3 Faults And My Fixes

HI ALL,

IVE USED THIS SITE TO FIX 3 FAULTS OVER THE LAST YEAR AND THOUGHT ABOUT TIME I SHOULD SEND MY FIXES SO OTHERS CAN USE.MY CARS A FOCUS 1.8 ZETEC YREG(2001)

FAULT--,SPEEDO KEPT DYING WHEN DRIVING AND WHEN PRESSED CLUTCH WHILE SPEEDO DIED WOULD CUT OUT.

ANSWER--WAS THE SENSOR(THINK 30QUID ISH) ON THE GEARBOX(TOOK A DAY TO GET IT OUT AFTER MUCH WD40 SOAKING,BE CAREFULL NOT TO SNAP IT)I ENDED UP WITH KNEES ON ENGINE WIGGLEING IT FOR HRS.THE PIN THAT HOLDS IT ON NEEDS SOAKING IN LUBE FOR A WHILE TOO AND I GOT THAT OUT WITH A PAIR OF MOLE GRIPS FROM UNDERNEATH THE CAR WITH THE CAR SAFELY ON AXLE STANDS.THE REATINER SNAPPED OFF BUT THERES NO WAY ITL COME OUT THINK COZ AFTER I PUT IT IN TOOK A BIT OF A TAP AND IM KEEPING EYE ON IT.

FAULT--,CLUTCH LEAKING FROM SLAVE CYLINDER NUT NEAR BLEED NIPPLE ON GEARBOX.

ANSWER--NEEDED PIPE WITH NUT ATTACHED TO IT.(CANT GET NUT SEPARATE)EASY JOB TO FIX JUST BE CAREFULL NOT TO DROP THE CLIPS WHICH HOLD EACH END IN.BLEED THROUGH THE NIPPLE ON THE GEARBOX SLAVE CYLINDER WHEN PIPE FITTED.TOOK AGES TO BLEED (PROB ABOUT 50 PUMPS)AND USED THE DOWN AND UP METHOD WITHSOMEONE IN THE CAB.JUST BE PATIENT AND IT WILL BLEED JUST DO IT SLOWLY TOO.I DIDNT KNOW HOW TO BACK BLEED AND THIS METHODS WORKED FINE WITHOUT HAVING TO DO THAT.

FAULT--,HEATER ONLY WORKING ON SETTING 4

ANSWER--,WAS HEATER RESISTOR IN THE FAN.THE RESISTOR IS BEHIND THE GLOVE BOX(3SCREWWS TO REMOVE AT BTM)AND ORIGINAL RESISTOR WAS A BLUE ONE IN THE SIDE OF THE MOTER.TRUST ME YOU CANT MISS IT.COUPLE OF SMALL EXTENTIONS TO REMOVE A SCREW HOLDING IT IN.IT WAS LITERALLY A 20MIN JOB.THE NEW ONE I GOT WAS A BLACK ONE

I HOPE THIS HELPS PEOPLE AND THEY WERE PRETTY EASY FIXES FOR ME EXCEPT FOR THE SWITCH ON TOP OF THE GEARBOX WHICH TOOK AGES FOR ME TO GET IT OUT.YOU DONT WANNA SNAP IT IN HALF AS ITS A GEARBOX OUT JOBS JUST BE CAREFULL.IF IN DOUBT GET THE SWITCH AND GET SOMEONE TO EITHER DO IT FOR YOU OR EVEN A GARAGE TO DO IT (BUT THEY STILL MIGHT CHARGE YOU IF IT BREAKS.)

IM NOT A MECHANIC BUT WILLING TO HELP ANYONE FOR FREE WITH THE JOBS AT OWNERS RISK TO IT ALL GOING WRONG ETC( AND IM IN GATESHEAD)
