It may just be needing a change of fluid, as it pulls moisture out of the atmosphere, and has a change-interval of 2-3 years. Otherwise, there is an old problem with the short rod linking the pedal to the clutch master cylinder;-- many people have needed new clips to secure the rod in place. P.S., the clutch slave cylinder is down in the bowels of the clutch bell-housing, and can leak, but will top itself up from the reservoir at the main hydraulics reservoir. Check the level. A leak at the slave cylinder is ominous and can knacker the grip of the clutch. That would need a new clutch assy. with slave cylinder and fluid and bleeding. I have almost the same problem, when changing gear the pedal sometimes sticks on the return and suddenly pops up as your driving.its going in for a new master cylinder on the 3rd July (as per senior tech at lookers ford) so will let you know if it cures the problem...glad it under warranty.........
