Temp Troubles

hi all, i'm having trouble with my 52 plate zetec se. just returned from a long journey when the temp suddenly shot up to the red, then came back to normal. this did this quite a few times but the engine was not over heating. ford told me that i should change the temp sensor, then i found out it does'nt have one! they told me to replace cylinder head sensor, which i have done but the problem is still there & seems to be getting worse as it is now doing it on short trips as well. any advise or info? thanks steve.

sounds like the thermostat is starting to stick, cheap and easy job to change, also look at the rad/fan sensor.
