Didn't think kids bothered with pushbikes now. Go straight for riding around on stolen mopeds/scooters.

I have much experience with next day delivery to NI. If it's a letter or small parcel, 1st class RM is pretty reliable. Parcelforce is usually OK, sometimes taking 2 days. You have been very unlucky. Amazon I'm ashamed to admit handle next day really well. Hopefully you can at least get some compensation.

Stephen, I owe you an apology.  RM would have delivered a 5kg parcel to NI next day* for between a third to half of the cost of Parcel Force.  (*Technically they don't guarantee next day.)

Parcel Force don't even work Saturdays - except they must do, because you can pay extra for a Saturday delivery. 😠

P*ssed off now tbh.  Obviously my fault for not checking the RM site as well as the parcel comparison site.

No, you don't! But thanks anyway. I could give you a whole story on how Royal Mail to Northern Ireland is one of the most efficient in the UK. It all started off with Margaret Thatcher, in the 80s during the 'troubles'. She was paranoid about RM being disrupted by the paramilitary organisations, so many contingencies were built into the system to ensure a robust service, many survive to this day...

That would be because Hermes recently changed its name to Evri!😃

Reminds me of over 20 years ago, when the geniuses at Royal Mail thought it a great idea to change their name to, "Consignia". That worked out well LOL

Yep. Consigned to the dustbin of history!😃

I'd forgotten all about Consignia !!!

Shows how well that went. Yet another total waste of money, but someone will have made a killing 🙄

Yes, and they'll have been wearing a pony tale, and sipping organically fed mineral water from a designer glass bottle costing more than normal folk spend on a whole meal LOL

ALERT !

End of civilisation as we know it 🙁

Just was wondering if the governments alert to "scare the pants off them" went ahead at 3:00PM as promised ?

I turned my mobile off at lunch time as I have no desires to assist the authorities in gathering yet more data about us that will undoubtedly be misused.

My mobile was switched on, but I disabled the alerts a couple of weeks ago, so, Sunday nap continued interrupted, and am now on 3rd episode of Columbo - perfect Sunday LOL

I live by the premise that if the government want to issue a 4 minute warning, I'd like to live them out in blissful ignorance, rather than sheer terror...

My phone did not receive the alert despite being on and there is no option to either enable or disable Emergency Alerts on my phone. There is an option to enable/disable Service Alerts, which might be what could disable it, I'm not sure, but that was on.

It maybe because of the age of my phone, about 5 years old, or a problem with Vodafone.

I'm curious - what kind of phone do you have (android/iPhone) and if android, what version you running?

Reports I've read has confirmed that there are issues with Three network, but others seem to be fine...

It's a Sony XZ1 Compact, the second last almost flagship compact made.

It came out the box with Android 8 but I had to update it to Android 9, which is as far as Sony will let you upgrade that phone.

It does have customised Vodafone firmware on it, because I bought it from them, rather than the generic firmware that some phones have.

For android 9, these are the suggested steps for alerts...

  1. Go to Settings.
  2. Tap Connections.
  3. Tap More connection settings.
  4. Tap Wireless Emergency Alerts.
  5. Tap the Settings menu (three dots) for Wireless Emergency Alerts.
  6. From the options that appear, select Settings.
  7. Select Alert types.
  8. Select the alerts you want to disable.

Needed to be android 11 at least.

Mine went off.

It's good to have if there's an earthquake. That's a feature I have on my phone apparently now Ive  looked. . 🤣🤣

If it's for wildfires and flood alerts I think I'm pretty safe at home where I live.

Indeed, because the ground shaking beneath you may not be a big enough clue

Well its good to know my trusty steam powered Sony Xperia X compact running Android 8.0.0 is just too old for the government to be bothered with 🤣

I guess they're only trying to save the young whipper snappers and not old fogies !!!

Thanks but mine does not have the option under Connections or anywhere else. I did use the Search Function and did a manual search as well.

And I would smell and see a wildfire in the distance too. As for flooding ? Really. It's raining alot, I wonder what's going to happen to the river and streams? Mmmm.

Even if it were for more sinister events like Putin firing something nasty at us. Not much you could do really? I suppose I could drive up the hill and force my way into the nuclear bunker that's buried underground.
