MattDRX
To be honest......... Nope in short term, you'll never really see any return, such as BP saying you'll get "up to" 20 miles extra per tank, work out how much it costs to do 20 miles in the car and then how much the difference in tanks is. Power gains, well an RR might show some gains but you won't feel the difference, does keep the injectors a bit cleaner though.
JoeZS19
As mattDRX said it probably won't make much noticeable difference, However I always put the premium unleaded in, like the sound of vpower ahaa

Clarky2013
Every time I go in I keep forgetting to sign up to that v power club so I earn points for vouchers!
Damon Cook
Ive heard the advantage of the v power or bp ultimate was that its like having fuel with engine cleaner in your fuel keeps it clean might be wrong just heard Sent from my iPhone using Ford OC
Phil 87
Every time I go in I keep forgetting to sign up to that v power club so I earn points for vouchers! Yeah they kept asking if I wanted to join so I gave in eventually. It's not that great to be honest, the points are worth about 1p per litre I think. SandyCat
It all adds up eventually. I have had quite a few Shell vouchers now saving a few quid over time. Thinking about it though I have not had one for a while now even though I am using the same amount of fuel. I need to log in and see what's going on. I hope they have been scanning my card correctly :(
potter18
When I picked up my car the dealer told me to put v power fuel in every 4th or 5th fil up just to keep the engine clean , as for the Shell fuelcard I have to fill up with Shell so I get vouchers through usually evry 3 months or so (have a Shell credit card through work) so I get about 7/8 quid off the price , so I tend to use v power
SandyCat
Normal Shell has the cleaning agents as well to be fair. I have always stuck to Shell and Esso and never had any running issues.
jtaylor2005
What I am curious about is what the effect of direct injection is on what octane is needed? Higher octane resists pre detonation. If the fuel is injected just when its needed then what is there to pre-detonate anyway haha. Couple that with the fact that high octane fuel is actually lower in calorific value 99% of the time and I really start to wonder if its even necassary on these new direct injection engines. Couple that with the fact that high octane fuel is actually lower in calorific value 99% of the time and I really start to wonder if its even necassary on these new direct injection engines. I'm no expert but some engines can take advantage of higher octane petrol to get more power, especially turbo engines from what I've heard. I think one thing that affects it is whether the engine has a knock sensor and whether it's used to automatically advance the timing (maybe someone else can explain it better). That probably has something to do with pre-detonation, which I assume is what a knock is. So with higher octane the timing can be advanced further to give more power, if the engine has that feature. jtaylor2005
Thinking about it now I have basically just figured out how it could work in these anyway. The more resistant to pre ignition the fuel is (The higher the octane) the earlier in the cycle the engine can inject it. So injecting the fuel closer to top dead centre will gain more power than injecting it a few degrees after top dead centre.
