Side Light Wiring

Afternoon my Ford Budies.

My Bros got some blue footwell LED Strips in his peugeot 206, and hes not wanting them anymore.

So i thought i'd have them in my Mk6.

The power supply is a typical cig lighter connection, with a button on top to switch them on and off.

Now i'm wondering, will it be easy to wire them into the sidelights? So it will free up the cig lighter to power my iPhone.

As im also gonna install my own Radio to work with the iPhone! when i can afford to get a new bezzel.

Any help would be ace. Thanks all :o)

the problem with doing that is you will have them on at night when you have your sides on, and not when you really could do with them when you open your doors and so on... was there footwell lighting in any of the older fiesta's??? if you can find that out then you may have an idea about what to do.... if there was then you could just look into the wiring of that, which would probably be off the fuses

or!!! just popped to mind... someone on here connected theirs to the roof light thing, so when that came on so did the footwells... not to sure how that was done but that could be an option

and yet another 'or' you could lift up the trim around the cig lighter and just connect them up to the cable before it gets to the power outlet, so you can use both ;)

Thanks for the reply.

The main reason i mentioned the sidelights, as i think it would look better with them constantly on while im driving.

Tho i'm not sure if it would be a distraction or not while im driving.

I saw the pic walk through of the footwell lights being added to the roof light thing. which is what gave me this idea.

Mine are wired in to the sidelights! It really is the best way, you only need them on when its dark enough to have your sidelights on.

And even if you want them on during the day just pop on the sidelights anyway.

The sidelights are fade in and out so when you unlock your car they will fade on and when you lock it they will fade out. And they will fade on and off when doors are opened etc.

You catch my drift! They work just like the interior light does except they stay on with the side lights.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks Harvey, If you could remember / ask your mate how hes wired them in. That would be great.

As you say, i'd rather have them on a switch and not keep the one that requires me to use the cig lighter. So i guessed the side lights would be a good choice as well i only use them at night and only want the footwell lights on when its dark.

Kinda makes sence really.
