MikeyD33
Hello Everyone As usual, apologies if this is elsewhere. I have been quoted £65 per wheel to have the wheels on our car refurbished, is that about right? Please don’t tell me………. I’ve got a six wheel Fiesta……. I just got excited with the camera….😀
Aldridge Andy
£65 per wheel is pretty decent, I paid around that quite a few years ago. Then more recently I paid £40 to have a 2cm long scuff repaired. If the refurb process involves tyre removal, sand blasting, repairing and coating you’re getting a good deal.
MikeyD33
Hello Andy, it did seem a fair price tbh. They will acid strip etc… sand blast and then powder coat. I am out their way next week so will call in and check the place over. Thank you for coming back. Mikey.
alanfp
Agree. Sounds reasonable. I was quoted £50 per wheel 12 yrs ago. .... would they strip, sand, fill and respray your wheel arch for another £65 ?? (sorry - couldn't resist 😉).
Dr-x
Sounds like a deal I pay around £80 per wheel but that normally includes a bit of rebuilding

Love ya, the driver could do with a bit of a strip and filler. I could probably do with a re spray too. Thanks for coming back. Hopefully your not from the revenue, cash has been mentioned 💷💷💷
MikeyD33
Thank you all for coming back, appreciated. Gut feeling is normally what I go on but it is nice to get other points of view. Thanks again. Mikey.
AUDIdoTHAT
I recently just did my own on a set of wheels i got cheap that were kerbed badly... Wheels as i bought them Rubbed down Primer applied top coat with ford Sparkle silver I lacquered them last Monday, Left them to dry all week before getting the tyres put on. Not sure how long to leave it, I just didn't want the paint being soft still and the tyre guy scratches them whilst putting the tyres on. maybe next week I'll get the tyres fitted.

Nice job, If I tried that they would look worse than when I started.

One should have taken them to a powder coater or plater for a better more durable coating. Here in the US, our powder coater charge 80.00 USD per wheel. Hydro-dipping is another option. 5 spoke wheels are particularly good for this...

I dont think anyone suggested (painting over the wheels) Obviously you have to prep them and do the ground work to get the best result, But theres nothing wrong with once thats done, in spraying them with normal alloy wheel primer, paint , Lacquer, nothing at all. Is there better options... Possibly... But still nothing wrong with the traditional way.
AUDIdoTHAT
I was going to wait until next week but took the plunge and just got the tyres fitted now, dosnt look to bad for a DIY job.

AUDIdoTHAT
couldn't resist and fitted them today, I have to be honest the colour isnt as nice as the old wheels, but for now it will do. Before...... After Need to sort the callipers and discs out now as they are alot more visible and look a mess. I must have the cleanest NON RUNNING car down my street 😆
agraham
Wow! 35 profile tyres. I bet they would be fun (not) running over the potholes currently multiplying like rabbits in our rural roads☹️

Id still have the truck if Mr Khan wasnt forcing me to get rid of it because of this ULEZ rubbish lol
