Eating-wise, I love Spam - and corned beef - as did I my Dad. Given the amount that he must have had in the army during WW2 you'd have thought he'd have been sick to death of it, but no, couldn't get enough!😃 My father in law, who served in the Royal Navy, was the same.

I make my own from Chopped ham and pork, also corned beef and onion when i find it on offer. Most things are better battered and deep fried LOL except chocolate

I would normally agree, however a couple of decades ago, I was working in Edinburgh. On the walk home back to the hotel, there was a chippy I sometimes called in to. Curiosity got the better of me and I ordered one of the mythical, 'deep fried Mars bars'. It was not the last time I placed that order

I went into a chippy in Fort william once ordered meat pie chips and gravy, they fried the pie LOL

Well, the spam emails are still coming in...but I have another don't like for today.

Trying to purchase something on La Poste (French Royal Mail).  It won't let me purchase without making an account.  And it won't let me create an account without adding a post code.  And it won't accept a UK post code, as the database has only been setup to allow a 5 digit numerical code, even when putting the country as UK.

Should have been such a simple process! 🤦‍♂️  Can't find any email contact either.  (Selecting email just links you to FAQs).  And I don't think my GCSE French will be much use in a fast paced webchat.

I got similar yesterday trying to order a Mil-tec Ranger Vest in black it was cheap in Euro's then even cheaper converted, but they didnt post to the UK. Ireland was the nearest or France.

Sent an email waiting on a response.

I've had a social media response from La Poste.  They say I would have to have a French address in order to create an account.

But that doesn't make any sense when they list many different countries in the 'country' field, and also list international delivery times for items.

It was easier to purchase equivalent from Canada Post across the Atlantic instead of a few miles across the Channel! 🤦‍♂️

Methinks the froggies are being a bit arsey, which is about right for them.

Allo Allo, read very carefully, I will only type this once........

The Fronch are Plunkers, it's a wall known Fect 😉

I do not like that everyday I get warnings from my AntiVirus, warning me of "privacy issues" that 'Im being watched by websites'!! Of course I bl**dy am, everytime you go to a web site you have to accept a gazillion cookies before progressing! I know they are all tracking me!

Yes I know exactly what you mean.

I need to renew my anti-virus which ran out two weeks ago ! I've always used Norton but recently I was getting tired of the almost daily pop-ups from Norton telling what a great job it was doing, and how clever it was, and how many times it had saved my computer from certain death. This is/was of course just a means of continually advertising via the backdoor since I had expressly ticked (or unticked which ever it was) that I didn't want any marketing from them no matter how important they thought  it was.

So the question now is, what do I use instead ?

I don't use the laptop much these days but I was it was AVG ....No idea if it's still around anymore, never had any issues whatsoever.

My new laptop came with a 'free trial' of McAfee...  I seem to get a pop up nearly every day telling me the free trial has run out and the PC may be unprotected.  (Despite the fact it defaulted back to Windows Defender, which I've found to be adequate over the past decade).

That post motivated me to do something about the pop-ups.  I've just deleted the McAfee app.  That was easier than expected.

I use AVG, primarily because it is absolutely free! Just choose 'basic' on every screen as they try to upsell you. I paid for Norton decades ago, and it infiltrated every part of my PC causing endless issues for me, so I decided I'd rather get a virus LOL

If you're on Windows 10 or newer (which you should be for security updates) then imo Windows Defender is perfectly adequate. Everything else is adware or bloatware.

If people are bothered about protecting themselves with an Anti-virus, then they should be on a supported version of Windows.

You are much more likely to have an exploit bypass your AV using an outdated OS with vulnerabilities.

Can of worms?? Why, do you think those of us still running Windows 7 might object?

It's really no bother at all. I have been using Windows since 3.1, launched in 1992!  I just can't be *rsed any more by this constant planned obsolescence, and primarily, forcing us to spend money on new hardware & software. My laptop does exactly what I want it to do.

It's just an observation, an AV won't help you if the OS you are using has vulnerabilities that can be exploited to bypass the AV.

Using an AV on an unsupported OS is like locking the car with the windows open.

I also agree on hating the planned obsolesence BS. But that said, MS have at least allowed free upgrades for a while. My current Win 11 install is using a Win 7 key. It just depends if your hardware is supported by Win 10, but if it runs Win 7 it generally should be.

Yes, I agree, it may have vulnerabilities, but I think nowadays 'hackers' have much bigger fish to fry than targeting my laptop to see what web sites I visit. I treat it almost like a car, mine is 18 years old, sure, newer ones have loads of bells & whistles on them, but mine is reliable, gets me from A to B with no drama. Yes, I may be involved in an accident at any stage, but that won't persuade me to bankrupt myself to have a shiny new toy.

It's all about risk assessment, I have assessed that I do not need to buy a new laptop with a new windows, whan what I have does the job... (LapTop is 13 years old so won't really cope with any potential upgrades without grinding to a halt, whereas with a recent SSD upgrade, it's a flying machine!)
