Mark 3 or 4?

Very stupid question, probably, but I've recently bought a classic Escort xr3i Cabriolet. It was first registered in January 1986. Does this make it a very early Mk 4 or a late Mk 3? How can I tell?

I owned a 1986 XR3i, and a 1990 RS Turbo. The headlights are the primary visual difference, earlier one had angular shaped ones with later a more curved shape. Post a photo...

The bonnet is another very easy decider.  Mk3 bonnet is totally flat across the front.  Mk4 bonnet curves down with the badge on it and headlight cut-outs each end.

Registration date is not relevant as some cars sit in the compound for months before being registered.
