Hi guys!

Opinions please...

Bought this car 4 months ago, since having it, the speedometer stopped working and the milage doesn't show.

Then the amber engine light came on..

If you hit 70mph the speedo tries to work, and volume on the radio goes up..then back to 0mph.

We have changed the speedo sensor, lambert sensor, starter motor, crankshaft breather pipe, are filter etc since.

apparently this model doesnt have a abs/sensor?

I have continuity tested the connections behind the dash, all seem fine. Checked fuses and wires under the steering wheel.

Have you used FORScan to read the Ford specific DTC's ? 🤔

We have had a few people plug in, 2 out of the 3 didn't find codes.

Someone else stated these codes..

My brother isn't convinced it's the ECU, who is a mechanic.

Is there any other sensors that are worth looking at?

Without using FORScan or Fords own diagnostic equipment, you won't be able to see all the Ford specific DTC's on both of the Canbus systems.

How do I do this?

Here are the links to FORScan and the cable or dongle you will need.

FORScan (for use with Windows Laptop) : https://forscan.org/download.html

It's what many Ford owners use including some Ford technicians.

That's a lot of "Ux-xxx" codes.

My first thought would be the solder connections on the back of the instrument cluster. Second thought would be water ingress to the GEM.

Disconnect the car battery (only need to remove the negative terminal) and then do a resistance check of both the High Speed and the Medium Speed Canbus systems. You can measure the resistance at the OBDII port. Each network should be 60 Ohms

I took this off and inspected but looks okay?

Also took the clocks out and continuity tested the terminal but needed a smaller tool to get to the board which il do in the next couple of days.

Canbus systems?

In the self-test, is there an instrument sweep test to see if the needles are capable of moving the entire dial?

On my mk3 Mondeo, if the battery is disconnected, then on reconnection and turning on the ignition, the needles sweep the entire dial.

If they test out ok, then possibly a wire from speed sensor is the problem.

Not that I saw, but I am a newbie to this?

When you hit 70mph it does try to work, dial goes to 70mph then drops again, the radio volume also increases at the same time.

On the motorway it will do this  6+ times.

Iv had a lot of bits out today. Found two wires not connected? What are these for?

Don't know what they are for, but it does look like they have corroded off the connector.

Looking at the state of the connector it looks like those wires have been disconnected for a very long time.

Is there anything else I can check for the speedometer?

I have very little information on the 2003 Fiesta. I don't think that it uses the ABS wheel sensors for the speedo, perhaps @TomsFocus may know ?

I'd also look at getting those wires fixed. You will need to buy a 'pigtail' plug, available from a Ford dealer. Do you have the Haynes workshop manual for you car ? It would show those wires.
