I'd try & book it in a few days earlier.

  • Take the car elsewhere, it doesn't have to go to Fraud to maintain the warranty, as long as they stamp the book it's valid. I wouldn't worry about resale value either, it will make no difference to d

It isn't at all, go there and buy the Ford Oil, it has no mention of BP or Castrol on there.

The Americans would never outsource their Oil supplier to a UK firm, the filler cap says Castrol recommended but the Ford branded Oil is certainly not made by Castrol

Fords website also says "complete protection for your Ford Engine" Use Ford Formula.

then another column to keep your engine like new ( bit of a task ) then use Castrol Magnatec.

the basic service stuff they give you will not include this oil.

Personally I'd take Shell over Castrol, has a slightly higher detergency over Castrol.

When my dealer did the oil change they out I what was recommended, castrol magnetic professional.

Yep, they changed the

Formula Ford oil is made by B.P. / Castrol

Where do you get your information from? Just because it says Ford Formula, DOESN'T mean it isn't made by Castrol. A lot of stores have own brand products made by reliable manufacturers but don't have those details on them. As for "basic service stuff", have you ever asked the dealer what this is? They'd not use an oil that would ruin the engines as Ford have more cars on the road than most other manufacturers so this would soon be found out.

As for outsourcing to a UK company; Castrol is owned by BP, BP has approximately 40% of its shares owned in the US, another 40% in the UK and the rest by various others. So BP is a worldwide company and has a huge US base of operations. So the use of BP products is well within Fords remit.

B.P. / Castrol have invested countless millions in engine lubrication in partnership with Ford Europe / U.K. - that's why Formula Ford oil is in fact rebranded Castrol oil & Castrol are owned by B.P.

Any specification changes anounced by ford to dealers allways reference the updated castrol specs .

I already had an oil change at the local dealer and wasn't worried about what oil they would use, that could just be ignorance on my part but I trust them after being there a few times for small jobs. I think the quotes will decide it for me, if the local dealer will do it at a reasonable price I'll go there. They're only a 30 min walk away so very convenient.

When I said I wasn't worried about what oil they use, I just meant that I think they are a reputable dealer so I assume they would only use quality oil.

From what I've read it HAS to be Magnatec.

I certainly wouldn't use anything other than Castrol Magnatec in either of our Fords - nor will the Ford dealer we use.

Quoted £130 inc vat from the local dealer, that seems fair to me. I'll probably go with them, just going to find out what the service includes and if they charge more for the "convenience checks".

Convenience check on 1year service normally 0.3hr labour extra

Got it booked at the local dealer. They said no one bothers with the convenience checks but they'll do it at no extra cost :). Getting 2 new tyres at the same time at £96 each so it's going to cost me about £320

Next year I might need 4 new tyres so I don't want to think of the cost of that plus 2nd service.

yeah, cant see how stuff just wears out.

perhaps we should just park our cars up, admire them and use the bus!

Done just over 9000 miles and did a quick measurement on the front two, one of them is down to about 4mm so thinking it'll be around 3mm in a couple months when it's serviced. I could always keep them going a bit longer but I'd rather be safe and not let them go below 3mm.

Wow you been caning that around Phil? I've done 13.5k and still ok

Not really but I like to have some fun with the car when I can, although not many chances for that on the daily commute. How much tread do you have left on yours?

Did you have look at camskill/black circles? Good prices on most tyres Tbf, but I'm in the same position as you! Done 8k and they're nearing the wear bar... Wooooops

Through ford the only thing you're paying for is your warranty and the stamp on your book, part run ford no more than 20 quid for a first service and can be done in half an hour

I shopped around online, very hard to find the same tire anywhere but I found it for £95 so it's an ok deal. I think I saw them for £75 on black circles but then suddenly it wasn't there next time I checked. Maybe it went out of stock or was a different tyre.

I really need to do a more thorough measurement of my tread depths, maybe I can get another month or two from the tyres but don't want to go below 3mm for safety in the wet.

You must have been having some fun with yours to get down to the wear limit in 8k miles lol, had it on the track?

I managed to get through 2 front tyres in 4k , wont do that again, expensive driving that was inc fuel, 320hp through front wheels wasnt a good mix, lol
