If you want a cig lighter that comes on or off with ignition I can make one for you. It will give you a socket you can tuck under the dash or wherever suits your needs. Everything from fusetap to so

  • See my guide here fitting dual camera system fed through a piggy back fuse adaptor in to fuse F100 Comes on and off with ignition, No splicing easily removed. Link: http://www.fordownersclub.com/f

  • Or if nothing else shares the cig lighter fuse, remove the fuse and then remove the other end of the wire from the cig lighter and tape it up with insulation tape and tuck it away. Now, fit your fuse

I thought you were hard wiring your camera to the fusebox? What are you planning on doing with the fuse tap live wire?

  • Author

no, not at all, its going into the cig lighter under the arm rest with the rest of the wires

that's why I want to get the cig lighter power to go off when I switch the engine off

you will need to rewire that socket up to a switch to turn it off as it always on

  • Author

ah ok thanks for your help

so best option for me then (as I don't want to cut wires etc etc) is either a) pull it out every time or b) plug in another cig lighter thing which has a switch on it ?

yes if you can find one with a switch

Or if nothing else shares the cig lighter fuse, remove the fuse and then remove the other end of the wire from the cig lighter and tape it up with insulation tape and tuck it away. Now, fit your fuse tap to an ignition fed circuit and then run the live wire to the cig lighter. There you go, ignition fed cig lighter for your equipment. Just dont use it as a lighter because it will blow the 5amp fuse. It can be swapped back to standard in minutes when you come to sell the car.

If you want a cig lighter that comes on or off with ignition I can make one for you.

It will give you a socket you can tuck under the dash or wherever suits your needs.

Everything from fusetap to socket supplied for £15.

I've done a few for other members with no dramas.

Thanks Lenny, I have a question on your guide...

Where did you install the front camera? u have the rear done, but I cant see the front camera, surely its not in the glove box as it wouldn't get anything lol

Think I understand it now, all I have to do is buy the fuse tap lead from link above, Find FUSE 100 in the passenger foot wells glove box, remove that fuse and put it into the fuse tap lead into the bottom one and the new fuse (what rating?) into the top and put the fuse tap back into F100 and that's it, nothing else?

Front Camera:

I too have a TomTom Satnav,

I use the second USB socket inside the glovebox to run a 2 metre USB cable to the TomTom satnav when required.

The above cable remains permanently plugged in to the USB socket that becomes live with the ignition.

I just open glove box to roll out the cable for the satnav,

No cables coming from centre console or across the headunit.

If installing the USB socket kit via a piggyback fuse adaptor;

A 10amp mini blade fuse is sufficient and yes your 100% correct in the quoted text.

If you want a cig lighter that comes on or off with ignition I can make one for you.

It will hive you a socket you can tuck under the dash or wherever suits your needs.

This sounds a far better option and then you still have the original for any future requirements.

He will make you an ignition powered cig socket which you can hide away so you will not have any wires running to the original socket and will still have the original to use too. He will provide all the wiring, fuse tap etc so you should be able to have it up and running in 10 mins without cutting any original wires.

Indeed.

All you need to do is plug it into the fuse slot and transfer the original fuse into the bottom slot, there will be a crimped on terminal to attach to any body mounted screw/bolt (for the earth) and then put the socket wherever it pleases (screws included for solid mounting or use some foam sticky pads if that suits better).

That sounds really good Stoney, I just bought a longer USB lead to reach around to my arm rest that will be all tucked away, but yours sound much better option, I would probably put it near the glove box as the wires would be that side, so somewhere down there (maybe near the A pillar side would do the trick)

wonder if I could mount it in any existing bolts that are down there ;)

ill have to send you some money mate

so the answer to my question then is, on the focus that I have both lighter sockets are always on, is this like this across all Fords does anyone know?

to resolve the problem that I had, I asked Stoney to make a special lead, which will help dramatically!

yes both on all focus

Yes

However this can be changed by removing the fuse and inserting it in to an alternative fuse socket in the same fuse board,

I don't have the specific number to hand at present,

But with the fuse in this location the 12V sockets are only live on ignition.

I know im going off topic but going to keep my stuff together..

I have a mini 0806 dashcam that ive just installed this morning (just need to do the new cig lighter socket into fuse holder etc) and ive placed it just behind the mirror but below the black stuff on the windscreen, im gessing that black stuff is for the climate control or something? I didn't think it was a good idea to put it on that, and ive put all the wedges under it so it has better exposure

will that be ok there ?

pics when its all finished

that's were mine is and it see the road in full been there two years now

Ive got my suction cup mounted on the black speckles while the camera faces out just below this,

Catches the airbag decal in the footage along top of the screen,

You can see the ring of the cup holder from ouside but not the camera:

The black speckes are to prevent sunlight from shining through blinding your eyes from viewing the mirror,

Doest affect anything mounting suction cup to it.
