and survived two power and lock/unlock cycles.

Hopefully this will be the end of it!

NOTE: I didn't do a Master Reset.

Mine was working ok until just now. Picked daughter up and before I could stop her, she pressed Bluetooth button on Sync to pair her iphone to play music, searched for car and Ford Focus showed on her phone, pressed to pair and Sync threw a wobbler. Both Bluetooth and Phone buttons on Sync 'greyed out' so unable to press either of them to try pairing again or to select a different phone 😞

Came home, parked car up, swore a bit and will look at it in the morning. Don't know whether to try Cyanlabs or take it to Ford?

Give it 20 minutes in the morning before you try anything with your phones and I suspect that you will fine normal operation will be restored. You will need to re-pair the the phones back to the car.

Thanks unofix, what makes you say that, out of interest?

Had very similar problems yesterday with my car. Everything was fine when I first went out in the car. After 5 minutes both my phone and car started flashing messages about no phone and pair phone. Since I was driving at the time I just ignored the problem. When I parked up I didn't have time to investigate. Twenty minutes later I drove home still with no working Bluetooth. Got home and switched off. Had things to do so it was about 20 minutes later before I went back to the car to see what was going on. Found car had no phones paired. Tried my phone but nothing. Switched phone Bluetooth off and back on, then re-paired my phone and all was back to normal.

Today I've had no further problems.
