Things I Don't Like

Really there should be valves there.
I remember when I fitted Depo lights to my old mk2 Focus there were plastic tubes but no rubbers on them and I had condensation too.
Original rubbers were too large but once cable tied on to the pipes the condensation problem went.

Are you saying that the messages are stuck/frozen on the screen or just that they appear over the top? It could be something under the settings and notifications that could be turned off. Some app notifications appear as popups or banners on the screens and Android usually allows you to set individual app notification settings if there is nothing under the actual app settings.

No not stuck it takes ages to go off.

Say you send a message to a seller on ebay and when you press send it comes up on your screen ''sending message'' then after that it says lower down ''message sent''.

These takes ages to go off so either its taking ages to send the message or it's very slow to go off even if it's been sent.

Just checked the headlights in the morning and they look normal again 😊. Can't see any water spots inside

Condensation is pure water so there won't be any scale deposits left behind.  However, if you get any dust build up in there, water can leave run marks in that if there's enough of it.  Try to seal the lights up if you can.

I don't like that lockdown has finished off my laptop battery.  There's even a BIOS message coming up before start-up telling me the battery's knackered now.

I'm determined not to buy another laptop until I've moved though...  Partly because things are likely to get damaged in a move, and partly because I don't want to reduce the life of a brand new battery during the rest of lockdown.

Are Chromebooks any good out of interest?  I don't usually take any notice of TV ads but keep seeing one about battery life on them...  Only thing is, would they still be able to run Forscan and VCDS (VAGCOM)?  And what about OpenOffice?  I guess those are Windows only?  Any other laptops with excellent battery life and longevity?  I have to use it on battery only for hours at a time currently, so battery life is the main criteria!

Forscan needs Windows, it won't run on Chromebook, they run a version of Linux.

It's why I got a MS Surface Go for a tablet, so I could still run windows apps like Forscan.

Ah ok...will stick to windows then!  Don't want a tablet, needs to a be a laptop and have a decent sized screen - I know both of those things take more battery power lol!  Any recommendations for brands etc?  Current laptop is a HP which has done well tbf…  It didn't take well to the Win10 upgrade though.  And this is the 3rd battery!  It's also got an Intel i3 processor...what should be I looking at to improve on that these days?

Dell tend to make decent laptops, others will have decent products and there will be some bad Dells, but as overall quality, they tend to be pretty good.

There are so many to chose from though, it really comes down to budget to be able to recommend something.

Chromebooks have limited HDD/SSD space and are smaller than laptops so you'd need external HDDs etc.
Acer make good laptops and I've not had any issues with HP either. I'd say avoid Toshiba ones as I had 2 and the HDDs failed on both within a few months and had to keep going back for new ones.

Battery life completely depends on what settings you use and what you are using the machine for. Most will have a battery saver mode so only things requiring minimal memory etc will run.

Can you not get a replacement battery online?

I bought a extra capacity one for my older laptop and it gave me a good 3 hours of power if I really had to run it away from the mains.

Must admit my current MSI laptop battery only lasts about an hour tops but as it's used for gaming, running it on battery would mean about 30 minutes with a game running.

I could, but it's already on it's 3rd genuine one and that's only lasted just over a year!  Doesn't seem good value to keep replacing batteries when the laptop is getting on now anyway.

I tried a cheap aftermarket one but it was rubbish, barely lasted an hour brand new.  I used to get around 2.5 hours from the genuine batteries.  I may have to get another aftermarket one just tide me over if this one completely fails though.  Unless I buy a second power adapter and run it up my chair somehow, not entirely sure that's a good idea for fire safety though.

I don't use it for gaming but want to be able to use Youtube and pic heavy sites like Autotrader and ebay. The rest is mainly forum/facebook browsing, emails and Office docs so nothing too strenuous.

hard to tell tbh as it doesn't scream fake, but if there's a large price disparity then probably

only way to really tell is to check it in person. but i personally wouldn't buy it/take the risk, i think the odds aren't in your favour

btw if you did buy a new laptop and wanted to preserve the battery, the trick is to charge it up to 60%, take it out of the laptop, and store it in a cool dry place (e.g. cupboard somewhere) and just use the laptop on AC power all the time.

I hardly ever use the battery on my laptop, only using it now because the charger has a loose connection (thanks to the cats chewing it!) so whilst I wait on a new one arriving I am charging it up then running it off the battery.  Hopefully only for a few days though.

That kinda defeats the point of having a laptop!

You can save petrol if you push the car everywhere and never run it on engine power.

I will eventually buy another laptop, but for now I'll probably try the battery linked above.  What's the worst that can happen?  Well I guess it could catch fire while I'm out destroying the flat...but let's hope not!

That's what I sometimes feel like doing with the Mondeo   At least I've saved a fair bit of money from not going out to the pub almost every weekend though because of covid, and also not driving in general.

Fires are horrible though! I'm kinda paranoid about them after seeing a work colleague's Galaxy S6 phone spontaneously explode a couple or so years ago whilst charging lol. The smell of the resulting cloud of smoke was awful, probably a concoction of chemicals that would wipe a few years off your life if you breathed enough of it in, needless to say myself and most people left the area pretty quickly but a few crazy people lingered around!

Me too tbh, I was only half joking...  I don't even like candles lol.  But I've never lived anywhere with gas, I guess people with gas cookers are more used to seeing flames indoors.

I managed to crush a few double A's last week and genuinely not sure if it's safe to use them now...  They're Poundland ones just for the Xbox controller, but for some reason they changed the packaging recently and they now come in impossibly tough shrink wrapping.  I thought it'd be a good idea to 'snap' the packet in half and take them out of the middle, which did work, but I now have a few very squashed batteries!

if they're just regular alkaline batteries (non rechargeable) then they're not as explosive or volatile as say li-ion batteries are, so you should be alright i reckon

though i'm impressed you managed to squash batteries with seemingly just your hands, are you lenny? haha

They come in a stack of 10, it's purely about leverage rather than strength!  I've tried a couple this morning...seem to work ok so far...

I don't like that my sleeping is getting worse...  Can't sleep for hours, then fall asleep and wake up every hour or more until I've slept for about 3-4 hours and then I'm awake for the rest of the next day.

Absolutely shattered today, just went for my constitutional and felt like I was sleep walking!

I don't like finding out that the new anti-depressant/anti-anxiety drug I've been put on can cause liver damage and they don't recommend mixing with alcohol as that increases the risk...  Don't think the doctor realised how much I drink when he prescribed it!!  Lets hope for the best

I don't like trying squid for the first time today!

I used to work in a crab processing factory and eating it reminded me of cleaning out the drains!

Needless to say I won't be trying it again! 🤮

Can't say it is something I've ever wanted to try but I think I'll give it a miss now you've said that!
