DuncanMck Posted January 2, 2016 Share Posted January 2, 2016 Hi Guys, Thought I would say hello firstly before boring you all with my issue as im new to the forum. Ok so here goes, as the title says I have a issue with my vans dpf. The short of the story is I started out with the wee cog light with ! in the middle flashing on for around 15 seconds and going off which then escalated to the engine management light before I got to phoned my warranty people. it was booked into one of their approved garages and basically the DPF was changed and something done with the glow plugs so I thought happy days problem solved. I was wrong a few weeks later the cog returned which I was told was a glow plug issue, then the EML returned which I thought was connected to the glow plug issue as the cog doesnt appear when this is on. I eventually managed to get the light read and it came up with p2463 which is the dpf again. This time it wasn't under warranty but I was told it was a sensor this time so I paid for this to be changed (it was one of the pressure ones al double check which one for tomorrow) so this time I thought again, ok this should be it new dpf and a faulty sensor swapped out..... a day after this the cog re appeared and a couple days after that the EML is back on. I had it read again today and its the same code p2463. A mechanic friend suggested doing a regin by taking it down the motorway at 60 in 4th gear which should clear the dpf and maybe the light. The light is still on, still need to see if the machine will clear it now but I am gonna get investigated again soon...... anyone else any experience with this Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
iantt Posted January 3, 2016 Share Posted January 3, 2016 Were the learnt values reset when dpf was changed, also known for corrosion of wiring at sensor connectors which makes the pcm think regen temps not reached so fails regen, also known is the fuel vaporiser gets blocked up and fails regen as no fuel is injected into dpf to increase temps for regen. Unusual for dpf to block up unless a sensor or vaporiser is at fault. Another one is to check the fuse for vaporiser glowplug circuit and the fuel pump for vaporiser. When you said about glowplugs , was it the engine glowplugs or vaporiser glowplug? Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

They didn't diagnose any faults they just changed it as the warranty company uses a rubbish garage!!! Then as a say I've had a sensor changed Will check out the fuses now and see what they are like and If found bad I will repeat the motorway run once replaced to see if that regens other than that al probably need to leave it to a mechanic due to time constraints and stuff I believe it was just engine glow plugs, well so I was told by the "mechanic" Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

iantt Posted January 3, 2016 Share Posted January 3, 2016 If the fuse blown , I would check it had the right fuse rating what fuse was fitted?, got a feeling the fuse needs a higher rated fuse fron what ive read somewhere, not definate on that. So just put the same rated one in for now. As for regen, its worth a go but think by the timebthe red cog is iluminating it may be to late and may need static regen at garage, and even then it may take a couple of regen attempts to clear the dpf. DuncanMck Posted January 3, 2016 Author Share Posted January 3, 2016 It was a 20amp fuse in which I have replaced. I dont think the cog was red. it flashed up orange and went off again and now sitting with the EML on. Will take it and a run and plug it in and see if it will clear for me. As I say the DPF is fairly new so if I give it a proper chance to regen it might just do the trick. DuncanMck Posted January 3, 2016 Author Share Posted January 3, 2016 I don't get it really, when the pressure sensor was changed it cleared the code for 3 or so days then it came back. Is it possibly because it hasn't had a chance to regenerate? Due to the fuse being blown aswell as a dodgy sensor? Cud it be a dirty sensor? The dpf is only 3 months old after all! iantt Posted January 3, 2016 Share Posted January 3, 2016 It may need a few drive cycles to put light out, so its still the p 2463 code but a pending code? As ive said before once the dpf is blocked it will take a while to reduce the soot loading, maybe the regen took place while you drove but wasnt enough to get loading down enough, and may need more. Ive static regen a transit that took 3 attempts to be ok and each time it took probably 30 mins each regen. Just left it to do its thing while I did something else. DuncanMck Posted January 4, 2016 Author Share Posted January 4, 2016 have been having a dig around online, (Yes I know I shouldn't) just a couple questions, would the EML prevent the DPF from regenerating on its own but when I run it high revs it will make it regen due to the heat created and secondly can I/should I purchase some dpf cleaner and run that through it to help things along? FezBarratt Posted March 2, 2017 Share Posted March 2, 2017 Did this work, I had the same problem as you. had a new DPF sensor fitted and EML came back on again 3 days later, had it flushed through. been nearly 2 months and the fault code is back, going to put some cleaner in and take it for a drive for an hour tomorrow. Had new dpf and pressure sensor.fitted due to excessively high soot load. Told Ecu it’s had new dpf and reset pressure sensor values. Has 186% soot load Value and light on again after 2 days.
