Clock queries, where are they?

Between us my family have four Nextbase cams, all bought from Halfrauds. Virtually all of them have had faults of one kind or another.

If you're old enough to remember the 'millennium bug', it was thought that my washing machine would stop working on the stroke of midnight, January 1st, 2000. I have no idea why as my washing machine

Well, at least they are an 'authorised' seller of Nextbase LOL

Yes, and in fairness they did replace a defective power supply for one of ours. The identical power supply problem occurred on at least two of them. I think my daughter got hers replaced by Nextbase but from what she's told me it sounds as if the same fault has appeared again recently.

I am having considerable difficulty finding something else to replace it. Browsing review sites has just made me more confused.

Just a quick update to this saga. After someone from Nextbase tech support responded to a post I started on their forum I decided to have a go at replacing the battery after all as I couldn't make a decision on a new cam. They provided the instructions for doing so and I bought a new battery from their website and a new Sandisk class 10 microSD card from an Ebay seller. Changing the battery turned out to be quite straightforward albeit a bit fiddly. The easiest bit was soldering in the new one. A short trip with the old card, re-formatted, produced 22 files covering the entire trip with all playable. Since the new card has arrived I've installed and formatted it and will see what happens on the next long trip. It's double the capacity at 32GB which is the largest the cam supports. That will give 3 hours recording before it starts overwriting old files.

Hopefully I've sorted the problems for around 20 quid. If not I can always use the  card in a new cam and won't have lost much.

Just an update on the repair. This looks to have fixed the problems. On a return journey of about 90 minutes each way yesterday it's recorded the entire trip with all 66 files ok as far as I can see. I obviously haven't played all of them but I have verified that it recorded the start and end of each journey and all the file thumbnails look good (corrupted ones display with a generic thumbnail as Windows doesn't recognise them).

So that was a cheap fix and the Nextbase lives to fight another day. Now I've just got to remember to re-format the card more often .

Nextbase seem very sensitive to reformatting cards. I now do mine on the 1st of the month (if I remember!), and have had no spurious error since doing so. I would have bought a 'nextbase' branded card initially with the DashCam, but they really do charge an awful price for them!

I originally bought a Nextbase branded card on the basis that if there was a problem they couldn't claim it was due to an incompatible or poor quality card. This time I just bought a Sandisk from an online seller (surprisingly a company that sells printer consumables).

I wish I'd seen the Nextbase discussion lol. I've just bought a 222XR and a Sandisk Endurance SD card.

Couple of months in, so far so good, my only criticism is the seemingly low-ish bitrate of the video recording, and the HUGE windscreen encroachment behind the rear view mirror which creates a blindspot on the camera.
